Didnt Jody's dog win a moto at Chicken Licks!
Prayers for skilled doctors, healing and comfort for Sally too.
Jody is an icon of this sport.... Like many...been reading his exploits since the 70's.
Two men who greatly influenced my youth. They do not make them like this anymore.
Shame he doesn't grant interviews.
That is awesome. Never knew that before. Shots from Indian Dunes bring back a lot of riding/racing memories.

A rival US magazine editor once said to me about Jody, “The guy practically invented the sport”. Even if you don’t want to go that far, he certainly defined it and made the sport cool. His reach and influence was global. We owe a lot to him.
Get well soon, mate.
I saw Jody a few times but never spoke to him. I was at a CMC or Trans-Cal race at Adalento back in 87. All the factory guys were there. It was where RJ punched Lechien. Anyway it was a horrible rainy day. I was standing out in the middle of the track soaked. I look over and Jody was standing about 15 feet from me. I looked at him and he looked at me and we just shrugged our shoulders and laughed.
When I think of Jody I always remember those few minutes.
Hit me like a gut punch. I have been reading, and needing his column since 76. I feel like I know the SOB. He certainly knows us. Quick recovery Jody.
This hit me in the feels when I saw it a couple of days ago. I never met Jody, but he was family to me.
Growing up in a small town in rural Georgia, I would have to drive an hour to pick up the latest issue of MXA and I gladly did it in the hopes of hearing from my Uncle Jody.
You seriously don't think Matthes, Lewis, and Cooksey are not on Super Hunky and Jody's level?
First "Jody's Box" I remember reading was at the grocery store Mag rack while mom was shopping.
It was about 1975 and was about his transition from surfing to Motocross. Factory hodaka rider and all.
There have been so many awesome, funny, and sarcastic ones over the years.
I have been saying for 20 years they need to put them all in a book and make them available.
It is a crime that newcomers can't learn about the sport, and what it was in the past in some cases from his insights.
An entire column about deciding whether to change lines because there was something shiny in a corner, and the internal conversation that finally decided it must be glare off a tear off, only to crash because he hit a silencer.
How about "chicken bones ruined my dog"?
and then some columns that were deeply emotional, like about his late father.
Two sincere wished:
Get well soon Jody.
Somebody please get them to put all his columns in a special edition MXA or a book form.
Okay...my sarcasm meter is pegged....please confirm, over....😅
Not even close.
Exactly…I hope the sarcasm just went over my head.
I’m pretty certain that wasn’t sarcasm. Lord, I hope I’m wrong!
i don’t think I’ve ever felt as star struck meeting someone from this sport as when I got to meet Jody, what a legend. After reading his column for decades I wasn’t sure what to expect, reality was he seemed very kind.
He is moto to the core, he practically lives at Glen Helen, he wouldn’t be there as much as he is at that age if he didn’t truly love it. Even though he can’t ride much at all anymore he’s still there all of the time whenever anything is going on. Keep it pinned Jody, ride this one out please!

Nailed it 👍
If you went to Glen Helen, you ran into Jody sooner or later.
I can't "thumbs up" this post enough. ^^^^
Same goes for Ricks "From the Saddle" columns. I thought at one point when Rick passed someone on VItal was helping his daughter to convert all his columns from some oddball digital format. ...but nothing ever surfaced.
Cooksey was the give-away. 🤣
Pit Row
Every magazine was a discission for me, do I read his column first or wait till the end?
I almost always couldn't wait.....
Get well Jody.
Wish him the very best, and that he is blessed with a fantastic rehab team. Prayers, for two measured of resilience for every measure of deliverance.
This man is American motocross history - please pray for 100% recovery for him and strength/support from those around him -
Iraying for Jody. Strokes suck. Been 3 years since mine and I still have some issues.
This thread got me thinking. Does anyone remember The Baz? 😁
agreed, would love to listen to a podcast or read a long form interview with him,
I car pooled with a guy that wasn't even into motocross. I started reading Jody's Box to him on our car rides and he liked Jody's column so much that I would save it for the next car ride so I could read it to him before I read it myself.
I do. He goes by Father Paul these days.

Yup. Baz's Box was in MXA before Jody's Box. Paul "The Baz" Boudreau became a Catholic Priest.
I'm hoping and praying for a full recovery for Jody. He's done so much for this niche sport we all love and he lives, bleeds and breathes moto.
Met him in person once at Tom White's "Early Years of Motocross" and he couldn't have been a nicer person.
I saw him at GH quite a few times but never spoke with him. The only time I ever heard him say anything was at a GH national when they used to be 2 day events. We signed up to flag so I showed up Thursday morning to get my camping spot, got all set up and was walking around checking out the track. It was the year they had that gigantor step up double that took them to the REM track. I saw Jody, K-Dub and a couple other riders I didn't recognize standing at the take off so I went over to eavesdrop. Windham was saying are you sure that's doable ? Has anyone done it yet ? And there was some conversation about who was going to do it first. Jody assured them it was good lol. He was right. I wound up getting stationed at the takeoff and was pretty nervous about. It wound up being an easy position because the riders either cleared it, or didn't try it. I wish he did more (any ?) interviews. Prayers and positive thoughts sent for a full recovery.
I can vouch for that. I had lunch with him one day and he just treats you like you've been life long best friends.
You could never tell from his demeanor that he's a legend!
TM
I worked for ATK briefly in 1986 and remember going for a beer up the street with Jody and Horst Leitner. I was a fly on the wall and didn't say much
Met him again a few years ago at GH and mentioned I had met him before at ATK in 1986.
Horst Leitner had sold ATK and created AMP. Turns out the Bed Extender that was made and marketed by AMP was actually Jody's idea. He went to Horst with idea, Horst made and sold the extender, and Jody recieved royalties from this creation. I suspect as the Bed Extender was popular he made more then a few pennies form the royalties.
