I think the real place 2-strokes are doing well is offroad. XCs seem to sell very well.
They are selling a little over 1000 a year in the US of the 250SX model. The best selling 2T model for them is the 300 XC-W and that is around 1500 a year.

Curb weight 04 kx500 233lbs.... 7.5lbs could be lost easily with the mud shovel back fender and crazy big seat!

I lost 7 lbs off my new 15 crf450 by putting a single slip on.
But... It now falls over in right hand corners!

Thats what I thought...I would've thought KTM sold many more bikes than that.

What do they sell worldwide a year, like 130k or something?
150k plus KTM's sold last year. They have averaged 15.5% increase in sales for the seven years straight. This year on track for 173k bikes sold. Here in Idaho, 2 stokes outsell 4 stroke dirt bikes.

seems Mr Collier liked them enough to put them on his 500, i have ridden them and like them, heaps of adjustment, but maybe to much for the average mxer, a note book with settings written down goes a long way with them,

I had limited time on the bike and tried to find a setup but could not. However, facts are from what I read in magazines and from friends who owned them there arent a lot of favourable comments. So I stand by what I said above.

I spend alot of money on my 2 KX's now, keepin them running good, and thats what I'll continue doing.
I will never own another 4-stroke for moto other than the few Honda XR's I had when I was younger.
Oh........and my lawnmower!

I'd be willing to wager a bet on KTM selling more off road units than any of the jap manufacturers. The big four sell a shit ton of street legal bikes which always ends up skewing the numbers.

I was in a couple of dealerships last weekend and witnessed plenty of leftover Japanese MXers collecting dust, even with deep discounts.

I think you are confusing facts with opinions.

Plus, like many forks ive owned with springs, there is a lot of improvement to be had with just basic revalving.

My '15 TAC forks, once valved and set up, were amazing. Can't wait for these '16s. Kawi is definitely making moves in the right direction

Well, at least Kawi listened to me about my front fender complaints on the other bikes (KTM). Cool Of course, there was really nothing wrong with their previous front fender, like the one on the KX250F. Silencer looks better (and smaller). It looks good in motion on the homepage vid.

They missed the mark. Should have put the magic button and start digging into KTM's market share.

Seriously considering one myself. Miss my 2012 and green machines in general. Just unsure if I go the 450 or 250 this time.

Sorry... Was a bit off with my math.

Any way my Arrow Ti/carbon slip-on with noise reducer removed was slightly lighter than the stock mid-pipe and RH side muffler. Then the other side weighed 2.4kg + 2 big clamps, gasket sleeves. Looking at 2.7kg all up with Ti bolts.
So was roughly 6lb off. Pretty darn happy

All the brands are collecting dust on the showrooms compared to what they used to sell. I am sure there are more Japanese mx bikes sitting there as they produce more than ktm. In reality though, at the tracks, the ktms are usually outnumbered by at least 10:1. I seriously doubt ktm is selling more sxf's than honda is selling crf's. As far as woods, I know ktm has a strong showing there, but I don't woods ride anymore, so I wouldn't begin to estimate the ratio there.

5% of entire motorcycle market in USA which includes HD's, electric m/c's Can am, Vespa the big 4 etc. The japanese went to sleep r&d wise during the great recession and now they are playing catch up with Yamaha leading the way. 5 years down the road, KTM could be taking over the #4 spot of the big 4. They actually builld bikes people want. The japanese and german cops tend to build and bike without listening to the dealerships. Also KTM aftermarket sales are only second to HD aftermarket sales.
If a dealership can make good money on aftermarket sales, they will tend to stock the bikes that provide the best profit to keep the business profitable and reduce the manufacture products that they have to sell at cost to get rid of. That is why you can buy an 450 Suzuki for a big discount. My local dealership has 3 Suzukis on the showroom and when they can get them, about 15 KTM's.

Not the prettiest looking bike out there, what the hell is going on with the side number plates over the past few years on all the brands? They're shrinking dramatically every year! Anyone with a 3-digit (hell, even 2-digit) will struggle to fit their number on that those little things!
