They can leave the motor and suspension alone. Put it on a diet..say..7-10lbs using some tricks Star Racing came up with, and lose some (more) of that feeling of girth around the airbox/shroud area and I'm in.

Actually impressed how well they've kept it under wraps so far.

True, but they are not marketing for desert racers. Moto is the name of the game which means handling, power, turning, and weight. Drop the lbs, thin it out, redesign the plastic, and call it a day. The motor and suspension are amazing

As I said, don't know if it is true. He was correct in the past... but you really think that factory riders don't know a thing? I would say that Tomac already tested the bike...

Other than a pissing match against the other manufacturers there is no need for Yamaha to get extra power out of their motors. The weight reduction would be great though

I’m not sure about the stabilizer. It just seems like added weight and another item that can break. The Yamaha doesn’t even need one. Like others have stated, slightly slimmer body, weight reduction and boom. Perfect bike

We've done that, but haven't physically measured the deformation result; instead we just had a inner fork tube and bushing inside the outer and moved it back and forth feeling the resistance. It definitely increases resistance as the torque (clamping load) rises. Remove the torque and it springs back to normal. It doesn't take much distortion to notice a big difference. We tested multiple triple clamps - stock, ours, Xtrig, Neken, etc. and they were all about the same. More torque than necessary and they started to bind up. Unless the machining tolerances are way off, it will be about...

I went down to 10Nm on my WP lower clamps and it felt a little vague in some corners so I bumped up to 11Nm and that has been great for me. I did find it wise to check/re-torque before every ride day after finding inconsistent readings when checking following my rides… i have a quick sequence now where i hit all my front end 10mm bolts so it takes like 2 minutes!

I thought people not liking their suspension would be good for business? Cool I think a lot of people actually don't have an issue with their suspension until they read how crap it is on the internet.

I'm one of the guys that doesn't really have a problem with the stock AER's, especially the 2020 and 2021 and newer. To me they are really good. I kinda like that the bikes are delivered with cheaper, lighter, easily adjustable air forks but the option is there to change to spring forks for those who so desire. Unlike competitors bikes where you basically get what you get and that's that. Now, what would be really cool is if you could pick which one you want and spec the bike at time of purchase and avoid having to do the...

If the AER forks are so disliked that even WP makes their own "spring conversion" and now "cartridge/spring conversion" kits... and I'm just spitballing here... maybe they should just come stock with the new "XACT 6500 spring forks"

I just did some googling about Torque wrenches and temperature. A good rabbit hole to run down on a friday night if you want some crazy techno geek talk! Let's just say, how many MX'ers are "exercising" their torque wrench at least 10 times before taking every reading? HA!

Review and Photos by Michael Lindsay Wandering the pits at a Supercross race can reveal some pretty trick parts on the top team’s bikes. Earlier this year, I spotted a unique set of triple clamps on Ryan Dungey’s KTM. Instead of standard solid bar mounts, they’d been replacedwith little air shocks! My first thought was about how cool an idea this was, but it was quickly followed by, “There is no way you can buy these.” Well, I was wrong. These clamps are built by a French company known as Neken, and they’re for sale to the public. So we...

I love the cones on the front of my ‘22 350. In terms of feeling stiff retorque the lower clamp bolts to 9nm instead of the factor 12nm spec and you’ll feel a difference.

Yep and I realize this thread is 2 years old but the topic is still relevant. While I realize most love the KYB kit, after riding my 22 350 SX-F with the KYB kit I realized those 2.8 pounds of added weight is not something I can get used to nor do I like the stiffness in certain situations. What’s...

Just read a thread elsewhere that said the Dal Saggio spring conversion kit is 2.5lbs (!!!!) heavier than the MX Tech Lucky Gen 1 kit. Wonder what the KYB conversion weighs in at? All coil/oil will be heavier than a stock AER, and adding weight in the forks can really impact feel and handling.
