We cant just measure by LL titles. There have been many other events over the years of championship minicycle racing.

bruce bunch. look at how much fast competition he had to face. there has never been a larger really fast group of 80 riders then at this time.

Everyone races LL's not everyone races the James Stewart Freestone race for example, or other various AM races through out the country.

Back in the day it was world mini's, LL's, Ponca City.

Now you have ten in a year you could race and you aren't racing the best every time IMO

LLs is the best of the best every single year. No matter what.

I've seen a lot of the greats at one time or another on 80's but for me none were faster than Erik Kehoe and George Holland.

He is the ONLY one to EVER win all moto's of 50's and 65's the same year, claiming 2 titles that year. He's had really bad luck there up to that point. He was considered the one to beat all four years of 50's but had painfully bad luck. The Cobra factory mechanic forgot to refill oil after changing a clutch between motos, DNF's / crashes don't win motos. The factory's like Winter O titles, JS&/Freestone titles, Oak Hill titles, Dodge titles, World Mini titles, Now the Cal Classic titles, etc, they all count. So much so that Kawi consider's him the AC replacement / the "next big thing".

I hate to sound like an asshat (which I know I do), but FOR REAL, if you saw this kid ride, mind = blown!
I think he has the talent to be one of the best ever.

But he is not the best ever at this point in his young career.

For instance, if he never raced a dirtbike again, he would not be considered one of the best to ever do it at this point.

James, Alessi and AC all have 11 LL's titles. There are others on the list for more wins as well. Those are the guys he has to catch and beat to be considered on of the best ever.

Was lucky enough to see Paul Denis ride here in the UK , alomg with Larry Ward... Denis was run hard by Mark Banks, and while he won , he didnt have it all his own way.... Ward was on an 80 Suzuki and he just killed it , nobody rode like that back then.

RC, Robbie Reynard, Ezra lusk, swink, antunez, Gaddis, emig....I had the amazing opportunity to race with the first two frequently during amateurs...the rest were my heroes I watched from the sideline. The best races ever were the Kawasaki race of champions at the old world mini track in Vegas....those battles were EPIC!

kitsch, swink, larocco, junior jackson, greg bowen....all big hitters from mid-west. kitsch was probably the raw fastest kid on an 80 until swink got big enough and johnny moved out of 80s. I think between the 2 they took 2-3 straight years at KROC.

Not always true, some of the best of their time sit on the sidelines and watch or just don't go. Ryder D. has won every 50 National moto by 20+ seconds this year. He broke his arm a few weeks before regionals and isn't going to be there to contest the title. He has been clearly the best kid and someone else will go down as the best this year. I'm sure that's not the first time that has happened.

Kehoe was the best I've seen to date on 80's , and I have to put Holland 2nd because he is only rider I ever saw beat him straight up. I think overall , though, Kehoe got the best of him . Now big bikes was a whole different story.

DMC made Ezra Lusk some sweet bikes...he had a 60 that I used to drool over. The front disk was awesome. Not sure if this is it.....

I still have some DMC, R & D, and Barr's Competition stickers from back in the 80's. If anyone is doing a rebuild and wants some, let me know.

One of the few, hell maybe the only, sponsors I ever had was DMC. I had a good friend who worked there and he got me hooked up. That was 1985 thru 1988. Dave Miller was a maestro.

I was in my buddies shop a few years back. I found a list of names and phone numbers. It was a who's who list of the 1980s fast guys. One of the few joys of getting older is looking back IMO. Not living in the past, but just enjoying the ride and the memories.

Sweet bike.

In my time late 70's early 80's it was:

Mouse McCoy
Kehoe
Holland

Honorable mention to:

Steve Shippy
Paul Denis
Kurtie Hedrickson
Louie Franco
and all of Team Green

I saw so many epic battles during NMA qualifiers and Golden State / Trans Cal races.

I always made a point to watch the 80 experts absolutely PINNING it everywhere they went.

I know there have probably been faster 80 riders - JS, Buddy, RR17 maybe but for some reason these guys and this era stands out for me.

Bruce Bunch, Rick Hemme, and Kyle Flemming how different the record books may have looked.

I think you have seen one or two of these guys race before.

Good list.

In Colorado the best mini rider ever was Andy Atkins. Gio Tedesco from New Mexico was also very good.

DC, in all you're time spent organizing amateur mx, who do feel had the most natural talent, but never made it big on the pro level?

Looks like Baja, loved that place. Should have a National in the future.

Have to go with Swink aswell, dude was bad fast. To bad he was expected to ride with injury's when he went Pro. Happy to see times have changed..Hence Tomac waiting for his collar-bone to heal VS plate it and ride

The most entertaining, Brandon Layton! The smoothest, Charlie Bogard. The fastest...prob james. Most dominant, AC.
Personal favorite, Chase Reed.

What's up vital! I'm somewhat new to the site. I watched swink and antunez battle many times when I was kid playing in the dirt. Another name some may of forgot about is Jack Ricks from tx. Jack was super fast back then. I think the best battle I had the privilege of watching was at Ponca in 87 between Swink and Buddy. My brother placed 3rd behind them that year ahead of Lusk.
