Obviously every rider uses/abuses their bikes differently…but…the guy I ride with the most got a KX450 about when I bought my Husky.  He got a better deal but soon he had spent more money replacing parts on the KX.  We both take care to maintain our bikes.  Besides the pre-ride adds like graphics, Guts and FMF on my bike, the only maintenance $ spent is for oil changes.  It seemed like he replaced half his bike…so…maybe consider that with the KX great deal.  I feel many here will echo that concern with the Kawi.

…btw…buddy is now riding a KTM.

speaking of deals though, we’ll be selling those bikes at great prices in Dec!

We talked with him about the bikes Sunday during lunch.

Plan is to have three of the 250 Sincros shipped back to Montana once the final Try Trials clinic is done and they get "cleaned up" in December! Our other group member is picking up a used Evo from Dan Larson (dealer who helped out the event).

I have to say, that was one of the most fun (and humbling!) experiences I have ever had. Your son and Louise were incredible to work with and I'd recommend anyone to take the class if they can. Off roader, motocrosser, play rider, doesn't matter. You will have a great time and learn stuff you probably didn't know!

They will give you an orange mug that says KTM on it.

That's the deal.

I’ve seen them 1500 off or more before so it’s not as rare as you think.

I'm going to say that is Your Dealer and Your dealer only. Here in the Southwest, They have No problem selling them here. Top Dollar. And before I posted, I checked Cycletrader. The only one below the cost of the others at $9,999 had $3,000 in dealer fees.

I don't even think the SX model makes it out of the crate before it's sold here locally. This is speculation. Lots of XC's though.

Actually going to spend the rest of the weekend with @ccullins76 at the Beta Try Trials clinic here in Montana.

Going to be a hoot!!

And then a mad scramble to get all the honey do's done and then some before a new trials bike shows up in the shop late Spring...

Hopefully some deals come up on a 200 RE. I think that’d what I’m going to get my son at the end of this year/beginning of next.

Lots of posts in here about leftover Kawis. I would stay away from the Kawis based upon my one and only experience purchasing a leftover model year. Bought a 2018 450 new off the showroom floor in 2019. Got the bike home and it wouldn't stop chugging huge plumes of white smoke anytime it ran. Called Kawi and the dealer and was told that it was "just the cosmoline burning off go ride it and it will stop" in 30 years of riding I had never seen anything like that in my life and neither had any of my riding buddies.  There was no way I was taking a bike that looked like a steam train from the 1850s to the track to either grenade the engine or send me over the bars. They finally tore it down and confirmed there was motor oil in the exhaust and the gave me the other 2018 on the floor and took back the old one. The second one was fine, bike handled well, and was enjoyable to ride, but I'll never buy another Kawi again. Long story short, leftover Kawi deals aren't worth it bc their quality is terrible.

The guy is asking about leftover deals and everyone references Kawis. I responded with my experience buying leftover Kawis at steep discounts. It is a 1 out of however many bikes they sell a year experience, YMMV.

I bought a brand new 2017 kx450 as a leftover in 2018 because I got a good deal on it. The clutch exploded at 20 hours and I had to get the entire top and bottom end rebuilt. I was a 30+ B rider at the time, so it’s not like I was abusing the thing like Tomac.

I’ll never Kawi again.

That's a bummer you had that experience. I was on the leftover Kawi program from 2013 to 2021 and never had a single issue. I was hesitant buying a Kawi from the memories of all the problems back in the 80's and 90's even early 2000's with quality. I bolted a Timbersled kit on a 2014 KX450 and wrung it's neck with that thing for 3 season and it just kept chugging.

I got a left over '22 KX450 in 2024. Put ~60 hours on it and never had an issue. Still had the stock clutch. Bike was all stock except for a suspension revalve.  I race 50A for the record.  I would gladly get another KX.

Get a Kawi if you want the best deal. They are the Temu bikes of the Japanese lineup.

Cheap and plenty..

Not clone decals, they are genuine KTM FE shrouds….with over 150hrs on them….They last long time….

2004 timeframe, the CRF250 just came out. My dad got one and I rode it and it was unbelievably better than my 2003 CR125 in every single way so he bought a second one so I could race that for 2004 instead of the 125. The second CRF smoked like crazy, kinda sounds like the same issue as the guy with the Kawi. The dealer did swap it out for another bike. That was 20 years ago, maybe things changed.

A good XC setup works well in a wide variety of terrain, could make it work good for MX or Sand with minimal changes.

Factory Connection has done my suspension forever,,,I ran it stock for 15hrs then sent it off for service…We set it up for Vet outdoor Mx. ..its a good balance where I can ride it on an Mx track and then a Gncc type course with just a few clicks either way….I would say it’s setup more towards faster type riding, I ride alot of beat up sand tracks….If I were to ride rocky, rooty, tighter technical terrain, I would need a revalve…shock is stock, revalved with bladder kit, forks are 2017 Black Cone Valves that I bought brand new from Billy @ Powerbrand, but FC services them. Great forks, been on every KtM I have owned for 9 years, until I just bought a used set of Red Cones off ..I think Jwack on this site. .. All I do is take out some compression for single track & play with rebound depending on terrain….I was just out riding Rampart Range in Colorado, hardpack, loose granular type dirt with plenty of rocks, suspension was not ideal for those conditions but totally rideable…I plan on racing some FTR events down in Florida this winter, so I will have the suspension serviced and revalved for more of an off road setup, as I have a 27 350SFX just for moto…
