I will race even when they have to help me on the bike at the start line. By that time I will ride a lowered KTM300 two-stroke w/electric start and a Rekluse clutch.
PS- Thanks ak23 for starting this thread. Refreshing in comparison to recent Vital trends, imo.
Any racing I did ended Oct. 16 2004
All MX track play-racing or riding ended Jan. 15 2006
Trail ride only, and thrilled I get to do that.
I'm 54 and had to get out of it in 2008. I am playing around with post vintage bikes and have a really dialed in YZ465. I will be back in it in a year or so. I feel like I have some unfinished business having to get out for a while due to injury. I haven't seen anyone mention it but I like the guys I was racing with, good people to hang out with.
i remember some old dog on a yz426 used to come down to raceway and he would blow up berms all day

what great inspiration!!!!!! I'm convinced - keep doin it- guess I'm goin to the track sunday, practice at least. I gotta get the 'feeling like a loser for not doubling' feeling out of my head. This crash my buddy had a couple weeks ago really got in my head, he was a fantastic rider jumping 40-50 dbles all day and slipped on a 20' tabletop and is now in a wheel chair and i happened to b behind him and saw the crash. i guess u just think about things differently when ur 49 and other people rely on u. thx for all the great inspiration!!!! and stories.
i gotta say now that i sold my crf450 and got a zy250 - the fun doubled when your just riding for fun
I was still advancing, pushing, getting faster, and was riding at a high level just 1 year ago when I broke my back. I'm still riding but I'm just not the same rider. YET!
Ride with a smile on your face.
Dirtbikemike
This guy is 80+ and still race, mostly the race is to the first turn and then they cruise and was racing before they called it motocross!
Tracks , offroad.....it doesn't matter man.........as long as it puts a smile on your face.
Pit Row
Although now i am just hitting the Vintage scene.
Here is a guy who still rides all the time here in Perth, 83 year old Bill Watson
I will also say that the older I get the more it helps to stretch and do some training it has helped dramatically with the injurious and aches and pains that come with getting older.
Best thing I can say is race with guys your age, were all in the same boat. Used to go out with the non age group classes to get more races in but those guys were going to hurt me. Not cause I was faster or better then them. But wiser and way more experienced. Race within your means. Guys like Feets Minert inspire me keep on going for at least another 25.
