The track was insanely rough and I was just glad I wasn't out there racing on it. A full grown human person could lay down in some of those ruts and completely disappear.

But it sure was fun to watch the best riders in the world tip toe around the track.

I raced at this track the other day; and, in the second Moto it was super-rough. I had to change my lines and my pace.

Isn't that weird?

MX is supposed to be rough. The track did not make Tomac crash. It was a typical Tomac racing crash. Every year Tomac has been racing the nationals and SX he has suffered from crashes. This year is no different. Every body wants to rag on Dungey for his lack or agression but look who is leading the points. Tomac could have backed it off a little and won his 6th moto but he crashed with a huge lead. Speed has never been Tomacs problem crashes and bad starts are his down fall.

Carlsbad and Unadilla were two of the three best races to watch, simply because they were the two roughest tracks. Carlsbad is gone and Unadilla is no where near as fun to watch because they have smoothed it out to the point that it is hard to even see the difference between it and a track like Steel City. The tracks these days suck and it shows, in our riders performance.
Someone needs to start up another National Motocross series and get this sport out of the control of the people who run it now!

All such deep ripping does is create ruts that would not typically be there in a natural setting. The tracks will get plenty rough with less extreme prep. My 2 cents.
I was coming in to say exactly this

And I mean not just Thunder Valley it seems they do the same prep at every National

The track would've been perfect if they didn't scrape the added material off because of the rain. Roughness looked fine but seemed a bit slippery because of the circumstances.

What I remember was the dust. It was a obstacle in itself.

You'd be pulling 3 inch long snot covered dirt clods 3 days later out the nostrils.

They should take out all the jumps and all the ruts. Then to keep huge braking bumps from building up, they should take the brakes off the bikes to. And to keep riders from having to think to much and make dangerous decisions, take out all the right turns. Then it would have to be 'safer'. It's my idea so I think it should be called Flat track, or something catchy like that(they can use that name without paying me a royalty to). The Tomac and Bubba types will still push the edge until they eventually crash, but everybody else should be ok

If you think todays tracks are too rough , try to imagine a track so rough that using a modern bike that equalled the roughness of a late 70s track using a 70s bike . How rough would that track have to be?

I don't think the tracks are to rough and the crashes are not anymore or worse then previous years. I think maybe they could have even watered alittle more in a few sections. The ruts r deep enough to stand on at almost every national. It's like all u cry babies forgot what outdoors is like including Dungey. I think I remember all u babies complaining when they got rid of southwick because the national tracks are to easy and we need more rough tracks like southwick. What do you guys want, maybe try watching some flat track if you want a smooth safe track

X2 ...1or 2 guys can go fast everybody else is tip toeing around the track. The races have been boring IMO i prefer closer racing. Thats why im enjoying the GPs more this year with rv or no rv racing is tighter.

How lucky were we to have blue skies with very little high cloud all day for the race and a few days before hand of only a little rain so they could get the track put together?

Well...guess what its doing now? Thats right....thunderstorms and localized downpours.
