How many pages before we get some posts from the riders or teams involved?
It usually doesn't take this long.

Karma for defending his kid? Maybe keep the comments to what you actually know. The idiocy of the internet is people read an article and think they know the facts............... I know both parties and the history behind the incident. I have no connection to either party, though..........................

I think the point here is that, with a sport like this where it's all on the individual and it all comes down to results, you are measured by how well you do. It's always been this way. If you can't hang, play a team sport.

BUT

Most of us, it sounds like, came from an era where how you won still mattered even more than having won. There is a lot that a young boy or girl can learn from this sport. Hard work, determination, perseverance, that nothing in life is easy, how to be mentally tough. But all of that goes out the window if you learn to care more about winning than how you win.

^^this

Anymore it's a win by any means necessary and screw morality.

I know this is a bit off topic (more along the lines of the PIR incident), but I see it time and time again where parents try to live their life through their kids. It is always the worst when the family finances are literally dedicated to the kid's sport.

For some reason I always remember this red headed kid who rode an old beat up CR85 at Air Sarival way back when it was open here in AZ. His dad looked like typical trailer trash (he probably was) and would sit there and yell at him all day. The kid was horrible at riding and would probably get lapped in beginner class, but man I felt bad for him. Saw numerous "moto dads" like this throughout the years. Sometimes you can't help but want to tell their parents to take a chill pill or two.
Every time my son raced, I was simply ecstatic when he came around each lap uninjured........

If it's down to punting the guy in front of you into the cheap seats to gain a spot.....Bye Bye
Second place is still the first loser, even though they give out participation trophies for everyone.

I don't even get how something like that could pop in to someones mind. He did, on purpose, launch his bike into people who wasn't even racing, without protection? If you make that decision something is seriously wrong with you
Yep, and he should go to Juvy, (kid jail).

"Launching bikes isn't anything new"

Boy if I did that my dad woulda put me in a box six feet under, who the hell raised you?
who the hell raised me? uh pretty sure I'm not the kid launching a bike at anyone....when I was a kid I could barley wheelie my CT70, and now I'm the who hold my line so the fast guys can pass me, I do get a bit pissed when a fast guy thinks he needs to block pass me...as he LAPS meSmile

regardless what you think, it's NOT new...

Taking out a rider because you're not good enough to pass him is the ultimate participation trophy.

Not that it's acceptable either way, but there's a huge difference between ghosting your bike at another rider wearing safety gear (RV vs JLaw, MXKied vs LaRocco) and a crowd of people. I was at Washougal years ago when a young woman got cleaned off the fence next to the finish line when a rider lost it in the whoops...it was horrible in every sense of the word and a true accident. To do something like that on purpose is unthinkable.

Couple things.

1. As long as motocross is as expensive as it is, there will always be parents out there who verbally, and physically beat the shit out of there kids for a bad moto. That is how it's been and likely how it's always going to be....There are a handful of guys lining up for Anaheim 1 that I know for a fact knew what the back of their dads hand felt like.

2. Assuming the report is accurate that a kid ghost rode a bike into a group of people, am I the only one who had a dad that would have sold everything moto related we owned and never took me close to a track again?
I can remember passing a kid in the last corner of a race, maybe 10-11 years old, and I made fun of him. My pops found out, and that was it for me for a solid month. No riding, no racing, no friends, no anything....I can't even fathom the ass-whooping I would have had coming for ghost-riding a bike into a group of spectators.

Same here. I remembera when I was on minis and we saw a spoiled kid kicking the swingarm of his bike because he was pissed about something. My dad told me that If he ever saw me doing something like that I would be done riding or racing as long as he was paying. I alwayd learned to respect the people and equipment involved in this sport,

I remember once when I watched my brother throw his bike on the ground after his moto. My dad walked over and stomped on it till the radiator was smashed flat. He said, "yeah, I feel better now too" and walked away. Needless my brother didn't have a bike for moto 2, he bought a radiator for it when he had his own money (meaning he didn't ride for a couple of weeks), and learned a valuable lesson.

To be fair, Dad warned us before about acting like that. I have had very few moments myself when my temper got the best of me. I can understand how it happens but if you can't control it maybe you shouldn't be in the situation to begin with either. IDK, racing is a high adrenaline sport that sometimes sets the stage for crap like this.

This thread went way offtopic.

Are there any consequences known yet? I'm curious what happened to the involved riders.

Thanks. There is more to the story than gets presented on the web but no matter what two young men don't have their fathers any more regardless of fault. Neither party expected this outcome...............

Kawasaki? In the whoop section? If so, that was me unfortunately. Bike hit the fence, and up and over.
One of my worst days racing.

I'm going with, "these events are so hyped up that the kids over react to both winning, broken bikes and take outs, both giving and taking. So they freak out over a bad result, thinking that the week is now wasted cause they have no chance of podium, factory ride and millions...."

Oh and lastly......they are kids, doing dumb stuff....launching bikes isn't anything new, although into a crowd may be a new twistSmile
I think the guy died before he was supposed to go to jail.

Man...idk probabaly a good 10 years ago. Air Sarival wasn't open all that long so it would have been a shorter time period. I never saw that kid at any other track.

Both riders have been given a DQ from the Supercross event. Both will be racing MX. The original Facebook post I read talked about police being involved, but I don't know of any criminal proceedings.
