Bonds was hurt pretty bad after GL did that, you can see by the look back Langston knew exactly where Bonds was gonna be...

Exactly.

In this incident Bonds fucked with GL and got the payback. Was it right? Is any takeout the right thing to do? Are takeouts only fucked up when someone happens to get hurt, but ok when they make it out clean? Every single rider in the Pro ranks has taken someone out intentionally at one point or another. I'm sure Bonds took plenty of folks out during his amateur/pro career. Do you guys feel bad for the racers Bonds has taken out over the years? I seriously doubt it. Don't get yourselves emotionally invested in one racing incident between two riders many moons ago.

The difference is the remorse or lack there of, in this case, concerning the consequences of the action.

I'd like to think that if I overreacted and viciously took someone out and the result severely altered their career path and life, I'd be remorseful enough to not look back on it as a fond memory to share with friends and strangers on social media.

If the result effected their moto finish and little else, then yes it would be a different story.

I don't know Bobby Bonds , but I doubt he's interested in having beers with GL to laugh about it. Maybe he would, and if so he's a better man than me.

Not after a couple of shitty cards were handed his way first......just saying. The guy is still amazing to watch ride a dirt bike..........so fast when he wants to be.

Bonds did take a couple broken ribs from that crash, but what was it exactly from that incident that severly altered his career path and life?

Many folks on here are claiming this as if they personally know how it affected Bonds, so I'm really interesting in finding out what it was from that one incident that threw his life into a downward spiral?

Racer X interview with Bonds:

What happened in your motocross career? You were looking like the next big thing and then you just disappeared.
I just sucked (laughs). I had good bikes and all that but I just couldn’t make it happen. I got hurt and things just didn’t come together. You get forgotten about in this sport pretty quick. I got hurt in 2003 and going into 2004 I had no offers. Nobody called me and I couldn’t find a thing. I still wanted to ride a dirt bike so I called Jason from Kawasaki and bugged him to get me a bike to ride off-road on. I got nothing that year. I won some races and then just hung around until things got better.

The first thing that comes to mind for a lot of people when they hear your name is the controversial contact between you and Grant Langston at Hangtown. Have you ever had words with him about that? What are your thoughts on that?
It’s really funny because people still remember me from that day and that is one of the first things they say to me. We never talked. I guess that’s racing. I should have protected my line. It sucked for me but what can you do about it? That was seven years ago already; I was just a little kid.

You're right, I don't know exactly how much that incident directly effected him, I made a lot of assumptions. It just seemed like he was a rising star until that moment and I don't remember ever seeing it again after that injury.

Bonds was landed on at Anaheim in the mid to late 90's much like Trey Canards deal. I was right there. Made me sick. Instead of his head going under the bars like Trey's, Bobby's went over the bars and his chest got crushed between the crossbar and the frame of the bike landing on him. It was the gnarliest sx crash I ever seen since 1981.

Bonds rookie year was 2001 mang. He was still on 65s and 80s in the mid to late 90s.

I enjoy Langston's commentary now but I wasn't much of a fan for a long time after watching that move. It was brutal to say the least.

The wreck you are talking about actually happened at one of the first supercross's of 2002. He broke all kinds of shit in that race, he some how came back to ride nationals that same year, but he had already gained weight and was too big for the bike.........it was all down hill from there for awhile.

I remember Grant being so classy as to throw his half full red bull at my truck a year later because I had Bonds bike in the back of my truck. A year later leaving Glen Helen, practicing before the start of outdoors in 2002. Classy fellow that GL is. Who finds humor in helping the demise of anothers career. His elbow was broke prior to this, it affected his career in the aspect of missing the rest of '01.

Yes, after Alessi had run him off the track followed by sticking his boot out at GL. Although, I don't think he T-boned him. I think that was moto 1 before the Ivan Tedesco fiasco.

Wow! What a dick. It would have been awesome to have stepped up right then after that and broken his jaw.

Yep, at Glen Helen and here's the video. MA800 throwing the kick at the end is classic...like something you'd see in a video game! LOL

I used to race against Bobby Bonds in the early 90s on 60's. I was 10, I think he was 8. He was super fast even at that age, tiny little kid. Usually winning. He must have started riding at 3 or 4.. I was at the hangtown race in 2001, just watching the race. I didn't see the takeout move. I remember being excited that Bobby was near the lead and being bummed about what happened. During the same time I raced Bobby we also raced against Ryan Morais and Daniel Blair. To be fair I never really raced Bobby or Blair, they usually smoked me.. heh. Speaking of brake checks though I remember I got brake checked at Sacramento Raceway and I was furious cus I crashed pretty good. Got back on the bike and won the race on the final turn/ jump. Was super cool.

I was just starting to get over the Bonds stuff and like GL as a commentator. Then, the instagram, and now this? What an asshole. At least Bonds didn't cry after every race.

Speaking of GL. One of my favorite take outs I ever seen him do was at one of the Anaheims (won't mention the year). Tyler Evans had taken him out completely off the track. GL put his head down and gained the 2 straights back and laid him out silly. It was awesome.

I actually lost a little respect for RV2 here. Alessi was on probation and could not retaliate. Kinda like punching a guy in a straight jacket.

If you knew the kind of sh*t Alessi put RV through during their entire amateur career, you'd have gained respect for RV right there.

Wow GL, what an asshole. First it's bad enough to do it on purpose, but to brag about it years later. Your a tool. This sport is really going down the shitter in hurry.

I'm not sure some of you understand the aggression it takes to be GL fast. Mix aggression with cockiness and some hatred in a young man and the results might startle you.

It's a mindset that not too many have and even fewer have Dungey-like control over it.

I understand the take out and the Instagram post! GL still DGAF about BB! Lol

GL got it back in spades, though not from Bobby, but a broken wheel that cost him the championship that year. One thing about the tables, they always turn.

Was I the only one to read this post?
Bonds doesn't sound too upset about it,why do so many here have their panties in a wad over it?
Now GL gloating about it is kind of lame.
