I never could breathe with one.
You might have had it too tight, says Captain Obvious, as some brands are difficult to detect while getting dressed. Mine is so comfy, I can get it too snug, easily.

Mine was a salvation on a holeshot(yes I was first) I low-sided and a very hot CR450 laid on top of me and melted my pants, jersey and partly into my kidney belt.

That rider always mentions you can read "FOX" on his header pipeWhistling

I wear two kidney belts, but have to since my disks are wasted.

I work out often and always work abs, but if I ride w/o them the pain kicks my ass for at least a week.

The shitty part is I've now reached my "life time maximum benefit" for chiropractic care. All cash from here on out, no more insurance. The doc says all the years of pounding the spine have caused the disks to swell. It looks freaky in the x-rays, like callous.

Haven't quit riding/racing though. May soon, but not yet.

I wear one. I have strong abs, but my back still gets more sore if I ride without it.

I forgot mine at a TT race, said screw it... it's only a TT race.

Wow that was a HUGE mistake, thought about the pissing blood thing for 4 days till it settled down. Believe me that is as uncomfortable a feeling as you'll want, and you cannot get into any position to alieviate it.

Never ride without one since.

Can't help but notice when I race these day's that I seem to be the only one that still wears a kidney belt. I have always wore one and like the lower back support they offer, anybody still wear one?
Myself and my 3 racers wear them.

Always have always will, specially on the vintage bikes with short travel..helps keep everything in place on those hard hits.. maybe on the modern bikes with the super suspension now days you see guys not needing them so much but for us older guys the extra support is a benefit even if you are in decent physical condition.

I used to wear one. Suspension just got so good, and I started going slower it just phased out of my gear. Even after a few solid days of riding it doesn't bother me.

Tried riding without one once, didn't feel right, guess I'm just so used to riding with one.

Why do trainers do things differently and say different things depending on who you ask? Just curious - since we're not supposed to doubt you at all because you've "got a degree" and all.

I've talked to PLENTY of personal trainers - enough to know that there's definitive end-all answers when it comes to the human body. But I believe you're 100% correct for sure, after all - you WERE a personal trainer for a couple years.

It all depends on whether or not you have a nose ring.

If nose ring installation is confirmed, then you are in business.

I rode/raced with one for twenty years, stopped wearing one ten years ago and have no ill effects.

Shoulder pads, knee braces, kidney belts, etc. all come "in favor" then can also go "out of favor" with the top riders. Who knows even the Leatt type brace may not catch on with the masses.

i ride with one as much as possible not becuz my back needs support or anything like that but ive heard stories about pissing blood and the kidneys being tossed around and stuff so i wear one for that reason and that reason only. when i do ride without it i do not notice any difference but as with most protective gear id rather be safe than sorry....

IMO, Modern suspension absorbs the small hits so well, you dont need to wear one anymore!

Wow that's dedication my friend, might want to trail ride more.

Nice Helmet btw.....Woohoo

Regarding Kidney belts, I would never ride w/o one and have been riding for about 40yrs. I have one of those old AXO ones that were actually really good.

Regarding Pro's not wearing one is mostly a fashion statement. Look at how many don't wear chest/back protectors either as it would cover up their cool Lycra jersey....

Wore one for awhile, then dumped it.....My big question not being a doc or anything is how the hell is a little piece of spandex around your waist going to hold your kidneys in place? Figuring that your kidneys are basicly floating around in your body.....They do support your back muscles and it does help warm those muscles up if my back is stiff

I have always worn one - Gold Belt - AXO - Kev-Co/Stubbs

I always hated the plastic AXO belt - until I took a footpeg to the kidney in a first-turn crash. The thing was completely cut up. It could have been my back.

When AXO went away, I bought a Kev-Co/Stubbs belt on the recommendation of Ty Davis. No plastic, but it's a sweet kidney belt.

Check it out, if you're so inclined.

Yeah man, I hear ya. The toll my back has taken has me seriously thinking about only racing benefit races and otherwise just play riding.

At 44 it hadn't hit me until this year. I'm starting to accept that I can't ride WFO all the time.

Right on about the helmet, good choice! thumbs up

They don't. You don't think a footpeg or roost or handlebar is actually going to puncture your flesh, deep tissue and make it to a kidney do ya? No way. A hard get off, kidney belt or not could possibly cause a laceration (kidney belt would not aid in protection of this). Also, the only support it offers is a manual tightening of the core, where your rectus abdominis, internal and external obliquus and erector spinaii are too weak to do it without the belt. With a properly strengthened core, you won't piss blood after a long ride unless you have other medical issues....

Ever since moving to the 450F (from a 250T), and working cardio and core 3 days a week, I don't need it anymore. Used to always ride with it, and would be incredibly sore for the 2 days after a ride if i didn't wear it. My first ride without it (2 months ago) i couldn't believe the "liberated" feeling of riding the bike. I could move around alot easier, and found it easier to settle into the top of the seat in corners.

It has since wore a groove into the bottom of my gear bag.

I always wear one. Not because of the back support, but for extra protection. I also wear elbow guards, chest protector (w/upper arm guards), hip pads, and a good set of shin guards. Next will be a Leatt.

The more protection the better. I intend on riding a lot longer (at least through great-grandkids).

I quit wearing one about six years ago and just bought one last year
and started wearing it again. Yes I do feel better with one on. I
also feel hotter but that's good old FL heat and humidity for you.

don't need the support. but after forgetting it one time and getting flipped off onto my back and hitting a rock, i figured i would keep wearing it for the lower back protection. dont need another hemotoma the size of a nerf football for 3 weeks.

I remember at my first race ever. 2nd moto I went down hard after getting 2nd off the gate and 1/2 the pack(it seemed) ran over me. Bike was munged up and so was my body. Ripped my kidney belt in half. I remember laying there mad as hell and swearing....looked up and there were 5-6 little kids standind by the fence....ooops!
