My 14 yz450 is easiest starting bike ever. Hot cold tipped stalled whatever.2 or 3 easy fake baby kicks starts every time. My 80 lb 12 yr old son starts it no prob. Says its easier than his cr105 supermini and yz85. No he does not ride it lol

YES electric start is going to be the next thing to come from the Japanese manufacturers. I have heard that Kawasaki may have an electric start on the 2015. Its a big reason people buy KTMs and the Japanese are aware of that. but damn 450s are heavy enough do you want to add 5 pounds? check out 450 race quads the fast guys choose kickstart over electric

some guy with a new ktm with a rekluse had his battery die at the track the other day, cant bump start with rekluse, no kickstarter= end of your day. i love the way the new KTMs are built but removing all provisions for a kicker is a shot in the foot. dungey learned that the hard way when his battery died as well and he was left crying as all of the normal bikes rolled on by.

all of my bikes will ALWAYS have a kicker on them. not to mention life is easy when your bike starts within 2 kicks no matter what. i dont mind one bit.

Well you may have just answered a question I had regarding the Rekluse system....I thought with more pro teams running he Rekluse, or some variation thereof, that some of the crashes didn't result in having to restart the bike, as the system disengaged. It did seem a lot of riders who fell were able to just get the bike upright and got rolling right away. Maybe I am all wrong. It happened once before.Laughing
newer rekluse auto's have provisions for bump starting....

I had a 13 KTM with the button. Now I have a 13 KX450F and it starts easier than the KTM did. I don't see what the big deal is. I actually prefer the bike without the e start.

Here's what the batteries in the Red Bull KTMs looked like...a couple years ago. It was more akin to an RC car battery than a big, bulky hard case battery.

I believe Van Horbeck specifically requested E start when he signed for Yamaha. And they made it happen for him.

We've seen prototype electric start being utilized in MXGP this year. Have to believe Yamaha being the technology leader they are will be the first to put electric start into production. When this happens do you think any of their Japanese compatriots will follow suit? Who do you think would be first?

I venture to say the 2016 Yamahas will be electric start but it will be two years after that before Honda uncorks one. Crystal ball is too cloudy for Suzuki and Kawasaki predictions.
is this the ROCK i think it is?

That little bit of extra weight doesn't mean sh!t to a old, slow, fat guy like me.

I agree with the mandatory kickstart lever and love the magic button combo on my 300 XC.

The chance that a pro needs both for SX and MX is minimal and not necessary but in the rough and gnarly life of racing in the trees the top guys might want both especially if running a Recluse.

For me having both options is the hot ticket.

The Japanese brands (or at least the majority of them) will probably have the button in the near future.

Ehhh... with a fuel injected bike I havnt had to kick my bike over more than 4 or 5 times to start it, even when hot. So I dont care. Rather not have it actually because thats more stuff to break/have to maintain

I will never ever buy another new bike Mx or Enduro without E start. When I ride from my place out into the bush we have some nasty bastard rutted rocky hills, steep goat trail hills. Trying to kick a bike over off balance, on tippy toe, middle of summer, 98% humidity you'd understand.
My KTM350 weighs less than my son's WR250 anyway. That's ADR compliance for Australian road rego ready.

Though I did recently buy an old RM250 to race twin shock class, starts first kick.

Sometimes you have to go "back to the future"!

When racers are riding around with suspension so cushy that they don't really feel the bumps, electric start, automatic clutch, with the bike changing suspension settings on the fly autonomously as the terrain changes, and the bike calculating how far to turn the throttle to land a quad perfectly every time, and the nationals are no longer gnarly because the bikes are like Cadillac's out there, remember this post.

Progress is great, but there are some things that need to remain raw for the sake of the sport.
The things I mentioned are in the future. Many of the technologies are possible today, and all will be possible in a few years. We have to decide what we want in our sport.

I say let's keep the adrenaline.

And to your comment, the Past is gone. The future is bright.
What's an electric or kick star have to do with adrenaline?

I've seen it happen quite a few times with Dungey and some of the GP KTM riders where they stall it in a corner and have fired the engine back up again and are away before they even stopped rolling. In fact I think I even remember VanHorebeek doing it with his e-start Yamaha. Even if your bike only takes 2 kicks every time, that's still going to be a significantly longer amount of time and energy wasted and potentially positions lost compared to just pressing a button.

Just curious, what kind of maintenance do you speak of with e start? Putting a battery tender on it after a weekend ride? Im starting to think that a 1960's Yamaha DT1 would be the perfect bike for many on this forum. Low tech, low weight, low price. Perfect. Woohoo

I'm probably wrong but, Cannondale had the first E-start motocross bike. They also had the first reverse cylinder head on a mx bike. Fuel Injection as well. If Yamaha is following someone,,,, it's Cannondale.

i honestly can't understand why bikes don't already come with them. weight on the fatass 450's shouldn't be an issue, they already weigh a fucking 1/8th ton.

cost? nah... each new bike comes with something new each year that the consumer definitely doesn't need and is forced to deal with anyway, driving the price through the roof. air forks and air shocks? give me a fucking break.

as mentioned above, after having an electric start on my bike for a couple years now, i can not see myself ever owning another bike without it (maybe a 125)...

makes me laugh at the morons claiming it's the weight... hah! shed that fucking gut if you're worried about weight on the bike. 5-8 pounds on the bike isn't going to affect you at all.
Lmfaooooo. Peelout half the fun of readin vital is reading your reponses. You are one funny mother fucker
