Resurgence of pitbikes

Just sold my Pitster Pro LXR155R.

Here's a shot of my backyard pitbike track. Don't have any other photos on my iPad or I would post them for you guys.

Pitbikes are what got me back into the sport so they have a special place in my heart. Long story short, I've had just about every pitbike and I think the most fun variant is the klx140 with a kx85 front end on it. It has enough room to throw around in the corners, is extremely stable (partially because it weighs over 200 lbs) and is slow enough to be able to to ride totally wide open.

^^^Can't beat the 140 IMO. Most fun bike I've ever ridden (Thanks for introducing this bike to Blake, Chopper! Lol). I've got around $500 in mods to this one (HD springs, 170 bore, and pipe), and I love the thing. I race mine at AX, MX, and XC races, I also ride it on just typical big bike tracks, and it holds up to all the abuse I throw at it. It is pretty heavy, and slow, so it takes a little work, and ringing it's neck to do everything, but isn't that what's fun about pitbikes? Haha

Hey! Nice Rupp! My very first minibike was a Rupp just like that one. My Dad made a custom chrome pipe for it too. I loved that thing. Glad to see someone still has one after all these years. Torque converter right?

Thank You vet!

Nice 140! What carb are you running? I've been reading about people using the carb from a kx65 on these engines and they say it makes a huge difference with a stock motor.
Also, a front fender from a new kx85 is almost a direct bolt on and matches the angular lines of our bikes a lot better than the OEM duckbill fender. It's a great $20 cosmetic mod!

I'm still running the stocker. I'm tossing around the idea of throwing a PWK28 on it though. I had a custom intake made to run that carb on my mod 140, but since I won't be using that setup on it anymore, I figured I'd try slapping it on this bike. Yeah, I always hated the look of the stock fender, I had the restyled KX85 fender on my mod, but it's grown on me now lol

Cokeham23, what pipe are you running and do you like it? I'm currently running the stock exhaust with the baffle removed from the silencer.

It's a Norifumi Monster Carbon, it's from Indonesia. I don't have any complaints with it, it's held up good, and seems to be on par with the FMF I was running on my other bike. You do have to shorten the can about 1-2 inches for it to fit, since the pipe is made for the KLX150 (overseas version of the 140), and it has a slightly different frame.

I just bought a Piranha 140r Limited last weekend with the 12"/14" wheels. I've already crashed and broke some fingers Grinning

Last year my son's interest in bikes fell off when he started high school. His focus turned to football and he didn't want to go ride anymore. So, I decided to sell our 125's and get another pitbike. That way I could simply ride on our backyard pitbike track anytime I felt like it. I bought a basically brand new KLX140L (the big wheel version) and did a few easy mods to create the ultimate pitbike (IMO anyway). I bolted on a set of KX85/KX100 forks, bar risers and flipped the rear linkage upside down (which raises the rear). I also did the basic power upgrades for any playbike (uncorked the exhaust and intake and rejet the carb). Nothing like coming home from work and spinning a few laps whenever I feel like it!

Nice job Wandell,

I like the comment about the linkage too. Maybe I need to get one of these bikes. Sounds like fun. I have the CRF150f, but with all the bells and whistles. Your bike is light years lighter though. Very cool.

Man I love it. Feels a lot more fast and big bike-ish compared to my buddies built klx110/140

I'm bummed I can't ride it for 6 weeks.

Fixed up this thing when our kids were small. My son

and my buddy out at Ocotillo. A wise man once said, "The smaller the wheels, the more dangerous it is" Laughing

Now we've graduated to a TTR 110 with a pipe, a manual clutch kit, BBR fat guy springs and a taller seat. Can't find a pic of that one at the moment

i own a pitster pro x5 155 and x2 140. much preferred the 140 until i finally got the jetting right on the 155. will be upgrading to the lxr 170 at some point.

i ride bmx so the form factor has always been compelling.

i've also built a super fun track on a few acres that i ride daily and never tire of, whereas i get on a real bike and am across the whole yard in a few seconds. would just be unrealistic to have properly sized jumps.

opted for the pitsters because 1. i'm 6'2 & 240 lbs, so needing something taller & with better suspension 2. i want a clutch.

Cool stuff in this thread. Have had some of the most fun riding pitbikes. Still have a fun 110. But has anyone, anywhere seen an actual resurgence in pit-bikes? Above and beyond the day to day attention of the posters in this thread.

Honestly, not calling anyones baby ugly, just surprised.

Anyone have a stock exhaust for a KLX/DRZ110 for sale? Please PM me if you have one. I can pay via paypal.
I cut the leash off my 2.5 year old son's PW50 this week and he seems to be addicted to dirtbikes.
Rides until MOM makes him quit(even with his first blisters he wasn't happy about parking the bike).... and wants me to ride with him on the 110.
I dont want to piss my neighbors off with the 2 Bros system on the bike.
Thanks

I appreciate all that crazy ass DOHC 150 4-speed billet shit. But nothing was more fun than when we all got xr50s that were bone stock. No bars, nothin. When the 88 kits and big suspension and klx110s came along it was still sick but the laughs on those stockers were all time.
