New Media Rules?

i agree with PIng when he says its a NBC thing, but i can see why they are doing it to,  they pay big money for the rights, why would they want someone with an iphone monetizing what they pay for,

To say Dirt Shark, Buttery films, Burkeen etc. does not advertise the sport is such BS, feld should pay them for their services (or just let them do it), all this midweek extra highlight content is awesome and since we now are used to it, sport will suffer if it disappears.

(Who filmed the original video of Coop entering the truck to ”fight”…?) 🙄

Steve really thinks he is THE moto media guy but needs to see that the liking for him among moto fans is as diverse as the liking for Deegan, 50% ”disliking”… Without Phil, Keefer, occasionally RV, show would suffer bad and i think the sport would do absolutely fine without the pulp content.

I do like and watch/listen to all the Pulp stuff tough and the privateer race is great, but i dont want to miss out on the others, these guys are the privateers of motomedia.

Bondos production from L.A managed to miss most of the actual live race action imo.

Edit: i dont include ”dirtbikelover, mxryan” etc. who creates fake news on FB to these mentioned guys.

Wouldn't be surprised if Feld starts making people put their phones in those Yondr pouches prior to entering the stadiums to prevent people from taking footage/photos of races.

This sport is such an embarrassment.   The new rules are just them grasping at straws as the ship sinks.  They can’t even get a replay of the race up within 4 hours of the event concluding

The more media post, the more eyes on the sport.  The powers to be a re lost in the sauce

I'm guessing these fees will kill a lot of the privateer YouTube vlogs.

Privateers trying to get as much exposure as possible for the guys that help them go racing, nope, we can't have that. 🙄

For the factory teams/riders it's just another expense/write off. Sucks, but they have deeper pockets. IMO, it's still not right.

Can confirm that privateers are the bain of Felds existence,  and a "problem" they wish they could "solve".

Weege just confirmed again that guys like Buttery Films or Matty B will not be affected by this rule change. It’s mostly companies that are sending photographers to take photos to use as advertising for them that aren’t covering the sport/races who will have to pay a fee to shoot the weekend.

They've all lost their trackside/floor access at races. So their content will change in scope.

Secondly, unless we're having a huge misinterpretation of the new guidelines (they're so poorly written), the amount of content they are allowed to post from the races has been heavily reduced.

Unless something changes this week, LA was the last-ever Supercross I'll ever be allowed floor access to work at/shoot.

I have another meeting on Monday with Feld staff to clarify many of the smaller clauses in this thig.

Do you mind elaborating on that? I assume if it is your last, it'll also be the last for a lot of the other media people.

So who WILL be allowed to shoot on the floor then?  VitalMX can't even pay for you to shoot on the floor?  I guess it's to invest in a 600 f/4 to shoot from the stands.

Will Align Media be allowed to shoot from the floor?

Fuck Feld! I'm about to cancel Peacock, and say see ya. I'm a stubborn fucker too. Once I make that decision, they're dead to me. Never get my money again.

Can you share what level you would be classified at if you chose to pay? 1000/min broadcast/editorial/digital/social, 250/min non broadcast, 2500+(!!!! WTF is plus !!!!) commercial use?  Or is it really the content limitations you cited?

While I respect the right of any series owner to own the rights, this seems like an overcorrection. Sorry that you are affected.

Weege is increasingly becoming a complete corporate shill.

He’s always trying to spin everything Feld does in a positive light and how every change is for the better.

He also does this while belittling the fans’ intelligence, something along the lines of “you guys at home just wouldn’t understand” or “here’s what EVERYONE gets wrong” is now said almost every Weege show.

Again, he’s completely leaving out the fact that we will no longer get Matt Burkeen’s raw race footage because that requires you to be on the FLOOR.

This is a complete disgrace because that is 100% the most unique and interesting footage we consume in between races.

Especially because the camera increasingly uses a split cam or drone shot, Burkeens footage is the only chance we get to observe and admire the riders’ technique up close.

It’s a damn shame what Feld is doing.

Michael, Have Feld said specifically why this is happening? And I'd like to see you reach out to the riders, race teams and aftermarket companies to see how they feel about it. I doubt the media guys and gals can sway Feld by themselves but if Team Honda looses a big chunk of next year's racing budget to the Power Products division because they won't be reaching their moto enthusiast viewership metrics (the ones who buy their bikes!), they may want a sit-down with the Feld crew.

This was posted a week ago. This is the only place i've seen the actual numbers. In the Pulp podcast i believe they mentioned the rules sent out from Feld were to be confidential so that's probably why we haven't seen much.

Photo/Video guys shooting commercially - $500 per event, per client is crazy high IMO.

$1,000 per minute for social/digital use.

Blackout windows for posting content during the event broadcast

The bottom line is if the new rules/fees were even remotely reasonable they wouldn't be trying to hide them from the public under this veil of secrecy, the only reason they're doing it is because they know fans will tear them a new one.  You don't usually have to hide it if you're doing something positive or beneficial. . .

We sponsor a lot of teams and riders (about 70 total pro riders this year). That's a significant investment - about 150 sets of triple clamps and bar mounts, which has a retail value of over $170k. The teams and riders go racing, and they give us access to a shared folder if images from the races that we can use to promote our product, the team, etc.

But with these changes, the teams will now have to pay $500 per race, per sponsor, per photographer(!), to give this same access. That's $15,500 each sponsor per photographer for the whole series. For a team like Club MX, they've got at least 40 total sponsors, and at least two photographers. That adds up to more than $1.24 MILLION to provide photos for the year.

I just don't see that being even remotely feasible. Or the teams are going to have to charge us for it. And we can't afford $15k for photos on top of all the other expenses it takes to get product to the teams. So things will have to change. Fewer sponsored teams, etc. And this is across the board for all companies, not just us!

On one hand, I can understand Feld wanting some money for us to promote our product using images from their series. However, on the other hand, us promoting our product with those images is also promoting the series. So we are adding value to the series at the same time. Could you imagine if all the race photos in advertisements just disappeared from all the magazines, forums, social, etc.? That wouldn't be good for the series...

They talked about this on the Pulp show this week, and John Anderson (Dubya) gives some similar insight about it too:

I doubt the media guys and gals can sway Feld by themselves but if Team Honda looses a big chunk of next year's racing budget to the Power Products division because they won't be reaching their moto enthusiast viewership metrics (the ones who buy their bikes!), they may want a sit-down with the Feld crew.

I've spoken to a ton of teams, riders, team managers, agents, other media guys, etc...

No one I've spoken to is happy with the situation or how Feld has communicated it, etc.

I have another meeting next week with them. I will hold my full thoughts until I really wrap my head around all of this. Right now, there's some stuff I'm understanding of and not fully against. There are other things, however, I am a bit baffled at.
