Bagget is a good dude. He showed up to fontana on dh bike back in the pc days and did pretty decent, was super cool to everyone too
Beats listening to Matthes college boy limited vocabulary, stupid rants and overtalking his guests and co-hosts. How many more "I'm here for it's, my bads, I'm outs, bed bugs hate coms, and huh huh huh's can a guy take. It's just so gay.
Dix Develoment did it prior to buying it to make sure it would go through. They took it in front of the county commissioners and had it all approved as part of another parcel they are developing. Part of that deal was paying about 2 mill to the school board to pay for impact studies.
Blake bought the place for 400k in 2013 with his bonus money and sold it for just under 5 mill 12 years later. Not a bad return.
Does anyone know exactly what his company produces? I just heard steel in steel out and something about leasing out a tip back or something.
The Shop

Pretty sure it’s a steel erection company.
I assume a tip back or tip up refers to pre engineered walls for the exterior of a steel frame building. I interpreted that to mean he bought a newly built commercial building to lease and found a tenant to sign a 7 year lease. Not a bad program!
Yeah the start of Blake’s career was definitely not covered as well as it needed to be.
Gypsy normally has good history, but failed a bit here. Covering Mitches dilemma between Blake and Dean in more detail would have good.
Also the Suzuki deal. Blake said it was the years the RMZ/ KXF were the same which we know wasn’t true, along with the EFI which he would have been on the first year EFI RMZ 250.
Appreciate it was a long time ago, but if Jase had presented more facts to Blake it might have helped him remember and give more insight.
I think he was correct on the EFI part. The 2010 Suzuki was new with EFI, but they rode the 09 in SX.
I gotta be real. Huge respect to Blake. Seems like a great person and incredibly hard worker.
He’s the epitome of the American dream..including the part where he’s a 7 figure millionaire talking about going toward automation and away from employing blue collar people who need income so he can make 3 million instead of 2.4 million a year.
People blame a lot of different stuff for why America is the way it is…the real reason is downsizing employment for the sake of efficiency and to make a tenth more. And not because he’s not a good person but it’s the elusive dangling carrot. Dude just wants to do better and better and it’s aimed toward nothing…
Definitely a catchy opinion. I’m guilty of thinking that way sometimes as well. But I’m also aware that I can take on the risk and start my own business anytime I want to get out of the corporate grind.
The question I keep asking myself and then answering to myself is, “why don’t I do it?”
I think Blake just isn't too concerned about it all? Jase tried to go there a few times and Blake was pretty short winded with alot of "I don't knows" and "I couldnt even tell you" etc. Probably because he seems well grounded, not hung up on his career, perfectly contempt with where's he's currently at and occupied with his current venture. Moto isn't his identity and that's fine.
His tone and excitement totally changed whenever they talked about his steel business. All the sudden he was very enthusiastic and went into quite alot of detail.
I remember complaining about Dean on the podium at Pala 2011
I think Blake's most savage endeavor was the pursuit and courtship of Keleigh. He's told the story before, I don't remember the details, but he was just a kid swinging for the fences and struck out. Most people woulda crawled home with their tail between their legs. Blake took on the challenge, came back after amassing some street cred and the rest, as they say, is history.
Yes, Jase gets the guests, and then talks over them. It's excruciating. I've tried to listen to his pod but I just can't get through more than a couple of minutes.
the kawi went efi after the suzuki tho (went 2011, suzuki went 2010, he also stated that they were still the same bike, but that had ended in 2006, the RMZ was all new and alloy frame in 07,
Great podcast one of the better Moto podcasts from Gypsy, Baggett is a good dude.
Yep, we're both correct. He was on a Rockstar Suzuki at that point.
He tried to goad him into places where Blake didn't care to go.
Very tactfully avoided feeding the internet crowd who he knows are out there sharpening their pitchforks.
I mean how many of us look back a few years and really give a damn, or hold grudges towards people, or their actions ??
Move on, and move up.
Sounds like that's just what he did.
And having a solid "plan B" made ot easier to wash his hands of the whole mess.
I think he was saying he bought the new tilt up/warehouse building with the money that he got from selling his Florida spot and then leased it out for 7 years.
The easy way to explain it is that they get a set of plans, fabricate the structural steel at their shop, ship them to the job site and assemble it.
Pit Row
As in racing, you need to follow technology and improve in business or else you are quickly eaten by competitors. Then you're of no help to anyone.
It is typically all part of the deal. I'm a civil engineer in Orlando, primarily focused on private-sector land development projects (i.e. single-family subdivisions, multi-family, commercial, retail, etc.). My understanding is that it was all part of the deal with Dix Development. Now, who paid for what? I'm not sure. All I know is that it looks like the sale of the property didn't finalize until the zoning was approved and plans were permitted. If the owner doesn't pay for it, the developer does and factors that into what they are paying for the land.
But you would jump ship to the company that offered you 25% more? Why should those guys take the haircut?
This is correct. They primarily focus on building structures.
I’m surprised to say I listened to the whole thing.
I could be WAY misinterpreting Blake, but it sounds like there might not be that much of a story to tell. He’s fairly open. He says:
- KTM was paying his bonuses.
- His salary was low compared to other guys at his level.
- When he was done, he was done. He doesn’t give any impression that he was waiting for dust to settle so he could continue racing.
- Only good things about Forrest Butler.
He mentions hearing the rumors and not wanting to say anything and accidentally involve people who were being unfairly blamed.
And he talks about money made or spent elsewhere. $40k for his first contract, operating an AirBnB, equipment bought, sold and left behind. Maybe there was no double-secret mega lawsuit.
I don’t know how you came to the conclusion that Matthes has a more college boy vocabulary than Gypsy.
