I'm 41 and from the age of 5-26 i rode every weekend. Between 21-26 i did the semi pro thing riding all the Australian mx and sx nationals. They were good times but i think the true enjoyment of riding faded away. I knew that everyday i had to do 35min x 2 motos because that's what my competition was doing or pounding sx laps. Not long after that i got hurt and stopped riding for about ten years until about three years ago i got the urge to ride again. Now i love just riding, its not about the competition its about having fun on my dirtbike. Funnily enough you never forget how to ride and it is fun to give the young guys the hurry up an the track for a few laps and to see their expression when the old grey haired guy takes his helmet off. Glad to see there's lots of us 40+ mxers out there.

Ok, l age has nothing to do with it at all! It's the physical conditioning and mental attitude that controls this. I will be 70 shortly and I have an mx riding buddy that is pushing 77 and we still ride a lot, as we are both retired and we race from time to time.
My doctors love our physical conditioning, but mine too is concerned about our physical well being riding as he has a son that races a lot too. FYI: Our local track owner is also about 67 and he rides with us a lot and he races some big national vintage events and last year won his class championship.

So don't let age be the issue. Get as physical fit as possible, ride and have fun.

Broke through 17 years of rust and won D22 +40. Very satisfying to put in the focus and hard work and win.

My Dad is 56 and has just gotten back into it the last few years. I'll still be doing it when I get there. I think I'll still be doing it until I physically can't anymore. Even if its slower its still fun.

Quite a few fast 40+ dudes in my area.

I'll have to step my game up when, I'm old enough to race with those guys!

Paw Paw is pure motivation for all of us. Keep on riding, and keep it fun.

One of the fastest guys I ride MX with is 52. Early this year I rode woods with a 54 year old guy, and I DID NOT want the pace to be any faster.

Get after it, OP.

41 years old- Fastest mofo on the planet. I swept both outdoors 125 and 250 series plus 125 and 250 supercross series for a total of four number 1 plates that the AMA has me run all four at all times. First time it's ever been done. Been propositioned by every trophy girl, and meet the president ten times. Won the indy 500 on my CR500 by a minute and took the F1 cup with a Z50 Christmas special on regular 87 octane. Time magazine man of the year and people's sexiest man AND WOMAN I'm so good lookin. Kicked out a front flip while I jumped Ceasers on a 69 hard tail then got off and beat up Evil just for fun before taking the casino for ten million on black. What honey?..... I'm sleep typing again.....? AWWWWW FUCK

39 (maturity is probably 30 if I'm lucky) and feel as though my speed and fitness is as good as it ever has been. I mountain bike a ridiculous ton (900 miles and over 110k feet of climbing this year) and hit the gym 3-5 times a week. I don't even think about my age at any point. Don't really care.

I don't race much, but mostly because desert racing doesn't do much for me, but I will hit a select few in Montana, Idaho and Utah.

Been on a bike since early 80's. Been off for 2 years and it is driving me nuts. I just turned 40 and I have not owned a fuel injected bike yet. I have been riding an 05 crf450 and it has been a great bike until it started having some gremlins towards the end and I ended up with a broken hip which healed fast. I had plans of a new bike this year but my daughters schooling is expensive and the rest of life. The bad part is that I have never been this non active in my life. I have been pounding sodas and snikers bars like crazy since I quit riding. I keep telling myself to get back in shape but I have zero motivation with out riding. I used to run like Forest, wakeboard, surf, mtb, kiteboard etc non stop but it was all just to be in shape to ride and when the riding stopped, the rest seemed to stop. My 2014 new years resolution is to get back in the gym and a new bike. For some reason at 40 I still have the mind set to jump everything with in a few laps but after surfing some huge waves and realizing how out of shape I got and old I am after almost drowning a few times I may need to slow it down on the track too. I have recently started playing on my little pitbike track some and really plan on getting back to racing form. Maybe a new bike from Santa this year too. Woohoo
Sell one of the engines off that crazy ass boat of yours Dave and you could by a new bike lol.

I am in the same boat as most of the guys on here....Raced from 11 to 20 years old, went away to college, got into cars/streetbikes etc...but never lost interest in the sport. Got a CRF450 back in 2003 to go race a new thing called Supermoto...lol..Never made it past the MX track!!

I started out real slow, just getting used to 4 strokes and the new jump style MX tracks. Now im riding the A class and addicted to Moto...I'm 38 and feel like a kid.
Holy crap this post is old... Hope you went and bought a bike by now...lol

I've ridden dirtbikes over 45 yrs and raced on & off throughout that time.

40 was cake and raced as much as possible.
50 was/is the wall for me and I'm currently on my longest sabbatical from the track about 18 mo or so at 55.

Sad to say I don't miss it as much as I thought and been riding my FZ1 more than anything.

My KTM 520 EXC see's more action than my lonely ol CRF.

Two yrs ago at the tender age of 53, no plans to sell her and need to go back soon.

I'm right with you Gman, lots of racing in my 40's but now I'm 56 with no local tracks. Spent most of my summer on the 919 and now Mtn Biking when it's not 20 out.
Still enjoy a great ride with friends or even solo about as much as ever. Once I fix this wirst I might try dual sport again.

That sounds like a great idea seeing that I just had the winning fish in my Live well and it stopped working And I had to let my fish go before they died and found out we would of won by two pounds. Doh

I'm 44, and bought a barely used 2012 KX450F last year. I had been off an MX bike since 1994 but it's great to be back. I love every second of riding again, but love working on it almost as much.

Buying a bike got me living life again. Seems all I did is work. My only regret is not buying one again sooner. I had come close to buying one twice over the past 15 years but somehow the wife screwed it up by going back to college, losing her job, etc.

Live & learn.

I should have ditched her ass long ago and bought the bikes...LOL

Love this thread! Racing the 50+ class in D-41 has been blessing, it got my ass back in the gym, gave me a reason to work out hard again, and keeps me insane (sanity is for the weak). I just don't remember the tracks being so fast and the jumps so big, but what the heck, I'm still "back in the arena"! Heck, I even got to race against my sons this year, IN THE VETS CLASS!!!
