How would Webb do on a 250?

Cooper Webb is obviously struggling to come to terms with the 450 indoors. I was wondering how he would fare on a 250 in the 450 class. Isn't this what Freddy Noren is doing? I know this would never happen, but I wonder...

His 450 lap times are around the top 5-7 in the 250 class.

Anyone who says at this point in time that he's faster on the 450 than the 250 is crazy, they have a lot of adjustments they need to make to get him comfortable.

I personally think this is more than Coop just getting used to the weight difference of the bike because he rode the 450 two summers in a row at MXON and he wasn't this ridgid and tight.

I think him and Yamaha will get the little things like weight distribution, gearing and suspension dialed in by the end of the season. If that happens he could sneak into the top 5.

We already know he's gritty and knows how to win, now it's about getting adjusted to the new setup.

No ones ridden the Yamaha 450 well...when's the last time that thing won? Reed does decent but other then that no ones done good. Although I believe Peick got a podium on it and stew won a few times. But other then that nothing

I feel bad for Cooper, he's going nowhere on that bike. When he gets up to speed he'll be battling Reed for 10th at best. I hope Yamaha comes out with a redesign soon.

I agree he would be placing better on the 250 in the 450 class.

IMO, there has to be an undisclosed injury... There is no way Webb is 2 seconds a lap slower than last year just because he is on a 450...

Where were Emig, Tomac, RC, RV, RJ, Wardy, Lusk results their rookie year in the premier class? Webb will figure it out. Not everyone enters like Bradshaw, MC, Dungey, Stew, Canard, and Roczen. I doubt he's like Denny, Huffman and Chicken.

Ohhhhh....... AND its two fucking races in.

Back then everyone rode 250s and raced 125s for years before racing a 250 at pro level.
They may have raced a 250 locally for 5 or more years before turning pro even.

Actually it was the norm because out in the hills alot of cliffs and road gaps were barely clearble or not at all on a 125.

Peick did pretty good on it a couple years ago. I remember him chasing after Dungey in a few heat races.

Brayton did well too. But both taller riders...im honestly baffled right now as to what the problem is. I hope they can get it figured out, because by his standards its embarassing I'm sure.

No you can race a 250f in the 450 class in SX .

Outside of the frame geometry and swingarm what are they not allowed to change/alter to better tailor the rider? I would think being on a factory team they go above and beyond to set the bike up comfortably for the rider and every single one of the factory bikes im sure are weighing in at the bare minimum they are allowed to weigh so I dont get all the "that bike is heavy, its a pig" comments?

Makes me wonder if he is having issues in the whoops which is causing them chopper the front end (pit bits...his fork height vs Reed's) and in the process is making the bike turn slow and causing him to feel sluggish and uncomfortable. Maybe its a chain reaction that's causing a lot of different problems.

I also think they will get it figured out, but maybe that bike just doesn't work as well for pro riders.

Those 450 Yamaha's definitely suit a bigger rider better, and he's not so big.. But that's coming from a stock perspective, and he's riding a factory bike that's been altered to suit him better.
Some bikes behave better than others after those kind of adjustments.
Being a small rider myself, I find the Yamaha's awful to ride and set up. The front end vague feeling and the bucking bronco chassis scares the shit out of me.

If you look at the laptimes of the two classes, the leaders of the 250 class were running average lap times in the 55 second range. Those would have been good enough for top 10 finishes in the 450 class assuming they could get a good start against 450s. I would think Cooper would be in that range of lap times if he was on a 250.

he would get dumped on starts every time but his aggro style would allow him to cut through the class. He would have a hard time getting out of qualifying. In a main he would be ok

Unfortunately, I think if you put him on his old 250, the results wouldn't change. He would just start the races midpack and stay there, as opposed to starting up front and fading back to midpack. Silly

Well, he's never looked super great in whoops, even on the 250F. Last year, there were times where he was much faster than Christian Craig everywhere else on the track, then Craig would quickly make up the difference for the whole rest of the track in the whoops.

In the 450s, there's a dozen guys who can ride the whoops at Craig's level or better.
