J-Mart over-trained?

Surprised no one has said anything on this from Mathes http://racerxonline.com/2016/07/06/observations-redbud-

4 1 Jeremy Martin Millville, MN Yamaha YZ 250F 4 4- I know he’s got two moto wins, but this week J-Mart crashed in a moto again and was passed by his brother. The 4-4 score is not something you should be suicidal about, but again, he wasn’t his usual JEREMY MARTIN self. He’s also 36 points down to Webb and breaking news: the gap is growing. He’s putting on a brave face and being professional about everything but from what I hear behind the scenes, he’s worn out and tired from some intensive training with Johnny O’Mara before they parted ways. He’s tried to rest and do nothing but that’s not working so well either. Whatever it is, he’s not the same guy we’ve seen the last two summers.

Or did I miss a ten-pager on it? Everyone has been talking about some mystery illness or injury. Is it possible he just overdid things training and is exhausted?

Somewhere someones saying he's just a lazy pussy.

Pretty easy to see He does not race with the same intensity as He was before.

If he was leaving my team at the end of the year, and another team member was capable of winning the title, I know who would get a faster bike.. Anyone remember Mike Brown having pro circuit do his crf engines, until he was beating them? Also seems strange that cooper has not seemed as cocky for winning..

Seems likely since Alex said that's what happened to him on Johnny O's program indoors this year. Alex went to Swanepoel and he started kicking ass. J-Mart moved later to Swane and appears to be in the same situation now that Alex was for SX this year.

The mystery illness and overtraining are often linked: overtraining can lead to EBV but Matthes also said that he tested negative for that. But it doesn't mean that he doesn't have some other chronic infection that is keeping him from performing at his max.

Well I know you'd make a horrible team manager... What do you do if Cooper gets hurt and you've been giving Jeremy crap bikes so he's not in the hunt? You lose the title... They want to win the title, no matter which rider on the team accomplishes it.

Mike Brown situation was different... Mike was using PC engines and racing against the PC boys...

Didn't PC come back and charge Brown like 30k for their motor work for the season?

I don't mean to sidetrack this thread but can you elaborate on the Mike Brown story. So this was after his PC career and he was riding well on Honda's? They took his engines away or something because he was their competition?

The story goes that as he got more competitive and started beating PC riders his bike got slower and slower.....

Brownie went 2,3,2,1, to 7, 6 ,7. faded under pressure? ya right. From Racerx vault-

"Langston would try to race through the pain each week, but his results were sporadic. Other contenders would win races here and there, but an unlikely points leader emerged: 2001 125 Champion Mike Brown. Brown was supposed to race in Europe for the ’05 season, but his deal collapsed, so he put together his own privateer Honda effort in the U.S. and found himself leading the points by mid season. Brown was looking to become the first privateer to ever win an AMA National Motocross Championship, but for some reason, he began to falter at mid season. Conspiracy theorists say that Pro Circuit, who was building Brown’s engines, was purposely giving him bad stuff to help their own team riders catch him in points. Others said Brown was cracking under pressure. Whatever the reason, he faded out of contention."

So both Martin brothers have engine problems, but nobody else?

Sidetrack alert*
Once they (Brownie and his dad) got a sense the bikes were under performing, they cracked one open (they werent allowed to do so, per agreement) and found essentially stock internals, is the story I got from a friend of his? They were pissed! As for the $30k, that isn't unheard of, as all of those privateer or satellite teams pay for services and engine and/or suspension lease programs from various suppliers, if they don't do it in house. Was similar, but on a different scale, when Geico/FC and TLD ran PCR pipes/engines/suspension.

Here's to J-Mart getting back up to his usual, ass kicking speed!

Double-sidetrack alert: Don't forget the part about him being blackballed off the Des Nations team also after they sandbagged his engines.

And not even mentioning the fact that both Webb and Martin(s) are leaving this year, so either way no #1 bike for Star next year.

Wasn't he training with O'Mara when he won last year? So he leaves him, tired now and not winning but this is O'Mara's fault? Umm how does that add up?

Obviously, not everyone's training program is going to be the same. A good trainer will adjust the program accordingly for each rider. Who really knows what went down between them but for whatever reason he left the O'Show program in the middle of the year.

I would think there is a stage of exhaustion one can reach that is still short of EBV. Maybe someone who has experience as a trainer here can shed some light on it. Can one still race each round but recover in the middle of the outdoor season?

If it's ebv no way he recovers while still racing.

getting sick long term like that is a strange thing to have happen, it just never seems to go away. he needs to not ride during the week if he is actually sick, and rest as much as possible if he wants to finish the outdoors(if he does have ebv) if you try to push through something like that, then your toast.

Maybe the guys ahead of him are riding faster.

Strange theory i know, just a hunch!

I think you might be on to something here.

Martin is getting passed early on in the races when his energy level should be up. And is running fast lap times at the end of the race when he should be shot. The virus gag has been used up in this sport.

Martin and his fans need to enjoy his finishes right now. The 450 class is going to be a disaster for him.

He doesn't seem anywhere as aggressive on the track as he did last year. Looks like him and Alex switched places! Be nice to see Star go 1 2 3 for the season!

Add the fact that ever motor is built identically with no names on them.

Yes, mitch sent him a 30k bill for motors that he built later and Mike told him to F off. Mike said after round 4 his motors wouldn't get out of their own way.

I have a host of 20 and 30 somethings that work for me and they miss my dropped reference all the time. I feel so old and crusty. Dropping Fletch or Caddyshack lines just doesn't work for the kids.

Ya I have no idea what that goes to. Lol.

I think he needs to just find his groove and go back to having fun. Its almost like some of these guys get so big, famous, trained, etc that they stop having fun.
