About Me
Medicare aged former MXer who raced from 73-75 and then through much of the 80s to about early 91.
I have raced a 73 Wombat (stripped and plasticized with an expansion chamber) but it was tough going up agains the Elsinores. In '75 I bought a leftover 73 CZ 250 and briefly raced that before going to college with a highlight being a second place (250 C class) finish at the Blue-Gray race at Maryland Line MD. In 1981 I bought a new YZ125H and in a little over a year advanced to A class in District 13 (VA) . I then switched to open class first riding an 82 Honda CR480. Later racing an 87 CR500 and finally an 89 CR500 which I still own. I finished 4th in District 13 Senior class and 7th in Open class.
I've also owned and riden street bikes beginning with 77 Hodaka Wombat which I 'toured' on driving it from Melbourne FL to Gatlinberg TN, to Blacksberg VA and on the metro DC where I continue to live. I still have that intact bike. Since then I have owned an '80Suz GS550E (great bike), a 74 BMW R90S (classic which I still own) and finally a 2005 BMW R1200ST, also a great bike I still own.
I found this forum today after watching a YouTube video last night on the CZ 250. I still have my old 73 CZ and am intrigued about the possibility of restoring it. It's been in my basement since 1986. I have several original parts for it that I never rode with including gas tank and front fender and handlebars.
I also have a CZ 250 enduro that had been abandoned and eventually gifted to me (because I would take it). I've never fired it up but it is intact/complete. So I wanted to find a forum to talk about this potential project and possibly racing vintage and maybe even my CR500 which is also complete and intact.
