Rare or ununsual bikes you've ridden or owned?

For me - a 1987 Cagiva WMX125. A friend was just about to sell his back in 89 or 90 and I got to take it for a short spin. Had a great motor from what I remember.

Both are from 1977 oddly enough .... the Harley XLCR Cafe bike which was a great bike if you didn't mind going straight ... the Harley MX250 which was soooooooooo freaking tall me at 6'2" still couldn't put my feet flat .... both though were seriously fun to ride despite their issues.

95 Husaberg FC 501..

left sided kick....if people thought early 250fs were hard to start when hot they never rode one of these..

had some supertrick parts on it though...handled pretty strange..allot of weight on the front end..i was only 15 at the time.. for some reason my dad always bought me something way bigger than what I needed...before that he bought me an 86 cr 500 that was in pieces..luckily we never finished rebuilding it and he ended up getting me the 'berg instead

I have a friend who always owned weird vintage mx bikes. Rode a bunch of them. Weird stuff trying to shift on the right and brake on the left. Always failed miserably with that!Laughing

I painted the Rickman back in '93. Early 70's Rickman Montesa

Pic off the net , 70 BSA B50 MX

These shifted normal....still weird.

Puch 125 MX. net pic

Cooper 250 I painted back in 96. There was a reason these leftovers were selling for 300 bucks.

Italjet PW50, got it in almost this condition, barely used in 2000, frightening to ride, cant imagine how quick is was with a kid on it in its day

Dad put a Honda XL125 motor in an XR75 frame. Had ungodly amount of torque....and solid pegs. Thing could start in 3rd gear and my boots were catapulted off every landing.

Hey Newman, My very first ride on a real dirbike was one of those Rickman Montesa"s like in the picture. I broke my arm strait away from wisky throttle...I was hooked on dirtbikes for life after that...LOL

I went the opposite direction back in the 80s.. put a 70's XL125 engine in a 82 XR200R chassis with the XR carb & exhaust. The XL engine was a direct bolt on for the most part.

Since you're aloud to run big wheels on your 60's over here my brother had a Kawi 60cc engine in a 80cc Honda frame. Thing ripped believe it or not!

This was a great bike at the time , the only thing that sucked about it was the kick starter was on the wrong side , so I would have to hope off it to start it if I stalled it in a Conner

Had an '89 ATK for a little while. That and a Chapparel (can't spell it and couldn't hardly ride it, either). were the two weirdest bikes I've ridden. Rode one os those '87 Cagiva 125s, too, but it didn't seem weird at the time.

Not sure how rare it is, but as a kid we had an early 80s Yamaha Enduro 80 two stroke dual sport hanging out in the shed. Had like a second cousin leave it with my grandparents who lived next door. I think those Enduros actually have a decent cult following, and one of these days I'd like to pick one up and have a project. The one we orphaned disappeared as mysteriously as it appeared, never seen my cousin ride it or anything. No telling......

Buddy had one of these that I rode a few times. 82 or 83 KTM 504 with the big heavy rotax engine. It had that typical KTM feel from back then, tall and wanted to stand up everywhere. Forks were flexible and the shock was harsh.

The thing I remember the most? Worlds hardest seat. Cinder blocks are softer.

Cool motor though.

Anyone own a Can Am back in the 80s? When I first started riding and going to watch local hare scrambles, Can Ams were everywhere.. Few jap bikes.. lots of Huskies, KTMs, and a smattering of Yamaha ITs and Kawasaki KDXs. Loved the way the Can Ams developed up till 87 or so.. they were sharp!

Yamaha Big Wheel 80. First bike I ever rode. It was my neighbor's bike and if you balanced it just right, it would stay upright without the kickstand!

Thats a 86,87 had upside down forks. I was on the original factory team they started that year thru fall of 89.

The 250s were supe fast but a straightrate rear suspension left me snapping swingarms like toothpicks.

They gave me a 87 125 to race in 88 because the 500 class was combined and killed so instead of racing 250 and 500 you had torace 125 and 250 at even the local AMA tracks. It sucked.

The 125 was ohlins front and back, the 250 was whitepower front and back.
