We should talk about and continue to work on safety improvements all of the time. We have looked into the lighting setup and empty some on the infield at Loretta Lynn's. But they require much more than just putting up lights at every obstacle; they require someone to be able to see all of the landing areas as well as the takeoffs, which is difficult on a mile-long track with infield spectating areas, and then make the appropriate . There's also a chance that the lights could fail given all of the wiring, generators needed, spectator and equipment traffic, etc...

It's not fair to say that three longtime officials that go to every round of the series have "little to no training." They did exactly what they were trained to do, but a couple of riders on hot laps did not see or obey them, and they will be dealt with accordingly. And here is the ironic part: On this thread some want to DQ Jason Anderson from the next round for not slowing down for the caution flags, and on another thread people are angry that Adam Cianciarulo got docked two spots for not slowing down when he went...

Shaun's a really interesting character, and I got to shoot a lot of photos of him back in the days when I worked at Specialized Bicycles. At the time he was still competitive in boardercross events, and was bouncing back and forth between those, and trying to train for mountain bike downhill when he was riding for Specialized. All of that was a handful. Dude was a rockstar in that era, to be at the top of a couple wildly diverse disciplines.
