Not really

I can see in one picture - RH rear from above -that the axle block looks to have at least 30/ 35 /mm of unused 'slot', and the rear tyre is quite close to the shock guard, but even then the bike doesn't look short.

The pic with the Asian bloke in the Red T shirt is a bit 'fishbowl -ish ' though. Perhaps that's what you're jugging it by?

It does have low cradle, far lower than a CR, but that appears to be due to the ES. She'd be a real 'belly scraper' in my terrain.

Forks are sitting low in a few pics - about the sag you'd want When You Were On It, not unladen.

Meh, it's a ' show and tell bike ' - could be quite different if it is actually ever sold.

I was going off this picture in particular, but I believe it is the low hanging engine that was making me believe it was short.

Gas tank looks really small, and 500s are thirsty. Forks look saggy. But there’s a market for big bores so maybe it’s worth looking closer?

What size tank do you think is on the bike? Looks 2.0 gallons or so to me, though hard to really tell for sure.

It’s hard to tell, but it’s very narrow between the knees, I’m guessing 1.8-2.0 gallons? That’s 30-35 miles on the KX500s I used to ride.

My old 84 had a 2.5 gallon or so tank, and it wouldn't do a 50 mile cross country.

But that bike is in MX trim correct? So 2.0 would be fine.

When I decide to dip my toe in the chinese motorcycle waters it will definitely be a 500cc two-stroke motocrosser

Needs a power valve, six speed, and fuel/oil injection.

I think in today's market, most of the buyers are 30+, so it is an open class, maybe they are looking at those gents.

Yup, they added 1mm to the bore, to produce a 90mm x 79mm Monster!!!!!!

What About The Children ?- We'll All Be Killed!

They've picked an Engine that I fondly refer to as being barely above BSA Bantam Technology ( that offends many, But I own and  ride a bloody CRE500) and done ' just a a bit ' to it.

It's an interesting thing, as I've written a few times.

There’s some decent stuff coming out of china. A non power valve or counterbalanced 500 two stroke isn’t it.

Yeah, this is a toy at best, certainly not something for anyone who intends to use it competitively. Could be an arm-stretching, laugh-a-minute toy… and it might just vibrate itself to pieces. Still a potential hoot. $3500 would make me look 2-3 times…

There has been a lot of new dirt bike brands coming out from China lately. This is one the most interesting ones. CR500 clone engine fitted to a frame which resembles a last generation RM250. The bike is called "Rocs 500"

I attended the MXGP of Shanghai last year. Saw and heard this bike in person. Met the guys behind it. I can't speak to the quality or ride but the bike looks very well engineered. They are all passionate MX and enduro riders that are simply trying to grow the Chinese off-road market in the right direction.

One of the guys behind ROCS is a multi-time Chinese national MX champ, is an engineer and also did Dakar a few years ago. He also lurks... right here often 👀

I didn't really know what to expect at the MXGP but was pleasantly surprised by the attendance (there were ads all over Shanghai for the race... airports, highway, bus stops, etc.). A good portion of the crowd seemed pretty new to moto, but there was definitely an informed audience too.

Moto is growing pretty rapidly in China, no doubt about it. Might be more of the electric/Sur Ron variety at the moment, but off-road in general is on the rise.

bayodome : " Moto is growing pretty rapidly in China, no doubt about it. Might be more of the electric/Sur Ron variety at the moment, but off-road in general is on the rise."

I've always said, that if Moto / Offroad caught on in China, and / or India , it would make the 1970s Dirt  Bike boom in the USA and elsewhere, look miniscule.

I wonder what sort of gearbox ratios it may have?

I've wanted, as a final modification for my CRE500, a HRC wide ratio gearbox, but, what I can find, is either wildly expensive, or, in the case of Panthera offering a replica set, I'd not trust them to make anything remotely well / trustworthy, after their POS Electric Start.

WTF. Can China actually come up with their own ideas instead of copying elements from every real manufacturer?

You’re not seriously expecting them to reinvent the dirt bike right? Single cylinder, liquid cooled, disk braked, single shocked bikes are the standard. You certainly aren’t expecting them to try to break into this traditionally conservative market by doing a Cannondale right?

I live in China, and I know someone who has partially helped, with engine design and some other stuff, on this bike. I’ve also had the chance to test diff chinese bikes before, 2T. Never had a single one that ran properly from the factory, lots of splooge, and when you do jet them right, the power is horrible, but you know, 2500$ for a proper ktm clone, or 10000-12000$… it will do its job I guess.

About this 500, I do would like to try one, depends on the price. I heard around 30.000+ cny, at which I’m not sure if I will.
It does have an elec start

The numbers given are imo complete bollox. They (tend to) base that on nothing. Only thing I’ve seen was a video of the person who I knew helped build the bike put it on the dyno. What kind of dyno? Literally just a speed dyno. They took it to a dyno purely to check top speed.. as if it was an accomplishment.. without checking HP/torque (speed was 130km/h btw). I asked for hp/torque numbers , they didn’t know.

About any r&d, they either try to 1:1 a foreign bike, or they just slap a random/copied engine into a random frame and try to make it work. There’s 0 air flow tests, air box optimalization, engine angle, blabla, that sorta stuff. I mean I wouldn’t want to say 0, they might have tried to AI some numbers perhaps. But nothing like a Jap. For them, if it works and you can go up a hill with it, it works. So you might want to try to get the 4th or 5th version of this bike to at least have a decent bike.

I highly doubt the crank will be counter balanced, and all the cloned stuff (carb, suspension) tends to… “work” and that’s about it. Expect to buy a JD kit just like the people here buying these clone ktm’s have to do, or put a proper carb on it.

not trying to throw shade, I was more excited than anyone here for this bike. Also, they told me they will make an mx version too!

I am heavily considering buying one, I love 500s and if the price is right, perhaps 2nd hand, I might pick one up. It will be a complete disaster out of the box, that’s for sure though.

As for the market, they get a lot of requests from central/east Asia, such as Russia, Balkan area etc

The same places where clone ktm’s go to

If I ever get my hands on one I’ll try to update. I did mention them I’d be willing to “promote it” if they’d send me one, they didn’t seem to be interested in that, and believe their facebook campaign will do! Suppose it will! Smile

Can’t go into any further detail, because there are none! (What forks, what springs, etc etc) all we get is a few picts and “50kw 72nm torque” lol.
