I've the impression that all the big new stadiums keep the "dirt" out, bit similar to the European stadiums who have often the same policy.
I know they have one in concord nc for smx but without atl, panthers stadium in Charlotte would be great. Its right in the middle of a huge area with no pro level mx or sx racing and dont have to deal with the dumb ass concrete barriers at the drag strip.
Yep, only new stadiums SX has gotten into are the soccer stadiums like San Diego and Birmingham. Newest dome I can think of that we've been in is Dallas and that opened in 2009.
Is it that the new stadiums don't want dirt in them or is the increased cost of renting those new fancy stadiums also a contributing factor?
I believe there was a race or two in Atlanta's new Mercedes Benz stadium so it definitely doable there, but it seems like the chatter was that the rental cost was too high.
For sure it would, but I don't think it will happen based off the trend of the newer stadiums not hosting SX. I would be fine with a Baltimore round though, that would be cool too!
Atlanta set attendance records regularly enough they ran two weekends back to back several years back. Birmingham is not the same.
I've thought sure they would utilize Atlanta Motor Speedway as an awesome play-off round location.
Anyone know why cities like St. Louis, Cleveland, and Nashville get a SX round. But the 3rd biggest city in the U.S. (Chicago) never does?

I remember that there used to be double headers at some venues but it was two consecutive days. I don’t remember if it was Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday, though.
Kansas City was talked about but never happened.
Baseball stadiums are out because of weather not being good enough early in SX season, and neither of them are in neighborhood that world work well anyway. Soldier field would be nightmare for all the rigs and equipment, if it's even possible. Can't imagine how far out they'd have to go for dirt. Would have to use McCormick place for pits and it's too far away. Soccer stadium is too small and area sucks. Northwestern's new stadium looks awesome but never going to happen and no place for pits. Speedway tracks seem to be out and Chicago's isn't all that close to Chicago to begin with. So ultimately despite the size of the city I just don't think Chicago is a real option.

Chicago is great. Terrible take.
Visiting the windy city in the middle of the winter seems hard and I don't think that Chicago has a dome that can be used for SX.

Chicago is the best Big city in the US. Miles better than NYC and LA.

its all about timing and venue availability, the first part of the schedule is their bread and butter, the California rounds, Arizona, Dallas, and Daytona, those dates are almost the same every year, and those are probably their biggest crowds. The schedule will also end in the mountain west, Denver and Salt Lake, those venues do very well at that time of year as well. So they only have a few dates in March, April, and early May that they rotate venues in and out every year.
Big IF but if they have a round at Baltimore with the DC / Baltimore / Philadelphia population it should be sold out
They've used US Bank Stadium in Minnesota, and I think that opened in 2016.
