with all due respect and I appreciate the creativity, but he got passed in SECTOR 1.. thats not even half. Maybe a quarter of the track. How is that a leading lap?

Me too, really sucks how his and tomacs years have been. Really thinned out the top of the 450 class. Would have been nice to have 6 guys up front vs 4.

They need to work on bike setup, not giving him more power, his bike setup looked terrible today, yeah his riding style could be a factor, but the bike setup isn’t doing much to help him either.

They need to work on bike setup, not giving him more power, his bike setup looked terrible today, yeah his riding style could be a factor, but the bike setup isn’t doing much to help him either.

The setup is looking bad because of him. Take a look at Justin Coopers bike that’s being ridden in lower RPM’s in a correct way.

There is multiple things that makes Haidens bike look bad:

1: His constant over reving. Bouncing off the limiter aggravates the hell out of your suspension.

2: His ”sending it” when he tries to go fast. All that hard scrubing, whipping and over jumping things also upsets the bike and in a non substainable way.

3: He charges to hard and is to heavy on the bike going in to the corners. He often brings to much speed going in causing him to stand the bike up mid corner because the momentum of the bike will force the bike to stand up.

All the things that I have mentioned above takes a REALLY stiff suspension to work, the problem is that a suspension that stiff will wear you down really quickly and is a nightmare to race on.

It probably works fine at a perfectly groomed test track that is deep and loamy. But on a dried out race track it’s not.

Looking at Haidens riding he rides ”better” when he is tired later in the moto and don’t have the energy to spend being overly aggressive. But on the other hand, when he is tired he don’t have the energy left to go fast if you understand what I mean.

If you could take tired Haidens riding style and set that as his default riding when he is fresh and then set the bike up around that, then you would see better results.

Comparing him to the benchmark brothers, they are trying to use as soft suspension as they possible can to get as much comfort and plushness out of the bike. And they try to ride as smooth as possible to make that kind of setup to work.

When I look at Deegan I just see the opposite. He tries to ride as hard as he can, wants all the power in the world and goes for a stiff suspension to work with how he rides when he is fresh and that’s not working.

I don’t know if you are familiar with the Norwegian rider Kenneth Gundersen but he rode in the world championship in the early 2000’s and was a factory Kawasaki rider. Later Zach Osbourne moved in with Kenneth when Zacho rode the GP’s and had him as his trainer.

When Kenneth was young his dad made him run to the track while his dad drove the car there. When Kenneth arrived at the track he was tired from running and was forced to ride the bike with perfect flawless technique because he had no energy left to do something wrong.

That gave Kenneth a Stefan Everts-ish kind of riding style.

There is no denying that the Deegans put in the work, and now working with Greg Moss is clearly their next step to trying to bridge the gap to the best riders in the world. But it’s not easy to make that kind of drastic changes when you are in your 20’s. Haidens way of riding has been formed through his whole life, just like Barcias and Tomac’s, and it’s rare to see a rider like that make a change that big with their riding in so late of age.

So yes, his bike setup does not look great, but it will never be great until he allows the bike to act great,

Yeah it's stupid but that's how they count it. Just like deegan being -3 on the hard charger thing at Washougal first moto after coming from last just because he passed the holeshot line first

Yeah 100% he has not lead a lap, he lead for a few corners on the opening lap, leading a lap is being the guy in front for an entire lap.

They need to Watch the interview where barcia says he knows his riding style is what’s s holding him back but he can’t change it. It’s just natural

Crusty_xx is correct. Those “laps lead” stats come from whoever crossed the finish line first in the group each lap. Most of the time it is a legit way to keep track of it, but lap one at Unadilla doesn’t make sense because you’re right…it is a very short run from the start to the finish line. Nowhere near a lap but that is how all of their readers are programmed and it’s not worth the trouble to them to try to reprogram everything for this one race.

Without a doubt, Mark Fineis gave the most awkward post race interview in history after that second moto.

You gotta love this kid! Lol that was so cringe but so lovable.

Unlike deegan I actually like kitchen. I just feel like if he got handed the championship that rewards bad habits and doesnt help him going fwd the way having to go and take it would. He has some bad habits that he can unlearn if he can go out and take this championship vs just being handed it. Going fwd if he wins this its because he can perform under pressure at the end of the season and step up and take it when its there. Hes never shown he is capable of doing that so this bad start puts him in a dog fight vs davies where if he comes out the other side the champ that will be much more growth than just backing into it which will prepare him much more for when he moves up to 450s.

As many riders as Kitchen has had to pass, and as many times as he's had to come from behind to get the points he has, I'd say no one is handing Levi anything

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Tomac? I thought the first moto result was good all things considered, second moto was underwhelming but his start was terrible and he’s never been good at Unadilla in the first place. The most telling thing to me though was just how sketchy he looked trying to run the front guys pace early in the first moto, that wouldn’t have been sustainable at all I don’t think.

I think he's done. He's done sending at the Lawrence's pace and I think he knows it. Just my opin........

I think he’s done with outdoors and just riding it out and minimizing risks.  I think he’s all in on SX and will work with focus to try to be at race winner speed with hopes of a legit title shot.

It’s not the bike.

Reed says it is.

Reed says it is.

deegonites grasping at anything to change the narrative of he’s just not as fast,  If they have a horrible bike setup at this point it’s deegan’s fault.  Brian would demand and get anything they wanted from one of the best bikes to build off of from a team willing to do/try anything.  Next week they, bed bugs, will blame the Middle East for all I know.  He’s just plain 30 seconds slower then the fastest 2 motocross riders on earth in a 30+2 moto.  Not sure how big of a sample size you need to admit that….but… third behind them?… Not too shabby….but the making gains followed by the excuses(bike this week) is just plain pathetic at this point.

Wasn't around Viatal this weekend and haven't read the thread so apologies if it came up...

I thought Deegans bike looked terrible, and his riding is still all rev limiter.

Let’s see if Deegan goes the way of Sexton- constantly blaming the bike set up for not being able to unlock their full potential when in reality the Lawrence bros are just better and faster. There is no magical bike set up and no real ceiling to unlock because that is their ceiling. Time will tell.

It's definitely happening and I've noticed it but yet guys who post nothing but attacks on fellow members, create multiple usernames and do nothing but troll and hate are continuously allowed to ruin almost every thread they post in...they have ruined the Raceday thread to the point I don't even read or post in them anymore...it's gotten way out of hand.
