Roczen is a dream for our industry --- he's going to open NEW big doors. Honda was smart ---- look at all the cross marketing.
He's bringing back personality and individualism, which is far more than most riders have dared to do since the 90's. But it won't result in any mainstream breakthrough or growth in any meaningful way. The pull just isn't there to the casual sports fan, there's no real drama or captivation like fighting or other major sports where a new personality creates a wave.

I'm still a firm believer in that the racing would be better with 2t

Best video I've seen in years. Listen to the big choice version of disconnected. In the first minute of the Audio I swear it sounds like the producer says K-Roc

Fuck yes.

Slower. Steeper. Shorter. More explosive bikes. Mistakes. More passes. More opportunities to dive inside. Way better to watch, even if MC had a 15 second lead like Ken did this weekend.

Not much has changed since the old days. Except the bikes and then track design to suite. The way 4 strokes put power down to the ground has made everyone ride at relatively the same level, with the guys whose training, set up or natural talent are a cut above setting themselves apart. I don't know how we could change things to bring back some of the old flair and excitement, but the easiest thing would be track design.

Yes it will be more dangerous and there will be more injuries as as result, but these tracks are just no challenge ( relatively speaking. ) for the top riders, More aggressive transitions and complicated rhythms, wicked early to mid 2000's style whoops and for the love of everything moto, bring back bowl turns to give these guys real line choices and places to pass in cornering. . .

I thought it was awesome. He didn't really do anything crazy.

That helmet could have been a lot cooler though without all that red bull business

Easiest would be to make the 250s the premier class. The tracks could go up from there.

99% of the time has better racing, from 1st to 20th.

450s are like 500s for SX and boring as fuck to watch compared.

I think Roczen has a chance to bring some mainstream interest to the sort with the help of the Honda marketing Dept, that suit and the prefessional look as well as the car the new NSX could lead to some commercials and mainstream air time and possibly more ESPN/ sports center coverage! This new/old video is nice!

This is one of the coolest things ever. Finally someone breaks the mold and monotony to have some FUN.
Totally agree!

I hate those interviews with "get the job done"!

"Fun" is what he was looking for, now he got it.
Dangerous combination.

That was awesome! Hats off to all those involved. Great video. It again confirms that MC is the King.

Crazy idea, what if Honda ran a limited edition run of that bike with modern suspension and at a good price point, I would buy one.

On a sidenote anyone notice how strikingly similar the forks on the actual MC bike are to production 47mm Showa Twin Chamber forks? I always wondered whmen we the general public received the trickle down of factory level suspension from thos days amd it appears to be about 3-5 years.

That was an incredible video and if Hart watched it he may have gotten back at least 4:25 of his 13 minutes he and many of us would like back for the atrocity that was Doonies 3 haha
Lars said on the pulp show that the forks were actually 45mm.

All this marketing and cool shit isn't Honda. It's Fox. But I think Honda is in Fox's ear.

Brings back lots of memories. Laughed my ass off watching Ken trying to start it. Gotta put some leg into it son! Also got a chuckle out of the high rise pants. It's the opposite for me nowadays, feels like my junk is barely covered with the new stuff.

How much of that bike was factory? They said it was a MC practice bike that was almost what he raced. Sounded more stock than factory. That could be just the way the mics picked it up though.

Eli's bike looked pretty good compared to last year! I don't think his issue was fading from fighting the bike or setup the whole race, something else is going on... He had some serious work done to his shoulders, he might just never be the same or it might be mental from stress or expectation...
watch him closely,

He is fighting the bike and trying to muscle it around. The kawi was ridden best by RV2, kinda like a two stroke steered with the rear end.

Tomac was better on a bike that turned with less input.

Idk how long his contract is but if i was him i would shop a different team, like KTM, husky suzuki

Perris?
Perris it is!

...I wish I was fast as hell but the bike sure is.

Quick history - the 96' CR250 has a fantastic motor. Not too much low end grunt but it absolutely rips your arms off in the higher RPM range. 96' was also the last year of the steel framed Honda's. In 97' they switched to aluminum frame and dealt with a myriad of stiffness and compliance issues. Interestingly enough, MC ran a 93' frame through 96' because he felt the 96' frame was too stiff. For those of you talking suspension, 96' was the first year to feature a rear shock with both high and low speed compression damping. The rear shock is not much different than a modern bike's setup. The forks, however, were a direct copy of the fantastic 95' KX250 forks, but Honda figured out a way to ruin them by messing with spring/valving. These forks kind of blow. A lot of guys throw on late model twin chamber forks to bring the bike current. I'm sure MC had some works internals in there, softening up the first 1/3 of travel. The bike turns on a dime, weighs about #220, and has been Honda reliable since I got it 15 or so years ago.

Doubt I'll ever sell this thing, but if I do I'm guessing now would be a good time.

Not impressed. Would have been big hit in 1980.
