My dad bought it new in 86 and I got it when I turned 15.5 (permit age in CA) in 2011. 22r, 5 speed, no power steal but does have AC that I got working again after a couple summers of sweating my ass offLaughing . I’ve been gentle as hell on it since he beat on it so much back in the day and it’s still going at over 250k, although it’s been relegated to grocery getting and around town duties since I got my van a couple years ago. I still absolutely love driving the thing, the simplicity of it all puts a smile on my face and ever since I was old enough to have any idea what was going on I always thought it was one of the best looking trucks ever made. I learned to drive the thing when I was like 13 packing in mini bike and bmx jumps in our backyard, it was great! Somewhere I have a picture of me driving it around and all you can see is the top of my hat over the dashboard, I was short as hellLaughing

May not have been the coolest vehicle in school but I gave zero fucks, it’s got history for days. . .



My brother had an '88 that looked almost exactly like yours, but it was only a 2WD. He drove that damn thing to almost 300K miles before he got rid of it.

I had a 57 just like this in competition orange that my dad bought me for $125 when i was 14. We worked together restoring it for the next two years. I cried when he brought it home because it was so old and ugly, I couldn't see the potential. After we rebuilt the 283, painted it orange and put the new tires and wheels on it I thought I was just as cool as the rich kids in their muscle cars. Besides, my mom had a red 69 SS Camaro with a 375hp 396 that I got to drive every once in awhile.

As soon as I got my license on my 16th birthday I had saved up enough to buy a 1962 VW van. Chocolate brown, no side windows, big fat wheels n tires on the back of course back in 1975. The doors wouldn’t lock so the HS kids soon knew about that and it is where a bunch of them would go to smoke joints while ditching class. Every time I got into that thing to go to lunch or home a huge plume of reefer smoke would flow out. Reminded me of Fast times at Ridgemont high. Only kept it a year or so after it tried its best to kill me a couple of times. I’d load up my Bultaco Pursang and go to the So Cal night races. One night on the way home blasting down the freeway the fuse blew and the lights went completely out. It was dark as shit heading into Palm Springs around midnight and it was all I could do to keep it on the pavement. Used foil to fix the fuse and got home. The next time I was doing about 60 and heard a huge clank, went to hit the brakes and they went to the floor. Had to ditch it into the desert to avoid traffic slowing in front of me. A week or two after that I got rid of it. Wish I had it now but those things are waaaay overpriced nowadays

1971 Datsun 510. A little lighter red than this one and chrome wheels. Drove the bag off that little car on and off road. Super easy to work on. Too bad most of them have rusted away.

Here's a big surprise my first car was a 72 beige Econoline van that looked like this.
It was a hand-me-down work van from my dad that I bought from him.
Three on the tree baby.


But it worked great for delivering newspapers in downtown LA and hauling dirt bikes as I could fit three in there.
It hooked me for life as far as owning a van 44 yrs later.

Never been without one I'm on Van #6 Cool

First pickup I drove was my Dad’s white ‘67 F250 at 16 in high school. 390 manual 4-speed w/granny low. That thing was a beast.

When I graduated college, first pickup I ever purchased was a 2-year old ‘89 Ranger. 4x4 V6 manual 5-speed with an extra cab. Loved that pickup. Plenty of moto excursions, commutes, and had fun with it down at Pismo Beach too.

Funny story, was at my sister’s college graduation in 1994 at Chico State. Friend of hers was graduating too. We were all walking through the parking lot and her friend asks me “Is that your truck?” Yes, I replied. She then asks “What color is that?” I answered it’s beige I guess, but Ford calls it sandlewood. At that very moment, I knew it was looking good for me and my sister’s friend. She asked me the color of my truck!

One thing led to another and we’ve been married for 21 years now. We still kid around about when we met up there and the color of that Ranger. Smile

(Was a lead transport vehicle) We four wheeled most weekends and i beat the hell out of it. Had the 2.2 engine it so was decent on fuel as well. Was Perfect for me at 16. I wish I had one now actually as a daily driver. some drunk ended up rear ending me getting on the highway and she was sadly totaled.

My first was a 93 extra cab. Wish I never would’ve sold it. By far the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Tires and oil changes were all it ever needed.

I used to make the passenger in the middle shift.

It was a jumping machine. I got about 5' of air numerous times at our old riding spot.
