Why is it when a rider doesn't win on a Yamaha, everyone is quick to jump that Yamaha's suck and so and so is better off on a ______. Yet when the rider goes to another brand, their results are the same? Stewart is the latest example of blaming the Yamaha but in reality he just didn't have it anymore.

Barcia needs teaching the basics of inertia .. in a classroom. Spin a push bike wheel and get him to hold it. If he still doesnt get it, give the money to Nicoletti.

What you're describing isn't inertia but gyroscopic effect...

Gyroscopic effect is called moment of inertia

I think a big thing will be the potential difference on starts.

Sure JGR will be able to pull horsepower out of the bike, but we all know the Yamaha rips, it has consistently pulled a lot of holeys...

AND combine that with Barcia and Phil kinda being two guys who typically are a little dependant on their start... ie do well if they start well, don't if they don't... Not sure either has been known to rip through the pack. It could be an issue.

What you think they are gonna use electric motors off the start line?

Well if RV or RD either had not raced, or either was on a yamaha, I bet it would be a whole lot different.

I would be curious to see how they approach this year with this new bike. Isn't Suzuki going to revamp the bike in 2018?

So they will have R&D on this version, then more when the new bike comes out? I foresee the same issues that they had on the "new" Yamaha.

I'm excited to see the switch, but JGR will try to hard to reinvent the wheel again.

Also, listening to Pulp the other day I was surprised to hear from Christian Craig that they don't start out with a bone stock bike. I suppose 250s are so doggy it is necessary to build up the motor. The factories spend millions and have engineers spending endless hours perfecting every aspect of those bikes. I can't imagine a single race team can spend the time or money that a factory has on R&D.

I could be wrong.

I think both the Suzi and Yami will be new models in 2018 so JGR will have their work cut out for them either way, maybe just a little more with the Suzuki. I would think that to keep consistency and transfer of knowledge from one bike to the other that if they had a 2nd team JGR would want to stay on the same platform with both teams. Seems like they'd be spreading themselves thin with two different manufacturers where things learned by one team can't really apply to help the other.

I wonder if Yamaha pulled their support or decided to offer less support since they have their own team now. Maybe it's not simply JGR decided they were sick of working with the YZ450Fs but they could receive more support from Suzuki. I believe JGR has had some success with the Yamahas even though they haven't got a championship. Not many teams have had championships in the past 6 years in the 450 classes.

JGR sure has been flooding their Instagram today with pictures of Yamaha this and Yamaha that. Anyone else noticed this? So what's the point of broadcasting all the blue love if they are changing? Or is it just a cover...

Not quite. When you try to rotate the axis of revolution of a spinning mass about a different axis than that of rotation, you get a reactionary moment at 90 degrees. The greater the angular momentum of the spinning mass, the more the gyroscopic reaction. They are related, but not the same thing. A 450 has a lot more inertia in the motor components, which makes it harder to lay the bike down and bring it back up without the resultant gyroscopic forces impacting handling. Running the motor at lower RPM, reduces the angular momentum (L=iw), and reduces the gyroscopic reaction moment. Gyroscopic reaction moments also make whips and scrubs possible. Science.

Where did the Yoshimura mechanics and crew go? Did RCH pick them up? If not, seems like they would be a useful resource to JGR. Maybe that helps fill in some gaps for a second team?

Wasn't there a conflict for JGR with Toyota and Suzuki sponsorship because they were competitors?

SUSZUKI doesn't sell cars in the U.S. So no conflict.

I thought it was more or less the spinning inertia effect of the flywheel on both 2 strokes and 4 strokes that resisted change in movement i.e. Laying the bike over and with a 4 stroke like the yamaha you also have the spinning inertia of BOTH cams adding to the flywheel effect at high rpm's since 4 strokes especially Barcias bikes are run at much higher rpm than a 2 stroke would ever reach. Another thing about Barcias style was woefully apparent when he was on 250's is seeing him rev the bike well beyond the peak hp and torque curve and shifting WAY too late thus running out of steam and not fully maximizing peak hp and torque.

Seat bouncing is all about the spinning Inertia of the seat foam V the weight of arse doing the bouncing combined by the shock spring rate and total bike velocity at the time of take off, divided by the speed at the base of the jump face.

Its pretty simple when you break it down to the basics.

Nobody has won a SX main on a YZF450 since Stewart at Daytona 2012.
Barcia has won a couple of times outdoors but the YZF has not done that great.
