Christophe Pourcel, Gajser and Stewart

A good and old story but pretty good still... By Pingree in Racer X a few years ago! I have high hopes that 2017 will be a good year for him!

i was sitting with Mitch watching practice and Pourcel rolled by, standing up and going at half-speed. He had been doing that all day and for the past two months according to those who have seen him. Mitch offered this:

"He used to do that with me all the time. One day we were out here testing at Glen Helen and he just wouldn't put a lap together. He said the bike was no good and the track was no good—he was really frustrated. At the very end of the day we hadn't gotten far with Pourcel because he wouldn't ride hard and he just kept saying the track was stupid and wasn't like anything we would race on. I told him we just needed him to try some clamps and tell us if they were bad, good or no different. All I wanted was two good laps from him. He said, "Just two laps?" I told him that was all I wanted. Just give us something to leave here feeling good about. So he pulled on his helmet and went out but he wasn't happy about it. At that point Chad Reed, who was riding for Suzuki, had the quickest lap time of the day. Pourcel went out and just dropped the hammer and beat it by two seconds. All the guys on the team were high-fiving and pumped. When he came in I told him that was awesome and told him his lap time. He pulled his helmet off and said, "What, did you think I wasn't good?" That's just the way he is. He is so talented he can turn it on and be the fastest guy out there any time he really wants to."

IMO Hansen. We know Bubba and Pourcel both train hard. Didn't Hansen say that last year was his first on a proper training program? Pretty impressive that he almost won a SX championship without taking his training seriously at all. Plus his style and how he throws the bike around is incredible.

Dungey. Never gets hurt because he's the most comfortable going super fast. James gets hurt all the time because he pushes over his limit, dungey doesn't.

Stewart has to be one of the best... I can't believe no one has mentioned McGrath! Didn't start racing MX until later than most and dominated Supercross like no one else IMO!

No way to know unless you put them on identical stock bikes off the shelf with only suspension adjustments without any parts replacements

RF461 is impressive considering he has only raced moto since '11, Hanson and Pourcel are both good ones to bring up. Dare I say Stroupe may be able to be included in this. If you have read his Racer X story it's unbelievable he could ride period with what he has gone through.

Currently active racers? Probably James Stewart. However all of the years and injuries are catching up to him at an incredible rate.
All time most talented? Lechien and Pastrana are the two names that pop into my mind.

In all honesty, I don't think Dungey's talent is what you would call "natural". He works his ass off, and spends a TON of prep time to get where he is. A guy like Pourcel can come out and set just as fast of a lap as Dungey can without training like Dungey does. Dungey races at the pace he's comfortable with. If that's not enough, he works VERY hard to pick up the pace through practice.

His ability to not get injured is definitely one of a kind though.

if Febvre is so talented , how come his MX2 results dont match his talent ?? i think if youre that talented you should perform on any bike

James is a natural talent , i think Cooper is too as we will see when he is on a big bike and kicks ass

Josh Grant. endless style, hardly trains it seems, crazy speed. hes bested the best in the world on many occasions. 35 min battle with reed in 09 while he was on JGR at Millville, A1 with JGR, mxgp at glen helen last year. dude has days when hes on and it unbeatable

I was at Budd's Creek in 2003 for his last to first moto and from that day forward I have been of the opinion that James Stewart is the most naturally talented rider that's ever tried. The things he did on his KX125 left me astounded.

2011 first year racing motocross, wins emx250 title. 2014 in mx2 3rd overall. 2015 rookie year in MXGP world champion.

I go with Roczen,JMB and Stewart.I think Roczen and JMB are the most talented riders from europe.They combine(d) great style and efficiency.Stewart is probably the most skilled rider in history.Smile

The Dogger has more raw talent in his right thumb than most of the current riders have today. Having gone out on the town with Ronnie the night before a national, having him drink you under the table and then seeing him in the pits the next day ready to go while your head is screaming "Please for god's sake nobody start up there bike" will make you a believer.



I seriously doubt that KRoc, RD, ET or any of the other top riders could go out on an all night bender and battle for the overall the next morning.
