Was doing my daily skim on craigslist and came across this gem. Anyone willing to spend $4200?

I sold my lightly used '98 for $900. Certainly hope they aren't worth anywhere close to $4200.

There is no market for used dirtbikes, especially antiques..the most expensive ones are worth about 10K, nothing to write home about.

I think this bike is worth $2000 tops...

To this day, probably the best 250cc engine ever. 98 KX250!

Opinions differ but I feel that the 97-98 CR250 was the best engine....of the 90's. It's too bad it was bolted in the worst frame ever.

I would like to have the KX though for a showpiece.

It's cool that it's never been used, but it's pointless to sell it. He's not going to get even half of 4200. Might as well keep it in the family for a few more decades until it's a real piece of collector's material.

Price may be unrealistic but jeez... what a bike! I'd love to get my hands on something like that.

You got taken on that one. I just sold my 2000 kx250 that was more than "lightly used" for $1700

It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. There are people that would spend $4k for an unused 98 KX250, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone was willing to go higher if there was a bidding war.

id say 2500 at least. hell 2006 and up yz125s are going for 2500 right now if they are clean and those are dime a dozen. if you were a kawi guy that would be a nice bike to have

If someone were to buy one to "restore" they could easily have that much total into it........Might be worth it to start new?

I had a 97 and a 98 kx 250 and they were really good bikes, that machine would be competitive today in amatuer classes...really good suspenders bottom to mid motor that would rip out of turns but needed short shifted..Loved it till I rode a budies 98 yz 400f 4 stroke for the first time and within 2 laps was 2 seconds a lap faster on the thing. Bought a new yamaha the next day.

True , but im sure the number of people who are willing to drop that much coin for that bike is slim , if it was a 92 in that condition i would probably be looking at my savings account and getting a road trip planned , i always loved them blue fork KXs

Wow, that thing is showroom condition. I bet he gets close to it, 3500 isnt bad for a brand new bike.

I agree the 98 kx250 engine was a blast i had alot of fun on those late nineties kx's. i didn't like the ergos or the handling so much but who cared that motor ripped and was a fun bike to ride imo haha.

I had a 92 KX250, and I would tell you to keep the money in the bank. While it was a good bike, the engine was a bit soft, the bike was tall, it was an ocean liner in the corners and the frame would develop cracks just by looking at it. The bike looked good though, with the blue forks and graphics.

I have a 95 KX250 in the garage right now with a Mike LaRocco SX motor from 1994 in it. The 94-98 KX250s were some of the best bikes out they produced. The ergos were perfect, the motors were strong, especially the 98 and the suspension once dialed in was amazing. While I wouldn't pay $4200 for that 98...I would plunk down some money for that thing if he was willing to negotiate.

Not a 98'....but my 99'. Tom Morgan built motor....and probably the best damn bike I ever owned.

On a side note : NO....that mint 98' isn't worth any where close to $4200.00. But it's always worth what someone is will to pay.

You guys must not understand the value of collectibles, or were sleeping through economics class. It's not a motorcycle as long is it isn't ridden, it's a commodity. Economics 101... a commodity is worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and someone out there is willing to pay a lot of dough for a mint, unused 98 KX250.
