Testing Adderall?

Edited Date/Time 6/28/2017 9:10pm
Anyone ever tried a moto without adderall and then a moto with? Or have a kid the didn't use it and then did use it? Just want to know if it really is a performance boost. I'm not thinking of trying it, heck I don't like even taking Tylenol, just wondering.

With a good number of people in our society being diagnosed with ADD/ADHD these days, it makes sense that that number would include professional motocross racers. That these guys, who take this stuff daily to "normalize" their ability to focus & concentrate should be penalized for it is stupid on a huge scale.

Lol, I have friends who have used it and claimed it made them better etc. More focused obviously. I tried it one time during a off road race and was alot slower because I focused on too many details and over thought things. Didnt like how I felt either. First and only time I have ever done something like that while riding and it wasnt for me, just like guys who blaze before riding, not for me either. Just my 2 cents.

TRT is becoming a much more common thing for 'Hormone Deficiency' as well, like all these other diagnosees you have to question the legitimacy.

The U.S. Air Force has a very long history of policy supplying a very similar amphetamine to improve the performance of its fighter pilots. I imagine that such military policy was not enacted without testing of the particular performance benefits. I would also guess that a lot of the same basic mental activity that is used in air combat is also at play in our sport.

I used to take it when I was younger. I actually would not take it on race day cause I was much slower on the meds. I would ride smooth and careful instead of WF0.

Does anyone know what pro riders ride with Adderall currently?

Although I haven't tried it to race/ride, Adderall is an extremely potent PED for any sport/activity where increased concentration could yield better results. Think timing supercross rhythms, navigating ruts on a downhill, etc. but also completely different activities such as darts, chess or doctors performing long and complex surgeries.

That said, since it is a cognitive drug, results are highly individual and the drug can have a completely different effect if taken by people with ADHD/ADD or people with 'normal' levels of focus.

I tried it once to study for an exam and it was retarded. I probably processed double the information than I could have without taking it. But I did (unknowingly) take a fairly large dose because the guy that gave it to me had severe ADHD. There is no doubt in my mind it would be a huge benefit for me if I took it for riding/racing.

Why does this thread even exist? Why not just ask what it's like to ride while high on regular illegal drugs. Apparently, adderall was illegal enough to ruin JS's career. If someone's offering it to you, then you're engaging in illegal activity. Why ask? Stupid

That's not really true. Those rules do not govern amateur competition. If an amateur rider can get a script, I don't see that it presents any legal or rules issue.

Took it as a kid made me feel like a zombie. Had no appetite, wouldn't talk to anyone, and just plain felt terrible. I hated that stuff

It has a lot to do with staying focused during a 10+ hour flight

But I take it as I am perscribed it, (oohh druggie over here) and it does help my focus significantly.. couldn't say it makes me a more skilled rider but it keeps me from thinking about random stuff while riding. I crash waayy less now that I take it when I ride, which IMO is worth it for that effect alone.

I know HIPAA prevents them from individually identifying who is on what...but I would like to know how many TUE's are filed each year for MX and SX. Is that not a valid question? And possibly for what drugs? As long as they don't identify the riders specifically, why can't they release that?

Would that potentially change people's views? If we knew multiple riders had the TUE for the same drugs?

Forreal. Im willing to bet $3.50 that a bunch of the top riders take something but have a TUE for it.

I dont understand why all the sudden its not cheating if you simply fill out a form. You are still taking the exact same thing if you were "doping" but now you arent "doping" because you told them about and they said it was ok.

And we should probably also not use the word "doping" for a lot of these banned substances because actual doping is a significantly different thing than taking Adderall. Its not anywhere near the same thing

Same here!

My roommate's Dad was a OBGYN and could get him basically what ever prescription he wanted...within reason. My roommate got some Adderall to help with exams and asked me if i wanted to try it. I was reluctant at first, but then decided to try it. He didnt know how much we were supposed to take, turns out we took twice the recommended dose. HOLY FUCK!!!!!! I was in hyperdrive, listening to everything the teacher said, while my spidey sense was honing in on the birds chirping outside, and the kid behind me flipping his pencil! Absolutely the most insane experience I have ever had. I comprehended everything the teacher was going over and I was answering every question. I will say that the crash at the end of the day was rough, I felt absolutely horrible. Had no appetite, and felt like I was going to die!

I could only imagine what it would have been like if I was riding while on Adderall.

Youd be better off drinking a few cups of coffee before riding. Caffeine is good at making you focus.

I have a prescription for it and I can't tell a difference on race day. If anything, I get a little more arm pump so I avoid it on race day. That being said, I've heard that if someone has ADHD, they won't feel the high, they'll just feel normal. So if someone without ADHD took it, maybe it does help. Now, Xanax is another story. That's the best arm pump medicine that I've ever taken.

Hitlers army was on it (different name back then, same recipe) when they had plans to take over the world. It's a concentration and energy boost. If they let one rider take it then they should make it available to all. Dr prescription means nothing.....they prescribe opiates so does that mean we want the field drugged up on those to relieve tension/pain?

Don't let their defense fool you. Here is just 1 result with some info about it from a quick bing search. It is widely used for cheating, period. There is probably better things to read about it then this one but there is a little info in this. Finding a Dr to give them a prescription for it doesn't mean they truly need it either. Just cheating the system for false performance enhancement.

Got a kid here that has ADD and was pretty wild on the bike. He got in trouble in school and his mom demanded that he started using prescribed medicin.
I have no idea what he got from the hospital, but he slowed down big time, 2-5 seconds a lap easily.
His dad got pissed about it thats for sure Laughing

I've tried Adderall and Vyvance before moto. I wouldn't say its performance enhancing, but it always made me more focused, fwiw.

Isn't caffeine on the banned substance list in certain disciplines? Don't know about mx

as per the responses above, it affects people differently. one person I know said they thought it helped at times but other times thought it did nothing. another swears by it. I'd assume some people it has placebo effect on, IMO the second guy, he swears it helps but his results are still pretty much the same as they were before.

You have to assume there are/have been pro SX/MX racers with ADHD (ADD) that don't take aderall. I'd bet money on it. With that said, I have ADHD myself and have never taken the "zombie pill" that it really is. Friends growing up let it change their personality completely, something my parents and I were never willing to do just because I was against sitting still for five minutes.

Bottom line is it's a drug, it is illegally sold by high school and college kids for help with "studying" and that alone should be enough to make you question the legitimacy of "needing" it. Whether or not one may "need" it (to which opinions vary), it is something being taken that alters the state of mind. I'm very much against it for any person let alone MX athletes. Even though he wasn't winning I'm very glad the FIM enforced this.

I have some roommates that have prescriptions. I grab a couple every weekend, and usually take one before I ride. If you don't take them regularly, they basically give you a huge boost of energy, dependent if its a extended release or quick release pill. I don't race, and I don't ride long moto's, so the side effects aren't really an issue with me.

What it does for me, as someone who's not prescribed the medicine, it gives me a lot (A LOT, as in you will want to whip through your honey do list without stopping) of energy and a bit more focus.

The side effects for me, is elevated heart rate, and dehydrates me a lot faster than normal. But like I said, I'm just a weekend practice warrior, so it's not really a problem...

It also works really well in the bedroom, unless you want to sleep..Wink
