Curious about any shops that specialize in 70s era CZs (1973 CZ 250)

Newbie so please excuse silly or obvious questions

I have a 73 CZ 250 which needs some (arguably a lot) work and parts,
Engine - one of the transmission bearings is wasted which is what took the bike out of service circa 1979-1980. While it was sitting in my basement, both wheels broke. I'm wondering if that is common with this bike. I see wheels can still be purchased which is encouraging although I also have a Yammie 81 YZ125 and was thinking those wheels would be nice on the CZ if they could be adapted. Wonder if they would be considered Vintage legal for racing. The rear on the Yammie is chain on the right so it matches the CZ.

I bought CZ airshocks for it which I still have. I ran a Cleansweep pipe on the bike from the get go and also still have a completely fresh exhaust system. The bike ran well with the jikov carb with the CleanSweep.

When I uncrated the bike in 1975, I took off the tank and the front fender and like the aforementioned exhaust, they are in pristine condition other than a bit of dust. The seat is also in excellent condition. If it turns out the project is more than I feel like I should take on, everything would be up for sale.

Wondering what shops near or far from DC would be helpful to get to know. Thanks in advance.

Hey Jim. Welcome to another facet of motocross. VINTAGE! Old farts on old bikes is a blast. Speed and Sport is a good source for parts and engine work. Move your post to Old School MX section on this site, and you will get all the help you need from the CZ Cult.

Cr high performance is the place to go for parts for cz, I had him lace up new excel aluminum wheels to stock hubs. Also had him rebuild engine with his ignition and it runs better than new. pm me if you want to sell the gas tank and seat.

If I had it to do all over I’d kept my CZ 250. I think mine was a 73 model, may have been 74. Been to many years, graduated high school in 1974. I swapped out the steel tank for plastic, replaced the pipe. Ditched the Crap CZ carb and replaced with Mikuni. Moved the shocks forward. Ported, Wisco piston, Metzeler tires. Pretty good racing scooter.

I carried out a lot of groceries to support my racing. We had so much fun back then should have been a law against it, some of what we did there was a law against it LOL. We raced all over Oklahoma, North Texas and western Arkansas.

I glad to see shops still supporting vintage bikes.

74 had a red frame as opposed to the black frame on a 73. They were otherwise very similar. IIRC. But due to finances as much as anything I used the Jikov carb and actually did not have any issues with it to speak of. Thanks for the reply.

Mine must have been a a 73, it had a black frame as I recall. I remember repainting it black too with a rattle can no less. Which came out pretty good best I can remember. That was a long time ago.
