And the riders talk about the mistakes they make now.

Just imagine the bitching if the riders couldn't get a clean run through the whoops.

Just look at the talent on display in that race... and the fucking amount of mistakes per lap, and the racing they produced.

450cc indeed.

Imagine if they built a track like that now the riders would be complaining like mad. Personally I prefer it now but I'm a young gun. Although I do agree they should have a 2 stroke class at superross

I love that era. I have tons of vhs footage from 95 to the early 2000s and watch during my workouts.

Completely different? Yes.

More entertaining? Perhaps.

Better? No way of ever knowing.

Exactly. It's all a matter of perspective. I first got interested in MX/SX in the early 80s so I still enjoy watching races from that era too. It gives you a feeling of nostalgia, but there have been both boring and great races in all eras. McGrath certainly provided many boring main events throughout the 90s. Whether the tracks were better or worse is also a matter of opinion.

just think of the training those guys do vs the training most guys do today. Someone thats 5-10 place guy these days would have went out and racked up wins.

That being said, everyone had so much personality back then. The Yamaha bikes looked way better back then

I remember getting up at 430am before my parents were up to go downstairs and watch those races on ESPN. Art eckman was the best. Just have to make sure you didn't accidentally read cyclenews and spoil the race haha

I love each era and have revolved my life around moto my entire life but the 80s and 90s era was where it really got popular because of the pure excitement of the rough tracks and the extra charisma of the riders. It was a wild time and no one and i mean no one got offended by anything so really anything goes back then. It was crazy. Plus the two strokes and rough tracks made it more of a tooth and nail battlefield as opposed to a loud ballet of today and todays more pc mentality. Still great now but if you weren't around then it is probably better that you don't believe it. The truth could get you in trouble somehow these days. Lol

I've been racing, riding moto since the late 70s and you are right in my eyes. The 80's and 90's (minus Mcgrath domination) were a great time to be around moto. Nothing at all really like today.....used to be if you stepped a little out of line you just got a slap on the wrist......now its jail time.....and everyones offended now at something. People now act nothing like they did in the 80's and 90's. Most snowflakes now can't wait to tell the world how offended they were and are actively looking for a "safe space"......jesus save us......

I'll agree with you on people being too easily offended in today's society. Everyone having to act all politically correct in what they do and say.

As far as jail time verses a slap on the wrist, it depends on what "stepping a little out of line" means.

You can't take the dominant racers into the equation, because that's not a product of the system, it's the sport itself. It's so damn hard that the very top guys get on a role, and the injuries and confidence affects the others.

BUT. Didn't matter who you were watching back then, they had to ride the bike harder to do so much more. They're so much more animated. There are so many more mistakes. It's not uncommon to see half the field now do 20 perfect laps... back then it might have been one. Maybe.

No..they just need equal displacement for all bikes. That would insure plenty of two strokes on the professional motocross lineup.

I disagree..Most guys today find racing two strokes totally exhausting.
