So this is my speculation, most riders are sick of James no holds bar riding style (which argueably or not makes him the 'fastest rider' as some attest to) which when he crashes he takes out other riders (as witnessed this season)...so perhaps KW had had enough and confronted JS about it?

Most fans will defend JS and say 'racing incident, move on' but perhaps the riders themselves have had enough?

:-)
Ask Preston how he feels about JS, or just listen to some of the past interviews out there lol

I have always loved this argument. Since K-Dub lives the same life that we are all jealous of, how come not a single MX fan hates on him? Why is it that all the "haters" choose to hate on Stewart, when every one of these guys has a life we're jealous of? Why did RC become a beloved figure even as he dominated like no other? Shouldn't the hate been great on him, winning for 10 damn years straight? Funny how RC, MC, Fro, O'Mara and other all-time greats are at the banquet and James isn't. I'd love to know how many retired stars were there enjoying the sport they love while James is snubbing every last one of them. James has the ability to turn the public opinion of him around, but he is content with not giving a shit about any of it. He has continued down the road of doing his own thing and that's fine, he seems to have made a choice of how he is going to live. Why defend it? His fans should just stop defending him altogether, because he really doesn't give a crap about any of them either.

Wow, 9 pages. I guess I hit a nerve starting this thread. The guys on the Pulp show talked about this last night and took it as a snub. My word. Check it out at about 27 minutes in. So that would be JT$ and Kenny Watson, two people in the industry didn't like it. Not just some of us peons.

It's the rider's choice.
If there is no obligation to go, he doesn't have to go.

The rider's non-attendance will have absolutely no effect on you, me or anyone else on here.
If you say you would, I'll take your word on it. The only thing is that I don't think any other rider of similar calibre would skip it and then sit outside gambling like that.

It was meant as a snub and people in the industry take it for that. If James didn't mean it as a snub, he would have gone just to avoid that thought creeping into people's heads, or have come up with a viable excuse..... not sit right outside gambling. Just like we all do shit that we don't want to do and don't have to do, yet we still do to avoid looking like a shithead in other people's eyes. And this is trivial bullshit like insulting a neighbor or something, not public relations for our multi-million dollar athletic career. It needs no defending as James certainly seems to have been making a statement, snub, or whatever intentionally. Certainly he had more than one person telling him how it would look if he didn't go. Yet he didn't go. Who's fault is it that James catches shit for decisions like this? Maybe he doesn't care if he catches shit. He certainly acts like he cares once he does start catching shit.

The Hard Rock Casino is a shoebox.
Anywhere you go in that casino and play would be easily visible from anywhere else.
It's a small (in Las Vegas terms) round casino

It would be one thing for him to just not attend... you're right, of course he doesn't have to go. However, if what people are saying is correct, and he was sitting outside gambling during the event, a banquet for the sport in which he is arguably the biggest name rider at this time. Well, that really seems like he's trying to make a statement... I don't know what the statement is, but, a statement none the less.

Why not go somewhere else? Very strange.

Prediction on Stewarts summer..... James shows up to Hangtown, qualifies first, then comes out in the first moto and gets beat. He doesnt race the next moto and we arent given a reason. Then Thursday before the next round he bows out of the series completely blaming it on an injury he suffered at Vegas that he cannot get over and says he may try to come back for the last four "for the fans and his sponsors". We hold our breath until before said comeback round it comes out the he wont be racing again until that Vegas thing in October (he wont be missing that potential payday). Then we all get excited and post 20 pages because we find out that it will be the first race we see him on a Honda (or some other brand.) Point being that he wont be on a yamaha next year. no way. it will segway into him doing an interview in the future where he blames all the crashes this season on the bike.

wow typical stewart thread something slightly negative about him and the huggers defending to the death

in my opinion it was a snub especially to villopoto and the other guys who he was racing against all year.. lets fast forward to next year and suppose stewart wins the title and poto, reed, dungey, canard and windy just sit outside and gamble i suppose stewart would be alright with that?

and i thought it was a bit shit to make or expect his mechanic to go to something he couldn't be bothered with, to pick up HIS cheque...

let it be known this doesn't effect me in any way, i don't think he owes me anything just what i think he should have done and what i would like to think i would do if it was me

If I were his manager, I would hire a PhD sports psychologist. This isn't to say he has some personality flaw, or mental disorder, but he really needs a different mindset if he ever wants to win a title again (one you will never get from a team manager, former pro sidekick, or an over-inflating ego-boosting entourage). James, without a doubt, needs to evaluate some of his core beliefs about racing and himself. What has worked since his days as an amateur are no longer working with guys just as fast as him.

From my perspective, James' main problem this year seemed to be trying to prove to the competition that he is the best, rather than being humble, taking some losses, and not putting himself out of the championship. There's nothing wrong with him, if any of us went 98% of our lives on a dirt bike with his type of dominance, accepting defeat more than winning would be a very unsettling experience.

If he wants to keep trying to prove that he is occasionally the best, by setting the fastest practice laps in the first session of practice, setting the fastest race laps more often the not in the main, winning occasionally, and crashing his brains out; he should stick with his current approach. If he wants to win another championship against a field with as much talent as him for the first time in his life, he needs a different mindset. On a side note: RV2 mentioned going into Vegas that he was used to pressure since he grew up being second best during his amateur career.

Not to bash, but it makes perfect sense why James is the way he is: he has gone practically his entire life being significantly faster than his competition, which gave him plenty of experience passing, but it also didn't provide much experience racing under pressure from the competition. One thing that bit him in the ass big time this year was failing to realize these other guys are on his level. He feels comfortable when he has a six to sixty second lead on the competition, because that's the kind of lead he has pulled most of his career. We saw it in Vegas this past weekend: K-dub was on his ass and it caused him to push harder. By not being at the award banquet he was choosing not to acknowledge or face the reality that he was not the best this year.

WOW!!! This topic pops up a day ago and one thing constant remains. One person is commenting on this every hour like its his job. Is someone running for Florida Mayor? Has Sorby been deported back to France or is JS7 taking applications for Team Mgr? Is Paggio out of a job, perhaps Aldon fired? One person is taking on all comers in a fight to the death defense of all things Stewart. Holy shit, Stewart has a new internet secret service MX forum agent. Let it be, let it be, seeking words of wisdom..... let it be.

I made it to the first sentence: "If I were his manager, I would hire a PhD sports psychologist." Looked over at the user name, and thought, "Well no shit you would..." and stopped reading.

I'd say you have hit the nail on the head 599!

PS - Regardless if JS was required to go or not, it's a respect thing towards your fellow competitors, your sport and the organization you race for. Poor choice for James in my opinion, and we all know about opinions!

Should the riders show to the year end banquet for their sport - yes

Was it disrespectful to your competitors and other participants and employees of the sport - yes

Should you be gambling outside the banquet displaying a total lack of respect for the others who did attend- no

Do you have to go - no, however in Nascar and Formula 1 you better damn well show up to events like this or be seriously fined. Each of these sports have protocols and requirements even for something as small as procedures and etiquette on the podium.

Is it the end of the world - no

And there was a time when they called K-dub the "Tin Man" because he rode with no heart- (I say they because I never believed that-) But look at him now...He's a legend

For what it's worth Kdub has kids and a wife now- Probably was all siked to get a night out with the little lady and wasn't going to let a little bruised spleen get in the way!
