Two of my paintings of Marty from that great day were auctioned off at the Spreckels Theatre San Diego premiere of the USGP video, produced by Todd Huffman. The late Tom White won the action photo and I believe Marty’s friend Jim Beauchamp has the portrait. Good times!👍

I was there! Amazing race, I remember Mike Bell had a bad day, heat stroke maybe, but went home and later that night he went on like a 20 mile bike ride! These guys were animals! RIP Mike as well!

In 1980 I was 10 yrs. old and watched the USGP from Carlsbad on Wide World of Sports and it plotted the course of my life from there on. Marty Moates was the luckiest man in the world. For the first time in my life I felt the feeling of National pride.

This team gets mad props for going with two of the three guys going it was brand new bikes but they don’t set the pace for American moto at least 450 MX also When Hannah jumped on a 125 he trained for weeks on it not mere day and Injures effected everyone outside of Lativa and all the top teams had a guy out or injured in the case of Belgium. Agreed. This year's SMX tracks are really a big let down. Shame on Feld. This Thunder Ridge Finale track looks like it's gonna be SMX style, we shall see. SMX tracks, at a bare minimum, should consist of tracks similar to: -Daytona, Chicago or Atlanta speedway tracks. -Vegas Monster Cup or LA Coliseum tracks that go up and outside of a stadium. -Charlotte or Vegas Dragstrip tracks. Feld can do much better than even just those, but it ain't that damn hard. Pick 3 tracks that at least meet that criteria and you've automatically done better than these SX tracks...

When I think of SX, I think of domed roof NFL stadiums at night. What we have now is closer to state fair races. Bench seat viewing, open top, mid-day so you're guaranteed either a dust bowl or a mudder. I wish I were exaggerating but I'm not. Super pumped for the Tackle Shop Parking lot race in Missouri.
