Yes...And that was with Canard out, Reed out, Dungey out, No Barcia...Etc...People were basically using the same argument for Millsaps finishing second in 2012 as they do for all of Dungey's championships..It was ONLY because everyone else was injured.
Did Dungey get the most points? I thought that was why he won the title. I always figured Millsaps got second because he got the second most amount of points but apparently there is a lot more to it. Since Villopoto won in 2012 did that make him more or less likely to win in 2013?

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you're reading what I typed, and not hearing it with any inflection.

Better summary of my opinion.

I don't count Reed out. People are using the same reasoning now as they did just a couple years ago why he can't succeed. Time will tell who's right.

Damn right Dungey earned his titles, but plenty of assholes try to discredit them because of other riders' injuries. Millsaps finished second and some assholes used similar reasoning to discredit his overall finish. I like to thing he proved them wrong with his riding in '13. I hope Reed can do the same. Doesn't have to win the championship to show that he's still a top rider.

I dont question Reed's desire, I question that at his age his ability to week in week out perform at the level he will need to be to beat the younger guys....in 2012 he had that desire and for a couple of unlucky crashes he could of won a title. that was 2 year ago...well ok over a year ago...we shall see if that desire is enough to win a SX or MX title in 2014.

With RV at the top of his game, Dungey and Millsaps always near the front, plus the Honda boys fit and hungry then it going to be a tough season unless you are 100% healthy and 100% fit and 100% injury free the whole season...

totally! young mans game here. you can only re invent yourself so many times getting around or after 30. when you watch villy going 55 mph around the top of the lip of an outside berm hanging off the back....no 30 yr old has the nut to pull those moves to be a winner. this ain't road racing here. death is around every corner and a guy worth 30-40 mill ain't going there anymore!

Like when he wasn't willing to push his suzuki outdoors & crashed up front? Or when he crashed his honda while chasing RV for the win during supercross last year? Or this year during supercross when he copped flak from the mx lords at vitall for riding over his head?

Yeah, I guess he is not willing to take those risks
Cash,

Funny you should mention his SX crash...because that event is specifically what my comments are based on. Since then, he has not been the same guy. Much like KDubb...with some of his bad crashes...I think that was a wake up call for Reed. He has not been the same guy since that happened, and there is NOTHING to indicate that is going to change. Just watch. He will be a P5-P10 guy most of the time.

I don't know if these rumors are true but I heard he might be thinking of trying TSM.
IF the AMA would let him run a factory 300cc Factory KTM/Husky that would so dam cool. I 100% believe a 300cc factory tuned 2 stroke could easily hang with 450's in supercross.

braap,
Sorry...but Reedy will not be a contender for the title...he will be lucky to podium now and again. It is a new day. To go the speed of the top guys...you have to be willing to take risks that Reedy is not willing to take. He would be NUTs if he were willing to take those risks. Because of his savy business moves (away from MX), he is by far the richest MXer ever. He does not need the money. He has already won titles. He has a family. He is still pretty healthy...and has a whole life ahead of him. He has as much as said he is there because he likes it, because it is fun. That is not the mindset of someone willing to risk it all.

Chad has over $50Mil in the bank. He made some VERY good investments over the years.

If that's true... He's brain dead to go risk it to ride around in 10th!! Hit the beach man with your kid before you Millville again ! Pull a RC... Take the money and run while you can still run.

haha i totally agree. except i think reed has too much pride, he wants to go out while he can still hang with the big dogs. and so i hope he actually can do that, or else he'll be 'back' for 2015 lol

Just curious, what's the threshold or amount for deciding when you have enough money to quit? If he still wants to do it then what's the problem?

Exactly, most of us ride and risk it all to and we don't get a dime for doing it either.

Turns out that riding dirt bikes is just a hell of a lot of fun!

Since we don't have Reed's unencrypted version, I'll offer my opinion.

I think Reed is in a wierd spot as a team owner. He doesn't want to hire a couple of riders to represent his team unless they can win. Perhaps Discount Tires or another major sponsor has made this stipulation All the riders that are considered "contenders" are signed already. So he can either fold up shop which he has said he doesn't want to do, or he can go give it hell and see how it goes and maybe snag a rider next silly season. Which I believe is what he is doing.

I am rooting for him but at the same time, a realistic expectation would be that he's in a spot KDub was in about a year or two ago just before he decided it was his time.

Does anyone know when his Honda contract expires?

Physicians are here too! If you haven't noticed lately, there is lots of folks seeking medical advice on Vital as well Cheerful

Now if I could just get political advice on Vital, this place would really be a one-stop shop.

Vital has that, too. Just visit the Non-Moto section.

since when was a rider judged on his ability to win a championship or not? Reed is a past champ, and was giving RV fits in 2012... if he starts winning again, cool. if he starts being a top 5-10 rider, cool. why can't the guy just put together a ride and give her hell, just because he fuckin' wants to?

this place is becoming unbearable

Yep you have to wonder why people come on a dirt bike message board and call someone brain dead for wanting to ride and race a dirt bike.

Reed really should just wrap himself up in cotton wool and go sit in the corner along with everyone else in the world who has kids I guess.

The fact Reed is so rich and still wants to race and run his own team shows how much he loves the sport. I think it is awesome he is still out there. Looking forward to seeing him ride again at A3 and San Diego.

I think it's just hard to imagine a healthy Reed not fighting for a podium. He's been at or near the top spot since he's been in the states.
