Well shoot man, I quoted your old post with a pic stolen from your new post, without bothering to read what you had typed. Sorry about that. Didn’t mean to call you out. Was just trying to summarize the “looks like a KTM”argument. For the record, I hope Triumph’s new bike is awesome.

It is basically a carbon copy of the 2022 KTM 250. Every single component is in the exact same place. Finger follower pivots, motor mounts, coolant nipples, breather hose, slave cylinder, throttle body, oil screen and drain plug… they didn’t even modify the clutch cover bolt pattern. The only differences I can see are superficial castings. All the talk of Triumph’s Moto2 knowledge got us hyped for something uniquely Triumph. What they have delivered is the last gen KTM engine with a crappier clutch. Nothing wrong with that, just sort of a let down.

Okay, so I was comparing it to the new KTM motors. The older, 2022 clutch cover does line up exactly. And now looking back more at the old engine style, I can see a lot more similarities. I've been comparing it to the 2022.5+ motors. 🤦‍♂️ If they based it off the previous generation KTM engines that were notoriously lacking in power compared to the other factory teams, that is extremely unfortunate.

I've been beating the ever-loving shit out of my 2021 450 SX-F for over 80 hours now, and it's been extremely impressive. My only complaint would be the spokes, but I replaced the nipples and haven't had a single loose spoke since. And I'm not one of these vet riders who is super meticulous about maintenance. I go ride it dirty sometimes. Sometimes the oil change interval gets stretched a little. I make sure the joints are greased and there's oil in the motor, and this thing hasn't let me down at all. Not to mention it's not like I'm...

Yeah, you can see that coolant flange is on the front of the cylinder head on the Triumph but comes out the side of the cylinder head on the KTM. Certainly no secret where they pulled some inspiration from, though! Glad we finally have a release date to see the whole thing.

Its weird how similar it is but also different enough that the castings and everything would have to be totally different

So on the Vital Facebook page it said there is key differences between the Triumph motor and the KTM. What are the key differences between them?

Another disappointing video, showed some random parts and the same 4 inch square section of the motor 10 times. I gathered that it had really broad usable power they mentioned over and over. It appears to have a long oil screen like the KTM motors do.

Beat me to it I almost posted this exact image as a comparison. Weird if they have a problem with the thumbnail image being posted here since its literally on the front page of the youtube video on their channel. That being said there is only so many ways to skin a cat and it certainly has the same layout which is pretty close to all the other 250s as well. But I highly doubt it shares anything part wise with the KTMs. The best thing to take away from this is that they didnt try any weird stuff.

That sure looks a lot like a 2023 KTM 250 engine.
