We are very sad. We listen to him regularly and i play his songs daily on guitar. Saw him at lollaploluzza 1 with soundgarden and temple of the dog,
years later as Soundgarden and then audioslave and linkin park and recently chris alone acoustcally at our local amphitheatre. Really bummed. RIP
Such a shame. I'm gutted. Soundgarden never really grew on me but Temple of the Dog and Audioslave I love.
I saw Audioslave at a festival in 2003, they closed it on the Sunday. Now, a few days before this festival started I got drunk with some friends of mine, and being the 18 year old nob I was decided to go outside with no trainers on, in fact, I was completely naked lol, my mates thought at that point it would be funny to lock the front door so I couldn't get back in, I would of done the same to them to be fair, so I had no choice but to run around to the back door to try and get back in the house, it was pitch black and I forgot about an empty fish tank that was at the side of the house. I ran straight through that bastard bare footed and it cut my feet to shreds lol
I didn't move much at the festival as you can imagine, I was lucky to even be there! And I remember before Audioslave came on it was pissing down. The day was just miserable. But then they started playing. I forgot about the rain, I forgot about my feet and lost my mind along with the other 60,000 people or so that were there. To this day that set they played is one of my all time favourite live music experiences. It was unbelievable and I'm gutted he's gone. But his legacy will live on forever. And so will the memories that he made for everyone. Thanks Chris, RIP sir!
Shocking! WTF? Another successful musician that seemed to have it all and then this. Just goes to show that mental health and well being is as important as, or more so, then anything else. It makes me think of the rich people living on top of the hill that are unhappy and miserable....and then the homeless people living under a bridge surrounded by friends and loved ones with a happy outlook on life. Sometimes life just doesn't make sense.
On another note: I saw Soundgarden open for Linkin Park many years ago. Cornell was a captivating front man, and when he came back out with Linkin Park and did a duet of Hungerstrike (a Pearl Jam/Soundgarden tribute to Mother Love Bone's Andrew Wood) with Chester Bennington it gave me goosebumps when Cornell hit those high notes so fucking perfect. A stage presence that will truly be missed. Condolences to his friends, loved ones and family!
There's chatter his death was possibly due to Auto-erotic Asphyxiation. So strange that he was in good spirits at last nights concert talking about playing their next show, then 3 hours later, this. With how happy he was to be traveling with his band again and doing great shows, it seems highly unlikely his death was intentional.
We'll see what additional reports say, but what a sad day. This guy had a voice like no other. Very few have that instrumental voice such as Maynard Keenan, Robert Plant, Kurt Cobain and most definitely Chris Cornell. R.I.P.
I was in music school in the '90s when the whole Seattle thing exploded. I still remember the Superunknown album release party at the local bar... it was the KROQ party at Live Bait in Long Beach. I could tell it was going to be huge.

I think your third sentence (mental health/well being) is grossly underrated and under-appreciated by society. Mental health is so important.

Have you ever listened to his music? it never seemed like music a happy person would write to me. The last song he sang was Zeppelin cover "In my Time of Dying" Seems like it was on his mind and would be a very strange coincidence if it was unintentional. but hey don't let that stop you from writing a CSI script for them.

Soundgarden opened for Linkin Park? That's like the Rolling Stones opening for Dexy's Midnight Runners, or Led Zeppelin opening for Mungo Jerry..........!

He tweeted out "Detroit finally back to Rock City" last night. Then this.

Saw Soundgarden several times.. he seemed to be one of the more level frontmen of that era,,
