I like it, some will not. No more debating holding line vs getting out of fast line. If it looks bad you can be penalized. That's it. SX only at this point.

Gotta try something.

I like how it goes to loss of positions after a warning. License points are a joke.

How about restarts, will they ever get that right? There is a place we could use a new rule.

When the words "discretion" and "race direction (director)" are used together, I don't have high hopes for this.

Agree. On that note, Friese just read the new rule book and through it in the dumpster.

I'd go further,  ignore the flag, one warning,  then a DQ.  Guys like friese have had enough chances.

There also needs to be a “passing under blue flag” penalty to stop the lapped riders battling each other from using it to their advantage.

That's the point of the rule change. There's no defense anymore. It is on you to not hold up the leaders and if you do you can be penalized.

Is there a blue flag warning light? Otherwise how do they know to look for the Blue flag?

Agree. The start is very hard and those who get it right should be rewarded. There should be no do-overs after 1 lap is completed. 3 laps makes no sense. If a guy gets the holeshot but someone elses crashes thats not his fault and he should not be punished with a gate restart, likewise if someone gets a bad start and someone else falls they should not be rewarded with a new gate restart. Anything after 1 lap should be a staggered start. Also starts are one of the most dangerous parts of the race so making everyone line up again to redo the most dangerous thing because someone got hurt is ass backwards.

No more double secret probation?

This sounds very vague

You know the rules, we don't talk about double secret probation.

When the words "discretion" and "race direction (director)" are used together, I don't have high hopes for this.

It’s still incredibly subjective. It would be at least a little bit clearer if they mandated that a rider getting the blue flag has to either go to the left or right side of the track.

They should also consider some sort of blue light attached to the front fender that alerts a rider that the leaders are approaching them quickly. Sort of a variation of the green light for the leader, except it would be more visible for the guy being lapped. It would take more spotters, of course, and it might be more confusing than beneficial, but right now as it is written there isn’t a lot of objective definition to make a solid decision about whether a lapper is actually holding up a passing rider.

Moving to the left side of the track may be inappropriate in some circumstances, moving to the right side of the track may be inappropriate in other circumstances, getting out of the fing way would be appropriate in all circumstances.

A no passing rule for backmarkers battling with other backmarkers, when being passed by the leaders would be beneficial.

Agree here. There can’t be a set move to the left or the right.

It’s really not that complicated. Make the penalty severe enough that lappers give a shit. They can play dumb all they want ‘I didn’t see the flag or rider’ we all know that’s bullshit. Everyone here that rides knows when a faster rider is coming by them and how to give them space.

Watch a couple mxgp races. The lappers in those races will damn near leave the track load up there hauler and drive away to avoid getting in the way.

Still doesn’t say whether to move or stay in your line. Vague.

“Faster riders”? On the same lap? Am I missing something? No indication of lapped riders.

If Jett goes down lap one, does he blue flag his way to the front?

No one "should" be getting a blue flag in that scenario.

Why not just make them roll a certain amount of jumps. This could be a pain till it’s decided how but if 1st to be lapped has to roll 3 (?) jumps maybe

Blue flag position penalty makes good sense, I like it. That takes a lot of the air out of the "but I was racing for position" excuse if they actually have a risk of losing that position.

I'd still love to see some type of flashing front fender LED to warn them when lapping was imminent so they could get the hell out of the way.

Give the fans paintball guns, sell it as a VIP experience.  Let the committee dictate the rule enforcement.

It may seem ‘inappropriate’, but if you think about it it’s still better than trying to guess which way the lapper might go. If you say that the blue flag means go to the right of the track, then the guys catching the lappers have at least an idea that they can pass on the left without having the lapper going from side to side figuring out where to go to get out of the way.

I agree with the idea of no passing while getting the blue flag, but not sure how well it would work. If a lapper is trying to latch on to the leaders after they go by, he might be a little bit too far back to see the lapper ahead of him getting the blue flag. But I definitely agree that if you can figure out a way to define it more specifically and apply it consistently, it would be an overall benefit.

If these rules were in place this year, Harrison would have been docked about 1500 places.

The rule as written addresses the lappers fighting for position as well, at least to the extent that we care about it. If they can keep racing their race without holding up the leaders, so be it, but you better be sure about it or you're going to lose positions anyway.

I get the desire and benefit to having things be black and white with no discretion, but that clearly wasn't working with this issue.

My hope is they come down hard and any questionable incident gets penalized for a while so these guys start taking it seriously again and police themselves.
