But to the (shanexsan) comment, "he's as good or better than half the field with a month of serious training". Sorry, if he's only trained one month and lines up for a race against this field, he will get hammered. I don't care who he is. Hopefully, he's been doing his due diligence up to this point and will actually come in ready. Just being James Stewart isn't going to cut it in 2017.
Pit Row
James has always ridden for a factory and had access to the best equipment available. Might help possibly explain why he showed up at A1 last year out of shape. He had just gotten a little lazy by that point, figuring he could get by on his skill alone.
This time it's a different story. He is using his own money to finance the majority of this. Seems like a good motivating factor to me for him to at least be in the best physical condition he can. He knows what a gamble this is, both financially and mentally. His reputation is at stake here. That, coupled with the fact that he will be racing against his little brother will hopefully mean he will come out swinging.
Dudes buy bikes, spend a shitload of their own money out of pocket, and show up with poor prep to races all the time. I know I've done it.
Happy to see him back tho definately~!
Personally, I have always wanted to see James on a Honda.....Would have been better 5-6 years ago before the Yamaha detour.....but hey, we'll see how it goes.....With Kenny out and Dungey pretty much guaranteed the title baring any disasters, we need some excitment out there....Reed/ Stew..... Stew/Stew...... should be interesting in a few weeks..... i think he can easily pull a top 5 if he is healthy and feeling 100%...if he happens to be running up front, my guess is DeCoster tells Dungey to let him go.....
We all know James is no Average Joe in terms of talent or resource. What we don't know about him right now is whether he is an Average Joe in terms of professional drive this season.
I do expect him to be ready to go and I will sit and watch and hope he proves people wrong.
Wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong but I've also been right and I like my milk half full, the alternative sucks.
All I'm getting at is that his buying and dumping money into bikes is really no (good) indicator of his level of race-readiness
