I'm not trying to start anything, I just truly believe that the reason people are drawn to Trey is because of his faith, even if they don't see it.
I don't think that's true. There are good people who religious, and there are good people who aren't religious. There are also assholes who are religious, and assholes who aren't religious. People tend to act the way they truly are, independent of their religious affiliation. Those who happen to be religious just use that religion as a justification for why they act the way they act. If people were drawn to Trey because of his faith, then they'd be drawn to all the other religious riders as well.

It was a hell of a ride, and it made for some great racing!

I know he has been through hell with injuries, and it is rare to see somebody go through that and not back it down a notch. The way he rides - post injuries - is inspiring. He may not be as fast as KR, but you would be hard pressed to find the person who says he's not giving it his all.

If he keeps up that speed, I think he will win motos.

Man I wanted him to win, that young Cat was riding his ass off, I was impressed...Although I'm not a church goer you can best believe I talk to God and pray for everybody involved to keep us safe while out there...

Trey is very inspiring, and seems to very genuinely appreciate his place in the sport. He genuinely seems to love riding a motorcycle.
I don't believe in any gods, so his religious remarks don't jive with my beliefs, but he could be a big believer in Budha and i would still think he is an amazing rider and a genuinely good person.

He won north of $5k at the Texas Pro Challenge a few years back and donated the winnings to a paralyzed rider, too.

I'm a Christian...but I'm also a core MX fan. That being said, I'm not a fan of Trey Canard's because we share the same beliefs. I'm a huge fan of Trey Canard's because he is an awesome rider who has overcome a level of adversity that many, many would have chosen to walk away from our sport over. His heart is the sheer heart of a racer, a competitor...and he refuses to quit.

Many "good people" aren't Christians...I know plenty of them. And, we all know there are a lot of people who really push their being "good Christians" (whatever that is), but are not good people at all. I know plenty of them too. I like the fact that Trey has the "walk" to go with his talk. He's a human...but not a hypocrite. I admire him for still thanking God on the podium, rather than having that be a thing of the past when it quit being "cool"...like several other top-five riders. Believe what he does or not...at least he keeps it real, consistently.

I think there are a lot of people who agree with you Ridge, did you hear the fans yelling for him during his podium speech? They were going nuts, I don't think I have heard a response like that at a national. Red bud fans were off the hook. Great Ride Trey and keep it up!

For those who feel compelled to discuss his faith with either good or bad comments, that's great! Trey would be the first to say at least your talking about faith in God and that's the first step. Its a conversation he is more than willing to have and the fact that its brought up every time someone says something about him means he is doing his part. Thank you Trey.

Good story Huck! I'm a little surprised about how Robbie treated you. Hopefully he was just having a bad day.

For those of you who don't think Trey is as fast as KR, I disagree! I hope he is holding back a little to let his body/mind catch up to the pace. It's been a long time since he's gone this far without getting hurt. Also, isn't he riding a bike that isn't too well liked by others? Honda has been great to Trey though.

As far as believing goes...I think some of you cats need a few more REAL life threatening situations. It took me a few. I don't preach about it because I'm not sold on everything, but I think there might be 'something' out there. Regardless, I try to be the best person I can, and if there is a God, hopefully he isn't disappointed.

Best of luck to you Trey (if you end up reading this).

Extremely hard, or impossible not to like and root for the guy. I have been stoked to see him battling hard for the lead lately.

The only criticism I have of Trey is that he sometimes cross jumps while trying to maintain a position and it scares the shit outta me!
7/6/2014 11:34am
I see him getting a win but KRoc is so damn fast right now. If Canard could have jump the leap everytime i think he would have stayed with KR most the race. they were throwing it down battleing!

X100, the "God thing" is a great thing. The humility that Trey bring to our beloved sport is refreshing. Riders like Trey, Dunge, Jmart are setting an prime example for the kids coming through the youth ranks.

Canard is a class act. His demeanor and attitude is what a christian should use as a model. I always thought he wouldn't be better than a top ten finisher in the 450's but he is dropping my jaw every week at his speed. I think there's a championship coming real soon, and he deserves it totally. Go Canard!

The last thing I like about Trey is his faith. I don't care about it one way or another. There are plenty of great people out there who are not of faith. What I do love about him is how hard he rides; he fights the whole time. I've definitely become a fan of his. Plus all that he's come back from is pretty damn amazing too.

The old saying goes something like "2 things you don't discuss in public...politics and religion". Trey is certainly deeply enraptured in his faith and that's 100% ok by me. I consider myself a christion but am totally jaded by organised religion. Many folks have a hard time making the distinction between a convicted person like Trey and the money grubbing whoremongers that falsely use Christianity to feather their nests. It's easy to lump them all together and dismiss the lot as nut jobs but there is a diffence. We can't all have a personal interaction with Trey but Hucks story should give a little insight of how Trey's faith manifests itself.

A quick little story about what kind of guy he is....

A few years back I rented Copper Land to have the first annual "Huckfest" (little did we know it would be the last too, but that's another story).

I had put the word out on vital and a few other spots, and let trey's mom know as well. When we got to Stillwater, I figured I needed somebody at the gate collecting money, so the night before I asked the bartender at outback if her and her friend wanted to make some cash. They showed up bright and early the next morning and I gave them a list of "comps". I had told everybody that if you have a national number, you got in for free.....

Well, a shit-ton of people ended up coming and after about an hour or so, my gate girl had been charging everybody that came through the gate....including Robbie Reynard, Justin Boggle (who was still an amateur), and Trey. Word got back to me that RR's girlfriend/wife was making a bit if a scene telling the girl that "he's Robbie Reynard, he shouldn't have to pay!" My girl stuck to her guns and made them pay.

So I got get $40 out of my wallet and plan on giving trey and Robbie their money back. I first go to Robbie's van and introduce myself and explain what happened and that I was giving him his money back. His only reply was "just put it on that bag". Now he may be the nicest guy in the world, but he seemed very short and rude.

Then I head over to trey's van. This was the year he was fighting for his national championship. I introduce myself and he comes over to shake my hand and thank me for renting the track and allowing everybody to come out and ride. I explain to him about the gate and that he was supposed to be a comp. He asked "did everybody else pay, and did you have to pay to rent the track?" I told him yes and he said "then you keep my $20. If everybody else paid, then so should I". I told him that I appreciated that, but it was worth $20 to me to see him ride." He thanked me again, shook my hand and continued to get geared up.

Halfway through the day, I was chatting with his mom and shooting the breeze. He pulled back into their pits and his mom introduced us...he told her that he already meet me, then thanked me again for letting everybody ride.

A little later on the track, I was jumping a jump and heard him coming. I was on the far left side of a jump and he passed me completely sideways....and extremely close to me!!!! I rode another lap and pulled off, thinking I just about took him out while he's trying to get a national championship. Him and Justin were doing a moto, so at the end he rode up to my pit to apologize for getting so close. I told him I thought it was my fault. He said "you kept your line, I'm the goon that go cross rutted and almost hit you, sorry!!!"

After that trip, I knew I'd always be a Trey Canard fan!!!!

You may not like his religious beliefs, but it's hard to not admire his conviction....in all he does. To me, there's no better embassitor for our sport!!!!

Huck....I may not agree with you all the time....but that was a damn cool story. Even more reasons to dig Trey for sure!

I am a huge fan of Canard. Although he is religious, he is a very spiritual being. I do not practice Christianity, we do share very similar spiritual beliefs. He has found the treasure in every one of his heart aches. He knows that everything that has happened has led him to his current moment. With his career, I asked what if.... his rookie 450F season was as impressive as KROCS. Canard wasn't asking "what if" on Saturday - he had the gas pinned. A hell of a ride and he has a lot more up side. He is a contender for this title, and one of the favorites for the 2015 SX title.

Additional Note: Every year, Canard is the last rider to leave motorcycle shop in Vegas. He signs every autograph. My buddy who works at the shop stated his ride was late picking him up this year, and he stood in the parking lot with the Canard smile spending time with all the employees and fans. How can you root against him? We need more athletes in all sports like him, we need more human beings like him. Race on Canard!!!!

Here is Canard on the gas his rookie season: http://youtu.be/HwUopJi3vpc

I agree it is refreshing to see someone of faith talk about it and give thanks the way he does. Believe or not, your choice. He does and says it. He is a role model, on and off the track. Go Trey! We believe in and are pulling for you!

Good topic. I was just thinking this watching the race the other day. I was like, man look how much this guy has been through and he keeps coming back strong and is just so naturally talented. He is probably my top 3 favorite rider. Just love him.

He seems like a great person but I am a fan of his riding. If he was a 20th place guy we wouldn't necessarily be fans of him even though he is the same person. At the end of the day we are fans of his speed and talent and then throw a great person on top of that and it's hard not to love him.

Unfortunately...I agree. Even more unfortunate is that hypocrites are everywhere, and they are so common that they are the ones seen as the standard for Christians by those who are not believers. Like I said in my post, I know many non-Christians who are genuinely good people, and I know some who are not. Pretty much the same goes with those I know who profess to be Christians. I've seen lots of people who had Christian fish stickers on their cars, wore Christian t-shirts and are in their churches every time the doors open...but are the biggest jerks you'd ever want to meet. Others look just like you & me, but are humble, loving & generous like Jesus taught. They make mistakes, just like you & me, but strive to live according to what they believe. They know they are works in progress.

It's a breath of fresh air to see a guy like Trey who is a stone cold killer on the race track...but a guy who genuinely lives what he professes to believe off of it. No fake, no phony, just a guy who loves The Lord & is faithful to do what he's called to do.
