I was watching him yesterday at Pala, I think JH is awesome, very technical rider so a good pick for the Straight Rhythm event. But that bike looked very slow and the noise is comical.

I have had R/C cars for about 10 years now. My first one was a nitro and and I found I was constantly tuning it. I fixed it way more than I ever drove it. As soon as lipo batteries and brushless motors came out I knew gas engines were on their way out. Far superior performance and way less maintenance! There is so much room for improvement on electric bikes! 10 years from now they will have power to weights ratios and ranges that will be amazing!

I can't wait for them to be rider less and madskills guys get the contracts they deserve in supercross.

My uncle works at Krispy Kreme and his main customer is in talks with Feld and the FIM for very first RRU (Riderless RIders Union.)

Can't wait to see it!! If Hill makes it through without any mechanical failures, there are going to be a lot of pre orders on their site the next day!! They are on to a good thing, still think the price needs to come way down, but I hope they got all the bugs worked out and don't pull a Cannondale. They rushed a few pro riders to compete in the outdoor nationals and I believe they DNF'ed every single race. I would have to think it would be tough racing next to a gas bike drowning out the sound of your electric.

They've got a couple endurcross's under their belt...(I think one win-maybe two-in the Vet class). Hopefully this will be a success for them.

In before the rush.

Soon as everyone owns one: Electric Bikes suck. Bring on the Four Strokes. Damn Quiet bikes. Can't hear them coming.

You really cant mod an electric motor. Electric motors already average about 98 percent efficiency at creating power compared to an ICE which averages at about 25 percent efficiency, probably lower for a race engine. The only real avenues for performance improvement of an electric motor is the cooling to run a higher continuous output, different winding's optimized for the number of motor poles and the voltage you want to run, and using rare earth metals for better magnet densities.

All the power increases for electrics will come through battery improvements.
For straight rythm they could pull out a few battery cells and reduce the weight.
But otherwise you can still go after different electric motors and power controller paramters. Its an electrical engineers game though...

Wonder how long it will be before we see one in a supercross race ? Not sure how long the battery will run on the bike ?

2016 250f average numbers (stock):
HP: 40.77
Torque: 19.97
Weight: 223.5 lbs

Alta numbers:
HP: 40
Torque: 36
Weight: 251 lbs

Tough to say on a course like this. Though I feel like he'll have a disadvantage against the factory bikes. If it were stock bikes it'd be a pretty close race I think!
Just fyi... You cant compare those numbers... Well, you can, but the power delivery is sooo much different...

Two strokes and four strokes deliver the power way differently too, yet people compare them.

Besides it was just to give everyone an idea of where the bike sits right now.

How can it be allowed to race? It's not homogenized? Blink

Thanks for posting those numbers...for some reason I would have thought the e-bike would have been lighter than that.
Think of the weight distribution, the battery cells would be all down the bottom. No fuel tank, No intake/injector/manifold.

That 251lb's might feel like 200lb's when riding. All about weight distribution.

I presume this will race with the 250F's? It's got 450 torque! and it would be from standstill. Perfect for boosting a big quad Smile

Im skeptical. Maybe they can program it to feel like a two stroke. What happens when a motor on one of these goes, four stroke failures are catastrophic enough. My prediction would be that it could also shrink the sport because the average person might not be able to afford to fix a failure.

the average person can't afford to fix a 4-stroke either lol

I may be wrong but with a brushless designs, the only real thing to wear out (other than an electrical fire from short circuit) are the bearings.....not much high wear items in there I don't think....

Why would you take all the inherent advantages of using an eletric motor and fuck it all up so it feels like a 2 stroke?

I love smokers, but damn, that's just dumb.

go look at the specs of the bike.... major maintenance schedules are at 1000 hours.... a 4 stroke will be scrap by then.
