Nothing says doesn't know how to ride a 450 like being third in the standings behind the two fastest riders in the world, and ahead of a 4x World Champion. What does that say about all the riders he is beating, every single one who has been riding a 450 for several years?

lol exactly if the brothers weren't around.  he'd have multiple wins, and be on his way to winning his rookie season 450 mx title with a sizeable gap over jorge.  Does he need to adjust his riding style to be more efficient yes, does he need to develop the bike set up more, also yes.  two things can be true at once.  but vital HATES deegan more then anything.  according to them his bike is just an excuse, his team is perfect, the lawrences are perfect, everyone else that he's beat is still better then him, but also it doesnt count as an accomplishment that he's beating them because they suck and the field is weak.  The rookie who has multiple podiums, doesnt know how to ride because the two best riders in the world with multiple years in the class are beating him.  duh. he should just retire and do youtube with jake paul according to them.  also his dad gets botox?  i guess that also has to do with his riding or something.

Did anyone with eyeballs actually think 38 was going to step up to the 450s and start winning? Have they not been watching total domination by Honda? While the 38 may have wins in the future, Honda being so dominant over the experienced field should have been a clue as to how 38's 450 career would start. It's a work in process, if it's the bike, they'll fix it, if it's his style, they'll fix it. It's not just a jump on and things are the same.

It seemed to work perfectly fine for Eli Tomac for plenty of years.

Eli rode with the clutch also. Deegan doesn’t

Right, and they are clearly faster while beating him in the standings.

As far as Deegan, it's both a dig and a complement but he rides it so ham fisted.  It sure shows how he's in great shape to ride a 450 how he is but to say the bike needs to improve and then he'll beat these other guys is laughable.

RC beat MC with his fitness, just like Eli did against his competitors. But when you get a competitor that is equally fit but ride the bike better, what are you gonna do then?…

Funny that you could probably compare RC's style closer to Deegan and Reed's to the Lawrence bros. It's a different world out there now.

I wasn't into the sport until late 2021/watched sx for the first time in 2022, and even if I was into the sport when I was a kid and my dad had his enduro bike back then. I would've been too young, maybe not even born yet, to remember Ricky vs James vs Chad. I will say its awesome watching some clips of their battles though. All that said, I can't say much about Ricky vs James vs Chad and their setups, etc., because I was a kid at the time and not into the sport yet.

I did not think he would start winning, but I thought he'd be really good for being new to the class at Fox Raceway. Thinking back, that was dumb of me to think. But I am glad he's on or around the podium in his first year in the class, most likely due to lots of top guys being out, but still, to often be the 3rd fastest guy in this series in his first year is incredible. And no, he is not on the same level of Jett his rookie year.

In fairness, Jett did not have to race against Jett or Hunter. So if you pull those guys off the chess board, 38's results are pretty damn good.

You could argue that a current yamaha has never ridden at the speeds needed to win over the Honda bike right now . He' kind of the guine pig for coming up with a set up .  Do you think he's afraid to ride their speed or he just isn't capable?

Very true, you have a great point, he's beating everyone besides Jorge that Jett has beat his rookie year, maybe that applies to hunter's rookie year as well.

TM stop it, you are trying to use logic on a message board when the media and broadcast has shoved the narrative down everyone’s throat since the anticipation of leading up to his rookie season.

Not sure how you can be expecting to dial in a bike to how you like to ride and the feel you want when you are literally re learning how to ride with a different technique. Someone please explain how you wouldn’t be just chasing your tail? Surely learning to ride with a new technique means you get that feeling natural first and then find the settings that maximizes the way you ride and find performance ? In any case Deegan is fucked either way.

The cope with Deegan fans never runs out, not to mention the cognitive dissonance that the bike had nothing to do with his 250 success but he's losing on a 450 because of the bike. (Not directed at the op)

The perception of bikes has so much to do with who's riding them. When HRC was Sexton and Roczen people thought the Honda sucked and was too unstable, then all of a sudden Jett gets on it and it's the best bike in the field despite nothing changing.

The Yamaha was the best bike in the field not too long ago, but because Deegan can't win on it it seems like people think the Suzuki is better because Roczen won on it.

Also everyone seems to think HRC has a massive advantage on the start over everyone but Deegan and Webb have had massively improved starts this year on their bikes.

Addressing the subject matter of the op, other people in the thread have already mentioned it but it's pretty obvious his bike doesn't handle as well because he's slamming it into things and riding too high in the rev range.

You don't alter your riding style to  match bike and suspension setup.  You set the bike and suspension to match your riding style.  Deegan needs to become a better development rider and probably needs to communicate better with his mechanic.  Deegan said in the post race press conference that they are working on the bike and it is obvious much more work and dialing in needs to be done.  I think if his 450 had been dialed in better before the start of real motocross, (during the ridiculously short break between SX & MX), Deegan probably would have won some nationals already by this point.

Deegan has gotten podiums too, neither tomac or jcoop were going fast enough on the yamaha to podium against the brothers this year.

Hunter has talked about it before. here is a short clip: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/aOln1asxhLM

I think its relevant to note too that 2025 Hunter on a 450 is not even comparable to this 2026 version so I think there is a lot of room for Haiden to grow and figure it out.

But, you know, Jett is likely the best to ever do it so there is also that up hill battle.

Did anyone else notice how much more deegan was riding the rear wheel ? He's definitely searching for something .

If his bike had been dialed in before the season, Deegz would have probably won some Nationals by this point? Nationals, plural? Ah.....no. He hasn't led a lap, not even one. He finally holeshot the first moto Sat and Hunter was around him before they even completed the first lap. I'm sure his bike could be set up better. First moto, fresh with the track still in good shape, he couldn't sprint away for 5-10min? He's not as talented as the Lawrence's,  period. He's obviously going to improve as his career goes on. His ceiling will never be as high as Jett's. He's been a solid rookie. Where's the flashes of brilliance? He's better at mx, too. In Sx, he's gonna have to deal with Roczen, Sexton, Webb. Healthy JCoop beats him indoors
