Spin-off of Gnarliest guy on a dirt bike that is a very broad Question no Doubt, and To me personally that answer Is
Travis Pastrana.
But Who is The Gnarliest MX racer, I'm sure this answer will very by generation , and By wins , but who is the winning-est
Is kind of a different question.
So who do you Got specifically For MX racing ?
And why?

Herlings trying to win a title with a broken femur is pretty gnarly. Winning moto 1 with a broken ankle then coming off the bike and telling your mechanics that you can't race the second moto because you've just broken your ankle is gnarly too.

Got the chance to watch Barcia at a local race. Believe it was during his last season in 250s. He rode a 250 and 450 against some blazing fast, up and coming amateurs.../ absolutely murdered the class! Simply could not understand how someone could ride a bike that fast! I’m pretty sure some of the guys leaving had second thoughts on there career of choice. Not to mention, he didn’t leave one kid/adult left out to dry that way wanted a picture or autograph.

If gnarly is anything close to crazy... then I'd say Magoo. Most entertaining to watch due to the stuff he'd attempt to do. When he was on it, he was on it! As MXA said back in the day, Danny's family car was an ambulance.

Herlings is Gnarly.

On track especially in the sand and with injury.

Trying to win a title with a broken femur.
Winning MXGP with a broken ankle.
Winning races a week after a collarbone injury (13 or 14)
Winning a MXGP 2 weeks after collarbone surgery(last year)
Winning GP Lierop with a injuried shoulder.
Winning GP of Loket 2 weeks after his horrible car incident at GP of Russia.

That’s pretty gnarly and badass if you ask me.

Jumping a quad on a 125 that even the Goat wouldn't do on a 250 is pretty fuckin gnarly IMO

Got to go with Herlings, haven’t heard of another rider going for a title with a femur held together with screws (I may well be corrected).
Doug Henry and Pourcel coming back from serious back injuries get a close joint second.

My vote would be any of the front runners in Europe before 1977 and the dawn of long travel suspension.

I Have thick Skin so it Doesn't really Bother me to get Thumbs down But just out of curiosity is there something I'm missing?
I have no clue why people would thumbs down this?
Is it because there was already a who's the knarliest on a Dirt bike thread?
To Me Knarliest on a Dirt bike and knarliest Racer are Different

I haven't thought of Rex in a long while, but I agree he was a true bad a#$ on a bike. Had to grow up in that era to truly understand the type of guy he was.

Besides the obvious mentions like Ryno And Henry. An honorable mention has to be given to Kiniry. He is the original Bob “Gnarly”. Tough as nails this guy. And a scrapper when we were kids he was just as good at wrestling as he was motocross. He could of gone either way with his career and been successful
