I would rather have a F1 style points now where they make some races more points than others, I hate that as well but at least you get points for every race. Our SX guys have more in common to F1 than NASCAR.. After all F1 drivers are the best in the world, not NASCAR. Just like the riders racing SX are the best SX riders in the world. Although F1 has its issues I would rather our sport copy them.

F1 is pretty much unwatchable anymore. You talk about freight training with zero passing. At least NASCAR has made their series competitive. F1 has 2-3 different winners per season, much like SX. That is why they are looking for change.

And BTW many great Open wheel drivers have been complete failures in NASCAR so your assumption that F1 has the best drivers is completely false.

I do, and I have watched every F1 race ever since they have been televised. That does not mean it is perfect. It has become THEE most predictable sport on earth.....with SX a close second. Each season produces a dominant team and those two team drivers trade off poles/wins all season long. Then they make a rule change and it is the next teams turn.

Montoya got his ass handed to him in NASCAR so I am not too sure about them being anymore talented than Nascar or Indy car drivers. I also have no doubt that a guy like Jeff Gordon or Jimmy Johnson could adapt and be fantastic F1 drivers. There is no need for JJ to go to Europe when he can bank 22 mil a year and stay at home. Driving in circles at the top level is not as easy as it looks. Ask RC, Pastrana or McGrath.....they never made it out of the minors

CAUTION LAPS OR RED FLAG LAPS ARE LAME UNLESS THERE IS A LEGITIMATE REASON

LETS RACE FOR 4 HRS LONG. THEN IN THE LAST 2 LAPS WE'LL DO A RED FLAG RESTART SO WE ELIMINATE THE GAPS.

AGAIN Monster Cup i Think has had the best event program

just copy them too easy.

450s 3 motos 10 laps.

250s (replacing the all star am class) 3 motos 10 laps(full national series)

125s (instead of superminis) 3 motos 6 laps (regional pro am series, support class, no title winners, no defending a title, if qualified for 450's in last year ineligible, if qualified for 250 class ineligible during same year, NO AGE LIMIT)

mornings are used for practice

9 races that mean something and itll take up just as much time. its more fair to riders as its only the fastest qualifiers that make it. the track also stays in better condition as the 450's and 250's have less time on the track to break it down

Why can't they do something like this?

11 Rounds
1 450 championship
1 250 championship

Winner wins
Most points is champion

And more time to prepare for the outdoors.

If the milk is spoiled before it's spilled you throw it out and don't worry about spilling it. Not crying, just getting rid of something that's way past it expiration date. NASCAR has already proved that this kind of format only lasts a few seasons before you have to tweak it, consistently every few years, to keep it interesting. At that point, what's the point?

Jimmy Johnson won how many years in a row with the original format? Because the team and driver figured out how to play the system. A top class rider will do the same thing.
Again, you are assuming the SX chase format will be exactly the same as Nascar, why dont you wait and see how it plays out before slandering it?

What are they going to do reset points with 3 rounds left? NASCAR has a lot more races.

I would be interested in what the riders and teams think about this. Not that the promoters give a rat's patoot.
yes, riders and teams input much more important than experts on Vital Smile

They had to come up with some way to put the reigns on Dungey.

Just saying don't see how it works with 17 rounds. Maybe they add the MX series to the SX series and crown 1 champion?

So you're asking the company that runs Supercross to cut about a third off of a season...and their profits?

If someone suggested to you that you could only make about a two-thirds of your salary, would you go for that?

Some more thoughts.

I really don't like the chase idea. I basically started ignoring NASCAR when it started. I found the early rounds to be less important after it was implemented and the chase rounds to not truly reflect the best series driver/team.

Isn't there enough motivation to stimulate attendance at individual races simply to root on one's favorite rider at the event? This is a sport that rewards performance not entertainment that relies on artificially created excitement.

The reality is the cream of the crop will rise to the top. At most, a chase may only affect the outcome between 1-3 riders. Take a look at the fan distribution on this board. It covers a greater distribution than 1-3 riders. Does the chase really do anything to increase excitement? More likely, if one is only watching/attending events because one's favorite rider is in the hunt for the championship then a DNF or poor performance in a chase round would likely hurt interest and attendance as the number of events is so limited as to not allow for an opportunity to recover from a poor race result.

The chase concept truly does more to interject the random element of luck into determining the series champion. In a 6 race chase, each round is worth 16.66% of the total. In a 17 race series, each round is only 5.88% of the total. Do we want to risk a championship based on luck (i.e. A mechanical, crash with lapped rider, the flu etc.)

Finally, let's consider the logistics of a chase series. As it is now the races progress geographically around the country. In a chase series, unless the events are equally distributed acround the country, resulting in a much greater overhead both financially and personal to the teams, then the chase will limit exciting events to a narrow geographical portion of the country. I question how many of the less well funded teams could afford the cost of geographical diversity.

I can see the benefit of allowing a rider to perhaps drop their single worst event. Going much beyond this will probably have no influence on outcome at the cost of interjecting a greater percentage of luck into the championship. On the downside, the number of dropped events could result in greater pressure on a rider to return prematurely from an injury.
Early rounds with the chase format do matter because you need enough points to make it into the chase. The chase rounds will truly reflect to the deserving Champion. A champion who is best rider/team on the track and makes the least amount of mistakes.

Sure, the first half of the SX season are pretty motivating for the attendance, but what about the last half of the season when there is a huge points gap between 1st and 2nd and the champion is crowned with 2-3 SX rounds left? Not very exciting isn't it? Supercross is a sport that rewards performance, but Supercross is also an entertainment business and it always has been. Chase format will bring more excitement for the fans.

You're totally right, the best rider/team will rise to the top. If a rider has a DNF or a poor result during the chase rounds, then he doesn't deserve the championship. The best rider/team is the one who makes the least amount of mistakes when it matters.

The chase concept will not gain any luck what so ever. In a 6 chase races (7 chase races would be better),16.66% does not represent "luck", it represents how important it is get good results in each chase round. This will create good battles and excitement for the fans.

There's no downside on having 7 chase rounds, but it does create pressure for the riders to perform well from round 11-17. May the best rider who can handle the pressure, be fast on the track and makes the least amount of mistakes win the championship. If a rider gets injured, it's because that rider made a careless mistake.

That's too bad.

I always go to the Detroit round near the end of the series, it's generally a snoozer by that time.

There's got to be a way to create variability in who wins each week. If Dunge wins 11 of 17 in the current format he's going to win 11 of 17 in a chase.

Different track designs, soils, conditions, etc. Hell, bring back the popsicle stick draw for gate pick.

So what will everyone say when it's Roczen not dunge who has a massive lead.... will there be as much vitriol against him as there was RYAN?

Best thing to do is longevity points. The later races are worth more points, gradually. Maybe even some heat race and hole shot points. MAYBE even widen the point gap as the season goes on.

If a guy wins every Moto- sorry it's gonna be a boring season.

unfortunately the only three things i can think of to make the racing better would require drastic changes in the status quo

1. Adopt the Mec multiple main event sprints, with the points totaled at the end of the night,
there for consistency wins along with the variable of skill.. you could see some serious different winners with the low lap amount.. but it would entirely fuck up the status quo

2. Staggard Starts, 4 bikes wide all the way back completing the field, which completely fucks up the status quo as well. (as well isnt as badass as a full rider gate)

3. create tracks that promote better racing in sx...= fucks up the status quo, because you then get a track thats hard to pass on and everybody goes fast in a single line.

I think any change to make the racing more exciting all the way around is going to fuck up the status quo.

amatuer racing is exciting because its short as hell and start dependent

For whatever reason I all but stopped watching NASCAR when it went to a chase format. When Busch missed a part of the series and won the championship I lost interest.
I'd rather see much more diversity in the tracks. If somebody dominates, so be it.
