IMO, a 5-foot bed is not sufficient for a motocross rider's needs. However, you can get really creative if that's all you have. I have a 6-foot bed on my Tacoma and it was barely enough for a little while there. Now the kids are a little older and I don't have to do this anymore:

I got the 5 ft bed. I load my bike up on the right side of the bed and turn the handlebars all the way left. The front tire contacts the front most side of the bed and the right wheel well. It feels secure like this and I use a MotoGate strap tailgate since my actual tailgate cannot close. Gives me peace of mind to keep all my other stuff in the bed. I love my Tacoma and it works well enough to get to the track safe 👍

I have a long bed Tacoma and just use an AMP research bed extender. Then the bike is in straight without a problem.

I have a 5’ Tacoma bed. Not even close to being able to shut the tailgate with my YZ125.

Had quite a few run ins but the oddest was probably waking up from surgery next to Cole Seely. Had a quick drugged out convo about dirt bikes that I don’t really remember.

Last month I was at a local practice track in nh. Some dude on a yz450f was quadding things on the track I’ve never seen anyone quad before. Turns out it was Jimmy Decotis.

Two run ins with Marchbanks, once at Sheetz filling up his truck after Budds creek, he said he was driving back to Club Mx lol, then on the rooftop of Aldeans bar in Nashville the night before SX, same night we met Jeremy Martin in another bar and let’s just say he had a few brews in him and was super friendly to us, we actually talked for a good ten minutes, it was awesome

I went into the old Ford dealer in TR years ago and I walked in and two guys were talking. One was clearly a salesmen wearing a blue polo and I happened to be wearing a blue polo that day. I was walking by them to go to the service center and the salesmen gave a friendly nod and "Hey" and the other guy stuck his hand out for a hand shake and said "Hey I'm Randy Hawkins.". I think Randy thought I worked there, but he was super friendly.

I used to race Mtn bikes and did the local series that held a race at the Charlotte Whitewater Center and I podiumed and thought I was fast.. Then a few weeks later I went back to a random Wednesday night short track race at the Whitewater Center and a lot of the JGR guys were there, Barcia, Peick, Barcias mechanic Ben, maybe Brayton? A few years ago, I'm at a restaurant in Annapolis called Zoe's. I go back to the soda fountain to re-fill my ice cold diet Coke. This tall dude in a flannel shirt goes up to the machine next to me. It's Travis Pastrana. We made quick eye contact and he knew that I knew, and I knew that he knew that I knew. I briefly met Ryan Sipes and his wife in the Silver Cloud Hotel elevator after he won the 250 Race in Seattle back in 2012 on his Star Valli Yamaha/Rockstar Energy bike. I thought it was pretty badass, I was glazing pretty hard lol.

Coolest interaction I had was with Fro at AUSX around 2018, he was sitting behind me during practice, I said hi, we shot the shit about grips and dirt bikes for 10 mins. Such a down to earth humble guy, I could feel how much he still loved moto

It's cool to rub elbows with the greats! It happens a lot when you live where I do. I ran into Grant Langston over at his shop a few months back. I was spending the afternoon at the Goat Ranch watching the army of Star riders practice. I was kicking back in a lawn chair under one of the buildings for shade - Carmichaels dad was sitting next to me... He just started talking to me like he knew me forever - I just rolled with the situation. In 1998 I was working in a bike shop in Davidson, NC, when this little dude comes in with a Yeti mountain bike that had Sue Fish's name on the top tube. I asked him where he got it and he said John Parker (Yeti Founder) is a friend of mine. I asked who he was and he said Kevin Atherton. He had stepped away from the dirt track circuit to get his shit together, and we did a bunch of riding and partying that summer. He told me he had some buddies that needed work done on their bikes...

Trampas Parker used to come to my track in Louisiana quite often when he was still training kids. He would bring Matt Bisceglia when he was on 85’s. Blake and Tyler Wharton used to come ride also on 85’s. Their dad would bring them in the middle of the week when it was blazing hot.

He was standing next to me by the pits. He seemed more happy to meet me then the other way around. A very nice experience....

Roger DeCoster in the Concourse of the United Airlines terminal (C?) at Denver International. Just sitting by himself. Introduced myself as a fan and thanked him for what he had/has done for the sport. Chatted a second or two. Gracious as could be. He was on the way to FL to Chad's place for some testing.
