About Me
I grew up in Landover Hills, PG County, Maryland. Curtice Wink (my best friend Phil Wink's dad) started taking us riding when were about 12. Curtice had a hot-rod 56' Pontiac station wagon painted yellow and a homebuilt motorcycle trailer that carried 5 bikes. We rode at Phantom Hill (now the New Carrolton Metro station), Beltsville/Contee gravel pits, College Park (next to the beltway beside the railroad tracks) and the Tyson's Corner pits. Our mainstays were the Beltsville and Tyson's gravel pits. Bikes in order, Honda 70, Honda SL100, Yamaha 175 and then I bought my beautiful Montesa VR250 from Heyser's and though my memory is foggy I paid either $1300 or $1700. The Heyser's salesman, Bob Burrows was my neighbor. I raced the VR at Budd's Creek in 73'-74' with some success. I remember crossing under 95 through giant storm drains on all day rides throughout the Contee properties. I have so many fond memories growing up in PG County playing Boys Club sports, going to OC, Rehobeth, Fenwick and Assateague, meeting girls at CYO dances and riding dirt bikes with my friends and of course MX racing at Budd's Creek, living every young man's dream! I currently live in Purcellville, VA.
