How old are Vital members

That’s a Crooked Horrible thing he did to everybody . I heard a lot of people r looking for him .  And that the guy who bought the land . His financing fell through to build a house on it & it’s for sale  for 700k.  Rick pissed everyone off like his guy to work the track , he quit . Track only was worked for his non ama races anyway.  Square holes & rocks everywhere . My front wheel is all dents inward from there. Places  Now deep sand private tracks up north Dyracuse sx track was dry & dangerous.  Under the deep dry sand those hard sharp peaks hiding  , will literally kill ya. Track  guy there said teus to Thur they ave 12 riders a day. & if it keeps up they’ll only open fri to sun.  I was paying 200 for an annual membership at Denmark . Last yr to shut him up I agreed to a life time for 300.  And what he charged 1k ovr the winter ?  Aztalan membership or find a track in the Midwest that has practice & move there. 

Living thru those age bands, like we all have if you are of a certain age, it is interesting to reflect on.

For me I was 100%+ into motocross starting in junior high. This was the age of DeCoster, the up and coming Brad Lackey, Heikki Mikkola, Indian Dunes, Carlsbad, CZs, Maico, Bultaco, etc. I missed Joel Robert by about a year... 

How many of you rode your custom fabricated BMX bike (because they really did not exist yet - you had to strip down that Schwinn Sting Ray you had) down to the local dealer on Thursday to get the Cycle News? Iron Horse Cycle in Paradise, CA was my spot. 

Then life kicks in: Off to college for many of us. Perhaps you went the military route. Next was to start the career grind, for me that was the emerging software industry. Then marriage, divorce for some, kids for others, etc. Here motocross disappeared, at least for me. 

Motocross reemerged for me when I hit 50 or so. Wife at the time totally supported me getting back into moto (got me out of the house for hours 😉). I picked up my cameras again and dabbled as a part-time 'moto photo hound' Hitting some Nationals and meeting cool people like FTE, Kardy, GuyB, Paul Buckley, DC and more. 

Then volunteered at a somewhat successful SX / MX charity for a time.

Now I just follow the sport and watch the racing.

What's your "Moto life timeline" ? 

63 yrs old now and through 40+ bikes (including 2 street bikes). Down to one bike now. 2025 Honda CRF 250. Brilliant bike, easy to ride. off 450's forever but that new Honda 450, while very inviting...I need to remember why I got off 450's at this age-they are too much bike no matter how good they are! I'm back to riding the bike instead of the bike riding me. I still follow the sport the same way I did when I started racing in 1975 in the big wheel schoolboy class on a Suzuki TM100. 

No comment for the poll. 🤐 But this guy, and his pal, Diamond Don Rainey, are both 82 and still lining up for gate drops at vintage events all over the country.

32 but never spent much time on a mx track till I was in my 30s

Damn! Don Rainey is 82? Makes me feel like a kid (I'm 67). I was racing around the Houston, TX area back in the mid-late 70's and "Diamond" Don was racing for the H&H Music race team. I wasn't in his class (Open Expert) back then, but got to meet him a few times. Cool guy, and I wish I could have attended one of his vintage events over the years. 

Old enough that the last one in our group besides me took the last gate drop in may. 
For the first time since I swung a leg over my Indian  papoose I just don’t have the heart to go anymore. Fuck cancer. 

55 now but I been around this site (whatever the name was at various times) and group of people since 2005.  So I started it in the 31-40 age group and blossomed. Lol

That’s cool , I bet they hv some stories. Maybe Vietnam Vets & maybe truckers.  I met a few in the last 4 yrs,  there in great shape & cognitive very sharp guys.and  hv a 70,s mx bike.  

Old enough that riding without a kidney belt feels wrong. 

I just turned eleventeen.

First race was aboard a shop prepped AT1 125 that I purchased from Renton Yamaha (Seattle area) in 1969 for $450.00.  21" front wheel, GYT Kit and Straight cut gears. Next trip around the sun in 75. The addiction is strong! My current bikes (that I prefer) are a YZ 155 and for offroad a YZ144. There is others in the garage that are 4T

I had a 73 AT1 for awhile until the 74 Elsinore arrived.

That AT1 was a pile.

A lot of great comments and stories from the “Not much Left” crowd, I am in that group also. So, for you young guys, I just retired from flying Apache Helicopters after 33 years and can get back to riding my vintage motocross bikes. Age is a number and always do what you enjoy. The memories from the old are the best, it’s not reliving the past but still going strong with what you love.

How far are you from DFW?

I’m at FlightSafety till the 23rd training. It’s a busy schedule, but maybe we can go eat sometime. 

About 30 minutes from home, or 15 from work.

I'll holler next week and we can compare schedules. 

56 but very immature for my age

42 here. I'm surprised the 41-50 is the smaller demographic here? Thought we had more money and time in our forties then our thirties? My friends are slowly losing interest, but I still feel young and hope to ride till I can't any more.

Less time and less money for me. One kid just started college. The other starts highschool plus college classes. Started a side business so I could have some play money but it burns up all my time 🤷🏻‍♂️

I can't complain though, setting my kids up to be better off financially than I ever was

38 here.

25 years pushing a wheelchair & feeling every bit of it lol. Fucking shoulders are done. 

Crazy thing...I broke 6 vertebra in my back w/3 major surgeries but my back hardly ever hurts. It's my damn shoulders from pushing the chair, lifting myself in/out of bed/shower/car/toilet/etc. that kills me.  And before anyone suggests...NO I'm not getting a fking powered chair. The day I'm too old to push/lift myself is when I'm checking out.

Turning 22 next month.

My history in point form .....

1974 started racing a Suz TM125.
1983 testing / journalyst for Australian dirtbike magazine.
1985 start racing Pro road superbikes.
2010 switched to vintage motocross
2020 had my first kid at 60.
2026 have my own 'gentle' mx track in my 20 acre back yard.

I'm so old 54 years ago I thought my converted (removing lights, battery, blinkers, fenders, airbox and stock exhaust) CT1-175 into a MX machine was the Bomb! 😂

It's still going on.  AHRMA national next month. It's always EPIC. Woodstock for dirt bikers. And the Dual Sport ride is a lot of fun as well. I should be at both.
