Tim I gave it up too, 2 years ago when ACE in Sanford closed, my best riding buddy "retired", and I was sick of rebuilding the bike every few weeks. I was burnt out.

For 2 years I spent my time and money on "normal" things, like house projects and catching up at work.

It became freakin' boring.

Last month, I bought an RM125 with about 10 hours on it, and have been having a blast. I ride only when I feel like it, and am actually somehow riding better than before, probably because I am enjoying a better balance.

I rode all the KX250 from 1998 to 2005 (owned most of them)

That 2002 was the worst by far, not sure why but the engine was slow that year and the suspension wasn't much better. My clapped out 200 KX250 would blow past that thing.

I've always wondered how can you take a great bike (2000 KX250) and make it drastically worst the next 2 years without major redesign.

1998 was the bomb, 2000 was great, 2001 ok, 2002 bad, 2003 and 2004 very good, 2005 great!
Spot on, I would add that the 1997 was great as well. It is my most favorite. I keep the bikes I like and I kept...

My side case on the 97 125 busted three or four times in a year, right at the water pump. Kawaski could never explain to my dad why it would do that with out anything hitting it to do so.

2005-2007 were all the same, I think. Must be something wrong with your 07, It should blow bye your other bikes. I had a 98 kx250 and got a 05kx250, the 05 seemed like it had 5-7 more horse than my 98.

no need to explain to me, IF I had something that sat around of value that I was NOT using, I'd sell it. Maybe if you "prioritize" yourself then you'd have the DESIRE, TIME, and MONEY to do so. I do care about being core or proving myself to anyone. I personally enjoy two-wheelers and partake in riding almost daily wether it be moto, mtb, or roadbike. For me, thats what makes me.
Take it easy there, Dr. Phil. Being "core" has nothing to do with this. Many of us on the board are older, have kids & other obligations, & have less time to ride. It's the way things sometimes go. I'm sure you're very "core", but that doesn't make you any better than anyone else, so get off the high horse. We've all been "core" in our day. You should save your advice for people who care & quit while you're ahead...//TJ

Im actually just getting back into racing, after an 18 year break from racing and a 8 year layoff from riding I am back at it. I picked up a 06 cr 125 for me and my son to play on and didn't realize how much I missed it. I was like alphado with kids and bigger priorities wanting my time, its nice to kind of take some of my life back....lol My first race back is may 15th and Im looking forward to it and man was I out of shape!

There is nothing wrong with it and it is strong and all but just not very characteristic of KX power. You kinda have to ride it like a 125 because it is a little light off bottom and is kinda pipey but then it signs off early power wise. It will rev to the moon but there just isn't that much difference between 3/4 throttle 3rd gear and wide open. I've grown accustomed to using that as a safety net and this bike just doesn't have it. Its just weird and I don't like the power spread.

I have a suggestion for you though. Go pick up a 125 and find the fun again. I hung it up racing after the AF500 dealio, but kept riding the 125 exclusively. Having a blast....don't give a f*** that my lap times are slower, cuz I'm grinning ear to ear.
me either...damn tim, do you miss it at all?

I have been looking for a 05-07 KX 250 to buy when I get home from AFG end of june or july. I even have my uncle in canada looking since it was understanding they imported more to canadia than US. I hung up the boots in 02 after i healed from complications with my right scaphoid and sold my lightly modified 2000 kx250... I loved that bike. Big.. yes... turn as good as my honda prior... no... but damn I could haul on that bike!!! I still know where it is... but man it is beat no way i would buy it back now!

Any one that can help get a returning vet from this wonderful place locate a low hour/newish 05 - 07 KX250 on the western US I would really appreciate it... I figure if i make it through this place no one in my family has the right to tell me "its too dangerous!"

Thanks

Barron

Hockey can ruin a guy financially......

Especially if your kid has some talent and decides he needs to go play for some junior teams somewhere. Those deals are some serious 'pay to play' scenarios. Even if you get a host family the travel, ice time fees, and equipment can tear you up.

I have to admit not minding that neither of my boys were too interested in anything other than our local program, even that got a little too pricy for my taste.

I think it's funny that you are being lectured to prioritize. Sounds like perfect priorities to me!

And as for Eggers, only the corest of the core can pull off the plain white helmet and long sleeve white T riding gear. I don't think anyone could ever question that guy's love for the sport, the true essence of the sport not the flashy 'look at me' crap you see too much of these days. Hope you get the fire to just ride again soon.

Funny about the hockey. I signed both boys up for the new skater program last year for $75 each. They both did great and were advanced out. Next year it will be $550 a kid for the house program. Youth hockey is like a drug dealer, get you hooked cheap, then whammo!

Get back to us in 10-15 years and then you can tell us all about priority, desire, time and money. You'll be amazed at how much things change, never have lost the desire just son's sports come first and wouldn't change a thing. I've had my seasons in the sun and spending all my time with my boy is something all the money in the world could never replace. I learned that the hard way on my first go-round aka marriage.

our house program is $450. We are very lucky to have a local rink that is affordable. My son is 8 and played Squirts last year. It was $675(12 home slots and 2, 1hr practice slots/wk) and that didnt include the 2 tournaments or the extra home slots......you wouldnt believe what some of the programs cost down towards NYC though. We played a squirts team that was $6k/yr and didnt include any tournaments........we travel a bit over an 1hr away for our furthest home games. Away games basically take all day for 36 min of ice time. We rotate 3 lines so each kid gets about 12min. Crazy when you think about it but well worth it......No different than sitting around a track for 12 hrs to get 8 laps I guess.....

Moto essentially ended my kids hockey playing days when he broke a leg three years in a row. The wife always joked when we got heavily into racing that I was the only guy that could find us another sport more expensive than hockey LOL.

you could be wrong. He just may be parking his two wheel toys in his mothers garage next to her Chevy Caprice as he sits down to the dinner him mom has wrapped up for him cause he got in after 7pm in 15 years. Not everyone evolves from a boy to an adult

I had an 01 KX250 and I really liked it. By far the best set up I had on it was the FMF SST pipe/muffler and a V-Force 2 reed cage. That thing would pull the YZF-426's down Glen Helen's start straight every time!!
A friend had an '02 Kx250 and it was a dog compared to my bike. No comparison. They totally blew the 02 and made it a trail bike. A shame.

I moved outta moms house but do visit often, fortunately my parents are a huge part of my life and I say that motocross is a big part of the reason why. Mom doesn't enjoy the moto today as she did when I was younger, she is more into camping at a cmp ground these days while Dad joins me on sundays to hang out or mechanic at the races. For me, I enjoy bikes wether it be racing sundays with dad, an open ride day with friends, harescramble, long street ride to the beach or mts for the day, going mtb riding w/ my fiance or friends, etc. I don't eat fast food, i work out/cycle/moto daily. its just my lifestyle. plain and simple, like it or hate it.

but all you guys that think that my replies were about someone not being "core", its not that at all.
