Hey guys I have decided to buy a 2016 350 SXF.
I'm in Hawaii and I'm being told they won't have the '16's here until October. That, and they don't deal at all, plus charge you $500 to assemble the bike.
Sooooo, I'd like to see about buying a crated bike and just shipping it here. It's only about $400 to get a crated bike here from Oakland, CA.
Does anyone know any dealers that will make me a good deal on a crated bike?

I have heard that Munn KTM will with out any issues and ship it for you too, send them an email and see what they can do for you!

Back in '12 when I bought my 150 I posted pictures of it in the crate on my truck. I was in contact with my dealer a couple days latter and he asked if I posted pictures of it because KTM found out and he was "scolded" for selling a crated bike. Seems like it was frowned upon but guess it's OK for bigger dealers to do it?

Yeah, it happens but not supposed to.

There is a stronger argument for buyers that are well known by the dealers and will immediately strip the bike down to grease, make modifications, and have to knowledge to reassemble the bike correctly.

KTM is very good about honoring their limited warranty and selling a crated bike becomes an issue on this as well as any other liability issues from a buyer assembling their own bike.

Basically if you find one willing to do it, keep it in the down low.

I'm not sure I would admit that. I think KTM frowns upon that and it could get Munn in trouble.

Crated bikes are un-crated and the dealer assembles and services the bike. Re-crates and ships to youWhistling Wink

I've bought many "crated" bikes over the years......

Everyone frowns on it, they are divided in territories. So when a crate shows up from another territory, that dealer lost a sale that is supposed to be protected by the manufacturer. Some are serious about it, others only when caught.

I got my KTM in the crate, just asked for it that way lol.

The dealer and I opened the crate in his shop, made sure everything was in it, sealed it back up and away I went.

I bought a crated 500exc from Kansas last year. And saved almost $2k by not buying locally.
Cost $300 to get it from KS to OR.

Hawaii is a whole 'nother logistical issue though!

Ive bought 2 crated KXF's from dealers outside California and had them shipped to me, I must say it is a thrill to un crate a bike and assemble it yourself, I highly recommend it.

It's funny that KTM doesn't want people putting them together themselves. Everyone should know by now that the first thing you do when you get a new bike (after you get tired of jumping up and down and wipe the drool off) is take it apart to lube and torque it properly. My local dealer is much better about this but previous experience taught me never to trust that the bike is ready to go off the showroom floor.

Besides, motocross bikes are so dependent on constant service that it wouldn't make any sense to say a warranty is voided simply because the customer put it together. You're supposed to be taking it apart and putting it back together all the time anyway in order for it to last - otherwise you're much more likely to need the warranty.

Anyone else think KTM's logic is backwards?

Every MFG is the same. It is a liability issue. If yiu have recieved a bike in the crate feel special cause it doesn't happen that often.

Stay away from Fun Mart they are terrible they will find a way to rip you off. Munn racing are good people.

I had a dealership tell me multiple times that they get charged from KTM the delivery/destination & setup fees at the time they receive the bike. To ensure they uncrate it and charge the customer for both charges. So because they already gave KTM the $, they'd have to charge the customer to get re-imbursed.

This was their rationale for why they were unable to budge on the price of the bike. Sounded like total bullshit to me so I told myself I'd never go in that dealership again.

Every brand has it in their dealer agreement that they can not sell a crated bike, so if you buy one from a dealer in a crate you are dealing with a dealer that is not honoring their dealer agreement that is in writing, sounds like a first class business to me.

You sound like the guy in the bentley wanting a price break for mounting his crf50 tire. I hope one day all of your customers end up being total jackholes like what people in the dirt bike world have ended up dealing with.

You don't stay wealthy if your not at least trying to save money. Whats wrong with wanting to pay a lower price for something? Please explain that to me. This man doesn't want to wait till October for a bike or pay $500 for some schmuck to assemble his bike when he can do it himself and do a better job.

I just know this country was built on fellow Americans making a profit to stay in business, his local KTM dealer is not getting rich at full msrp plus 500, he is staying open and that is about it, but that is not good enough for everyone on this forum, they need the dealer to loss money in order for them to do a deal. And he didn't get wealthy saving some money on a dirtbike?
