All the time, this week they’ll be finding the nastiest sand tracks for the upcoming Lommel GP.
Yeah thats true! I remember Muddy creek in the 90's when i was still in C class. EARLY practice!! Deep , wet and muddy!! Then by the afternoon 2nd moto the ruts were canyons and hard as a rock!
I rode down at CGI facility in SC 3 years ago. Drove 3 hours early on a Sunday morning. When i arrived it had rain nearly 2 inches over night!! They dumped a mountain of sawdust and ran over it with a dozer. It looked pretty decent when we started practice. Soon as i hit that sawdust my bike almost stopped!! lol. Horrible as hell and i dont know how people ride in that shit at all.
Ryno is the Kanye west of motocross, and I love it
Nowhere close.
MC won the premier national MX championship in 1995. The Outdoor Warrior has only won one solitary overall - which is where he also won his two motos.

Yes, I thought of him but even he won more outdoors 450 races. Plus he only won one 450 SX championship.
The Outdoor Warrior literally has more 450 SX championships than he does 450 mx moto wins...
250 MX Champion - 1995.
The partying involved a lot of food...and food...
Turning every track surface into the same soil mix nationwide hasn't helped our guys at all. When there is little to no traction available every rider calls the track sketchy. Well, yeah, that's natures way of telling you to ride differently, set up your bike differently, and for the promoters to design any man made obstacles differently. If you can find traction on hard pack, you can find it anywhere. Same thing goes for sand. You have to learn to carry momentum and change your ride position. The Euros practice in all of these conditions. We used to but now we all go to a homogenized practice facility or track and bitch if it isn't perfect every day.
Ryno may be whack, but he's spot on with this take.
Hughes sure has an ego for a guy that never won a championship and his mouth could use some soap.🤦♂️
Tracks prepped the same and to much SX!!!
I think our talent level is lower overall because the kids who are rising to the top of the amateur ranks live at training facilities. They are not as talented but riding that much will make you fast as shit. Chad reeds son will be a great example of this if he starts winning at all.
Also I was watching deegans vlog and the track is just way too fast and smooth. It would benefit them to train at a track like lommel.
There’s also a lack of confidence and race craft in a lot of these kids. For instance Ryder d is insanely talented but he rides timid. His talent alone is why he is still even doing well and will probably start winning at some point.
He's right, but everything is aimed at SX now. Loretta's is all about mini bikes now, and the track fits minis's; SMX Next is the testing pool for talent now after supermini's.
Americans don't care about moto as much. 35-40% of the year at max. The rest is sx, SMX, and off season races.
This week in MOTO: Man who used to race at a high level says the most obvious shit ever and people praise his expertise. Back to you, Linda.
No, but riding SX suspension / gearing etc most of the year is. Completely different setups. Helping did an interview stating this same fact, and a reason he didn’t start SX as it was a huge change riding a completely different bike.
The AMA guys ride 8 months of the year on super stiff suspension trying to be smooth, and bike set up for Supercross. Then have a few weeks to test for MX. GP guys should be faster than the AMA guys. I remember an interview with Herlings a few years ago with him saying this exact same thing. He exact words is they are completely 2 different sports.
this is why also you see top GP guys come over and if they even make it through the SX season unhurt, they are not at the same speed outdoors just the fact they have been riding a completely different bike and SX tracks the past 8 months.
Look at Prado. Say he came straight into the MX series skipping SX (forget the Kawasaki issues) on the same KTM he would have been much closer to the front I believe. But riders settle in.
times have changed. in the 80’s and early 90s Supercross helped with riding style and technique that helped the US have an advantage over the Europeans, now everyone has adapted that style and technique .
If the Coenans are smart the would skip SX in 2027, and focus on the nationals. If they make it though SX unscathed, they will lose some of their MX speed. It’s just natural, if you spend 3/4 if the year riding a certain discipline/ bike setup, you will lose a little bit with the other 1/4 of riding.
Pit Row
Looks like Rex Plessinger!
Ryan is right here. Both top riders lose their edge when they ride the other series. I don't think Vialle is the same in AMA as he is in the GPs. You could really see that at the last MXDN at Ernee when suddenly all the people that followed GPs were like "Ah, now that's the real Vialle" etc. The same is true when AMA based (or AMA developed) riders ride the MXDN or the few that might try a GP, rare as hens teeth though that now is.
The difference is that the leap is (putting Supercross aside) easier for the GP guys despite losing an edge, than vice versa for the AMA guys.
That's really the change from where things were in the 90s/00s. Jorge isn't going to be quite as good at the average AMA rd, but on the flipside Haiden SURE as hell isn't going to be as good at the average GP...
To be fair the AMA guys just race too much. Too much SX and too much BS with this off season play-off crap. Herling's etc riding a British and Dutch championship round isn't the same. He can do it or not do it - the pressure isn't on the same level.
It's also why the AMA based guys are increasingly dragging their heels when the MXDN rolls around... People need to rest. Even the teams.
Your language is harsh and your photo is awful. But you might be correct. All SX will hear about how mentally tough he is and how much of a grinder he is. Then outdoors comes around he won’t hang it out so he quit years ago. All the other top guys get judged on SX and MX. Jett won’t come out and get 9th and will be like let’s wait till SX! But Webb has gotten a pass for years. While no other guy gets it. At least in MX preview shows they were starting to bring this up when talking about Webb’s legacy.
80s supercross tracks were nothing short of treacherous, which kind of unintentionally mimicked the outdoors but without the flow of an outdoor track.
Any modern pro SX racer can instantly clear almost any modern rythm section without any fear or guesswork. The gaps are spaced the same and the riders trust those gaps will be the same facility to facility. And now they've removed long whoop lanes, which required a little more skill to navigate quickly
It's it's own sport and Americans are very good at it.
I just wish we cared about motocross and wanted to best the world at the MXdN again. Our top 450 rider won't even be there this year.
Compared to his SX results, not stellar.
Hey Wolf Boy why don't you post a pic of your belly?
I’d say Ryno is spot on.
Can someone clarify if local amateur racing was ever longer than 4 lap motos? The week to week races I've been around for the last 20 years are always 4 lap motos...
Always 4-5 lap motos going back to the 90s around here. Sometimes the A riders would get a longer race, but everyone else 4-5 laps tops and squids usually only got 3-4 laps out of that
Talked to a local track owner before his place closed. Asked about why it is t ripped deeper to actually get ruts, breaking bumps and overall rough in general. His answer? “If I do that my loyal guys will stop coming because they don’t want to ride that stuff.”
So yes, Ryno is on to something
And........For many years(early 80s up to probably late 90s)Americans were generally the undisputed fastest MXers on the planet.Even later guys like Everts & Herlings remained quiet or very very careful never boasting or calling anyone over here out. Most of our media sources implied or out right reported that the rest of the world was not at US MX levels.I know I believed it but every once in a while someone would surprise but we would come up with some reason why it was just a one off weirdo performance. There's no better motivation (and to be always ride with a chip on your shoulder)for the rest of the world.I think that was EXACTLY what the US was doing to be the best on the planet in the early eighties. I think when MXGP and the nationals are isolated from each other the MXGP guys probably have the underdog mentality in their thoughts and always pushing a little harder to step up their game(in the MX case anyways).I also think supercross has become the focus for the US and MX has become 2nd here.Just spitballin one guys probably irrelevant opinions, but that's why we're here,I think?(or just bored with too much time on my hands lately is more like it)
The US is falling behind on lots of things, moto is the least of the issues. Just sayin
Post a reply to: Ryno: Americans are less skilled at motocross because our tracks are pampered and we don't ride when its wet
