A few of you guys have your dicks so far up Villopoto's exhaust pipe. He's an amazing rider, and we all know that. Most Motocross fans over here are just as passionate about the racing in the US as we are the World Championship, we study the riders in America just as closely as you guys and many of us have experienced the racing first hand. It's already been mentioned, bust just about all the MXGP guys have raced RV a number of times already, they know what he'll bring. If they can't match it then they can't match it, there's not shame in that. No one else in America can either.
If Villopoto wins the series it won't come as too much of a surprise, personally I have a hard time predicting that he won't, but it will be unbearable for you if he doesn't. So just chill the fuck out and enjoy the racing instead of telling us what you're absolutely convinced is going to happen.
Without a doubt Cairoli is the man to beat for the Worldtitle, since his 6 consecutive ones.
Villo is the main contender, period. The last Americans travelling across the ocean weren't the greatest talented ones (Albertson, Decotis, Covington). RV is something else. Multiple times National and SX-champion, that's not only because he's a talented rider, also because he works his ass off. He knows how to win a championship.
Now, about Qatar. It's not a difficult track, it's very fast and making a gap is difficult, a little bit like Sevlievo in Bulgaria: if you get a good start and you don't crash/make mistakes, you'll finish up front (hence Covington's third place in Moto 2 last year). When you have to come back from midpack, the leaders will be out of reach. (I'm talking about the top 5 guys) That's why I believe RV will do good in Qatar.
But: since he hasn't raced outdoors since when? Half 2013? I'll think the following GP's he'll get a more difficult time. When his racing pace is back on the level, he'll be hauling ass. Not that he will be getting 1 - 1 sweeps all the time, but he'll be difficult to beat.
Cairoli - Villopoto - Paulin - Desalle - Van Horebeek and maybe Strijbos - De Dycker and Nagl will be sharing the GP wins.
About the pre-season races: they don't mean shit, certainly not when it's all mud like in Valence. They use it to test their fitness and the settings of the bike. No one races at 100% in those races. They're nice to us, the spectators, but the real deal is the World Championship.

Hey I guess that says something for USA when our local hero waxes the world on a 250f not too long ago.
I caught that too. I also noticed when they were showing RV's bike, it had a hydro clutch on it, but when he was riding, it had a cable clutch. Maybe something he's still testing?
Other than the above though.
By far the most consistent country over the entire history is Belgium, amazing really for such a small place.
